Yeh, but only when you're trying to be sick. Merton hasn't said a single funny comment in at least 20yrs- Hislop was never funny- just smug. All either did was pull faces whilst struggling to say anything the least bit funny. This is why these two phoneys stuck the knife into the back of Angus Deayton as his autocue jokes were actually funnier than Merton's and Hislop's feeble attempts at humour. The proof is in the pudding- Hislop & Merton have been doing the same tired shit for 30yrs- they never were comedians.

Wipeout325 yr probably right have heard tales of a warm up artist and a placard saying “if you find anything remotely funny please laugh”having worked in the music industry inserting correction putting in tune and time hyping up artists with staged events etc and when adding applause have to pull the volume off each time for the next bit.but I,m probably just cynical and wrong?
@Wipeout3256 жыл бұрын
Jack I’ve been to the recordings of a couple of BBC shows (radio 4) and the only thing along those lines I remember being told was, if you laugh please laugh in the direction of the microphones. I know mock the week takes laughs from the episode and transplants them to different parts but that’s because they’ll often do lines again if they messed them up or what have you, so they add a laugh there because the audience aren’t going to laugh (or at least not as much) at the joke they’ve heard before. Edit: people often forget that while something might not seem laugh out loud funny, in these scenario surrounded by so many others people are more likely to laugh
@Jack-fs2im6 жыл бұрын
Wipeout325 that must have been interesting for you on Radio4.of course the can raise the volume of the laughs and pull it down for the next gag,couldn’t,t they?I have worked in film studios and watched major stars editing their shows.I have downloaded a laughter effect to my pc and tell jokes then trigger the effect much to the amusement of friends.Try telling some of tv jokes in the pub?perhaps I,m just a cynic and wrong?
@Wipeout3256 жыл бұрын
Jack they probably do change the volume, that’s sound balancing you need to have the laughs at a volume where they’re not quiet but not drowning out the actual thing you want to hear. Of course not all jokes on tv are going to get laughs for a variety of reasons, just as different taste in jokes and that th people in these shows have gone there for amusement and are more likely to laugh. Not sure what relevance you playing a laugh track to your friends s, it doesn’t help or hinder your argument it’s just an anecdote. Also why do you keep signing these off with things to the effect of “perhaps I’m a cynic and wrong” is it you being passive aggressive to imply that I’m an idiot? If so could you just say that and you do seem a bit cynical since you so seem to want to know

+SIEVECN it's only not funny now because the right is on the receiving end, due to the fact that they are IN POWER. Bearing in mind there's plenty of Corbyn bashing on the show, and the fact that they took the piss out of the labour government just as much, suggests to me that they are pretty evenly balanced. So stop getting butthurt about your party getting teased, because that's the point of the show. Go after the powerful politicians.
