I appreciate that there is not a distracting overlay of music while in flight and during communications. Following along with transcripts is helpful as well. Which version of Foreflight do you use?

Hi Steve very informative and easy to follow. This $12K unit is an add on to an existing flight simulator. Since I don't have one and am beginning the SR20 Cirrus G6 PPL training I am considering going all in. The complete set up is $30K. As a hefty investment this is, is it worth spending the money or just putting it into lessons.
@TheRenBaron3 ай бұрын
The Cirrus Cockpit I'm using here is a standalone setup but does not include the Pc ($2.5K to $3K), Monitor ($1K) and USB controllers ($300). If you are really serious about flying a Cirrus this Cirrus Cockpit is a great tool. Having taking flight lessons myself I can tell you that using the simulator to practice what you've learned will make you a much better Cirrus pilot. I don't think you need to spend $30K to do that.

One other thing didn’t see all three passes, before turning off base to final, take a look along the outside shoulder. Be in that habit. Clear the outside before going belly up to it.
@jimallen81865 ай бұрын
Instead of CAPS available and above immediate altitudes calculated relative to field elevation, try getting in the habit of using GAGL. Terrain below you typically doesn’t match field elevation. And it is easier as you’ll never need to calculate numbers. They’ll always be 600 and 2k.
@jimallen81865 ай бұрын
Noticed you hold your power lever gripping the top of the T. This is good for large power movements like takeoff, and waveoff/go around/rejected landing, and missed approach. For a better sense of power control such as that for on downwind through landing or on instrument approach, rather than grabbing the whole of the T, try using just your thumb and index plus middle fingers to hold the outside of the T. This way you can run your little two fingers down alongside the center column and have a reference that is stationary relative to the airplane hence feel how much you are moving power. Alternately, you could grab the shaft instead of the top of the T doing something similar. For small power movements, you want to be able to feel how much you have moved the lever. And remember power changes will always require counter-corrections.
@jimallen81865 ай бұрын
Notice how Chuck grabs the power T from underneath when doing smaller movements? He probably is making contact between his hand and the top of the panel to achieve this same idea of a stationary power reference point so as to know how much he is moving the lever.

The instructor said he wouldn’t go into a lengthy discussion as the experience would prove demonstrative. For those merely passively experiencing by watching the video, you can search Medium for AOA and Power Techniques plus the correlating F-35C Crash into the South China Sea for an in-depth discussion.

Trim to on-speed 3 o’clock AOA and power for glide path - Thank You!
@jimallen81865 ай бұрын
Not that you would do this so as to preserve contingency energy, but you could configure and trim to 3 o’clock in downwind and then use power into the turns to manage altitude throughout the whole back half of the pattern; this is what navy jets do and I’ve done it in Cirrus too. (For demonstration purposes in Cirrus, see AOA only on-speed throughout pattern a couple times, then transition to a “compromise” pattern speeds till on base preserving contingency energy, AOA turn to and through final.)
@jimallen81865 ай бұрын
Interesting thought experiment: why is it only Flight Into Known Icing SR22s have AOA? The answer is a system of systems or systems engineering answer. With FIKI, they were already opening up the leading edge of the wing thus providing opportunity to change it while with a TKS based FIKI system, they also discovered need as the fluid could plug the older design stall warning suction hole.

Hi Steve! What a great video about the OshKosh SimVenture. I really enjoyed all the detail you went into showing the whole experience. By the way, I thought you did an awesome flying job. Your previous Cirrus ownership really showed up in your pilot skills. I have a couple of questions if you would be kind enough to respond back. I also use X-Plane 12 in my home made sim. The Cirrus that comes with XP 12 doesn’t have all the features that yours does. Are you using a third party plane and if so would you mind sharing which one? I’m trying to make my sim experience as “real world” as possible. How did you get the ForeFlight app to show up in the inset screen? That was really cool and very helpful. Again, great video and thanks for your help! John
@TheRenBaron5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words John. The Cirrus SR22 flight model I use is made by Torquesim Aviation (torquesim.com/sr22/) and I think its the best, most realistic model out there by far. Regarding the Foreflight app, I use Foreflight on my Ipad mini just like I would in my old SR22T and link it to X-Plane 12. Once its linked it uses the info generated from the TS flight model to track the plane just like it would in the real world. As for displaying in the video, I use to do it with a NDI plugin made my Newtek. For some reason when I upgraded to X-Plane 12 it became non operational so I used another plugin from a 3 party vendor www.apowersoft.com/.
@johnfralc95515 ай бұрын
Thanks Steve, that was a fast response! I have a couple of followup questions if you have time. Do you find that the TS flight model replicates the same (or close) flight characteristics as the real SR22T? That is important to me as I used to fly real world a few decades ago. I assume that the TS flight model and XP 12.1 play nice together? Did you notice any hit on FPS using the TS model plugin. I am using a triple monitor setup with a Mac Studio with the M1 chip. After installing the new XP 12.1 RC2 my FPS went from 35 to 25 so I don’t have alot of wiggle room left. Is the tail number customizable on the TS model? Finally, I went to the apowersoft link you provided (thank you!) and they have lots of products for editing. Would you mind sharing specifically which one you are using? Thank you for your help, you are very kind and it is much appreciated. John
@TheRenBaron5 ай бұрын
@@johnfralc9551 They play together very nicely...if only us humans could play together as nicely the world would be a better place. The flight characteristics and engine numbers are almost spot on to my old G6. I believe the Apowersoft Mirror is the product...I use a PC for the sim and a Mac for everything and the PC is not booted up. Regarding frame rates I recently purchased a new high powered PC to replace the one I had previously (which was great at the time) using Nvidia 4070 video board which gets me all the frames I need. If you are close to tapping out now on frames it might be time to bite the bullet and get a faster chip.

Enjoyed it Ren thanks for posting! I don't know if is XP11 (version I'm running) or if I am doing something wrong with my TorqueSim Cirrus but sometimes when I do an approach and the FMS gets to the FAF I get a full scale deflection to the right and the AP makes the plane turn hard right for about 5 seconds. Then it centers again and I can continue the approach. Obviously this doesn't happen in real life so I don't worry about it too much. Watching your approach it seemed to work flawlessly so I must be doing something wrong. -Shane
