Its funny cuz I was attending the meeting and it was capturing sounds from teams fine but when i was speaking it is not recorded. I was using headphones and mic , but they I took them off and used mic from the computer and the sound was via computer as well. What would make sense to record meetings that would capture my attendance but also to cover what i I say from time to time?

You’re welcome! Glad you know how to record your Teams meetings. Works for Zoom or anything on your screen. I think I forgot to mention this in the video but to record your own voice you need to set one of the audio inputs to the mic on your computer. So the first input is always the computer output (what you hear on your speakers) and the second input should be your computer mic. It’s in the Audio Settings. I’ve suggested to other viewers to test this out on a KZbin video to get all your settings correct before you actually record an online meeting. I suggest KZbin because it already has audio and then you can test your mic. That way you’ll know everything is working properly for an actual meeting. Hope this helps!

hello, quick questions please. I get a warning when I swap from the default format to MP4. It read that MP4and Mov are unrecoverable if the file cannot be finalised. (1) what is the need to chahnge formats? You also recommended to change the encoder, (2) what's the impact of changing the encoder? My original attempt recording (before your tutorial) teams just showed a black screen and audio. I would have been okay commonly, but that lecture had an abundance of visual information that I did not capture. (3) any ideas what I did wrong? I know it would be impossible for you to determine, i'm wondering if you have a quick guess. Thanks.

At 2:20 when you click on start recording a line came in left corner that 'Encoding overloaded! consider turning down video setting or using a faster encoding preset.' Hey man, thanks - screen capture is fine, but you didn't tell us how to capture also a original sound from the app? How will you get the sound from MS Teams meeting into the OBS recorder? :-)

Usually if the audio setting is set to Default you should be able to record audio from the meeting. However if that’s not working you’ll have to change the input setting to something else. Every computer is different but try one of the audio settings in the Desktop Audio drop down menu to see if it captures the audio. Sometimes if you have a headphone plugged in the setting might need to be changed. Have you tested recording when playing a video on KZbin to see if OBS Studio is actually capturing any audio from your computer? Hopefully you get it to work.

Is it possible to record the meeting and doing something else on the same device? Well I tried and it's not been working out. That is because every time I go to the desktop the main call blocks and so does the recording and a little pop up panel with ongoing call in the bottom left of the screen opens. That is very frustrating. Is there anyway to disable this function?

Yes! You will be able to listen to the audio. If there’s no sound on the recording check the Audio settings. Also I recommend doing a test by recording a KZbin video so everything is all setup before a real meeting. If you want to record your own audio you’ll need to add your mic as a secondary source also in the Audio settings. Hope this helps!

You should be able to record a 2 hour meeting with OBS Studio no problem. Gamers use OBS to record their gameplay and often their videos are very long. I would test your audio and video settings by trying yo record a KZbin video first so you can confirm you are recording everything correctly when you need to record a real meeting. Hope this helps!

At the bottom of OBS, there’s a window labeled ‘Audio Mixer’ and there you can find Desktop Audio & Mic/Aux. mute the Mic/Aux and then you won’t be able to hear anything but the lecture in the recorded video. This should also clear up the resolution of the sound.

Nobody will be notified of the recording. OBS Studio records what’s on screen and has no connection to Microsoft Teams.

I didn’t know at the time that maybe QSV encoder wasn’t available to everyone. I think that setting depends of your computer hardware. I would just use the default setting the computer chooses. It’s probably the best for the components you have on your computer. Hope this helps!

But will employer IT dept know that you have recorded a Teams meeting on a work PC when IT admin control about 80% of contacts within the work VPN? I'm not recording for Court purposes, this is a "just in case" situation because of an errant manager

If your employer is closely monitoring your computer activities they might be able to figure out that you’re recording your Teams meetings. They might know if you install OBS Studio on your computer if they are able to detect software installations. But if you have OBS Studio installed, I don’t think there’s any way they know you’re recording unless they are somehow seeing what you’re doing on screen. OBS does not send out any notifications when in use. If your company is using monitoring software where they intermittently take screenshots of your computer they might see that you have OBS running. But generally no one will know you’re recording. Hope this helps!

No one will be able to detect that you are recording your Teams meeting. If you haven’t used it yet, I recommend recording a KZbin video first so you can make sure all your audio and video settings are correct before attempting to record an important meeting! Hope this helps!

Oh man! I’m gonna have to check that now! When I made this video it was early in the pandemic but it’s possible that Microsoft Teams (and other programs) have found a way to notify the meeting organizer of a 3rd party recording like with OBS Studio. I’m on less online meetings now but I definitely need to check to see if stealth recording is possible anymore.

On a PC you can definitely capture the audio from the Teams call using the default settings for desktop audio. With a Mac on the other had its not possible without some other software or plugins involved. I still haven’t gotten it to work on Mac yet but if you’re on a PC then you’re good to go!

I already use OBS for while to record some important meetings in case I forget some important detail of it. However my microphone does some feedback loop when I use OBS as other meeting guests report me to try to stop the microphone feedback loop. The only solution I could do until now to fix the feedback loop is to terminate the OBS Studio. Any ideas on how to fix this? Muting my microphone in OBS will be the solution?

I just looked it up and OBS Studio has no time limit on the recordings. But obviously the longer the recording the more hard drive space it takes. But do some tests by recording a KZbin video to be sure you have your video and audio settings correct before recording an important meeting. Hope this helps!

Yes! If you’re on Windows you can record the audio from the meeting. In the audio settings make sure desktop audio and the first mic are set to default. OBS should already have it setup. You can see that at 1:20 in the video. If you’re on Mac recording desktop audio (meaning the main audio) is not easily done and I haven’t figured out how to do that yet. Hope this helps!

It worked for me for a while. But lately the recordings became chopped or frozen. The audio is recorded alright but the screen capture stops frozen in one frame in one point, then captures a bit more of the changes in the screen (like mouse pointer moving, new windows opening, ...) then gets choppy again (like the recording is skipping frames n you miss what's going on) or get completely frozen. It's really bad. I tried to increase the frame rate capture but it didn't fix it.

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing choppy recordings all of a sudden. I’m on Windows 10 and have not had that happen. Have you restarted your computer lately? I don’t know if changing settings will help since you didn’t have problems before. One thing that might help is to uninstall and then reinstall OBS Studio. That might reset things? Hopefully it works!

There’s a section at the bottom center of the interface where you can select the video source. It’s possible there was not source input. From the Source menu you can record a window, screen or a particular monitor among others. Try different ones and experiment by recording a KZbin video until you get all audio and video settings correct before your next online meeting. Hope this helps!

hello i dont underatns at about 230min you talk about monitirs i am not getting that; i always had video source cossen as window captture; i had a browser window open and the teams desktop app open; then i bring up the osb ui and i follow your steps and selet the teams app b4 i i join the meeting and click record in osb ui; then i minize the osb ui to get to the teams app and join a meeting but thats where i loose the video recording ots goes blank just audio; i saw on source option for video capture i guess i can try that? ok thxz anyway regards Lisa

hello what seems to be working is that i never minize the windows of either the osb ui and browser and teams app, i try to keep them all open and then switch between the windows; and so i have the teams app open and keep osb ui open and i switch and go to teams and start a meeting to test and the when that meeting window starts i switch back to the osb ui and click my winodw capture and then in the drop menu there should be the meeting window to selct and i selct it and then its recording that window; hope it works in real time the meeting ok thxz i will keep trying kind regards lisa
