It is pace momentum & accuracy for one-touch football has to have all 3 brilliant work in the box. Provides energy has to be fast-work past midfield me personally I'd try to keep the backline 20 yards back from centre and wait for the ball ready to counter on a wing to centre we must concentrate on midfield positions there's no need for an attacking defence we know we can play football. The back-line has to stay in our half. That's my comprehensive approach post Euro 3024. Well done.

Southgate was defensive 1st, defensive 2nd then attack. He was right I feel at the start of his tenure in addressing this area. As we kept getting found out defensively in the knockout rounds. Always found ourselves scraping through the group phases and landing one of the big boys straight away. With Southgate we finished top, benefited from a better draw. However he didn't evolve his tactics. When your strength is in attack you need to switch up and go on the front foot. Last Euros summed him up perfectly. Just keep tight and use our game changers off the bench to win it late. Problem as we've seen it, only going to get you so far. Carsley just in his 1st 45mins better balance, clear roles, pressing and more expansive way of play. Loved Gordon's runs and pressing. Trent played like Trent. Opened up the midfield area and we showed what we can do offensively. Just please keep it up for 90mins. Trent though in this New England has to start over Walker. Latter is a brilliant player but I just feel Trent offers more offensively!

@XboneMaloneАй бұрын
Micah said a weird thing when he was discussing McTominay. McTominay epitomises a lot of the issues that Utd have right now. Yes he was an academy product; yes, he clearly wasn't one of the apples that upset the cart; yes he'll run and run. I never had an issue with him in that regard. But that's where his value to the side ceased. He wasn't great on the ball (loose passes/touches/controls frequently); wasn't good off the ball in possession either (tend to find himself shadow blocked as an option); wasn't good defensively (see Bayern game for an example, there are other matches). We, frankly, don't need a midfield that struggle with that, we need improvements in all those areas (and I'm not suggesting that we still don't need more in). So it's a little trite to suggest we should have kept him for romantic notions. He wasn't going to play often, he's 27, so it's a sensible all round decision really. Will always remember his brace vs Leeds & other goals.

One of my biggest frustratons with England was not necessarily the selection of the starting line up but the options available and using them. Trent is a great example of this - bring him in and he offers so much, almost as a right sided quarterback - able to play balls of vision and distance. Toney bring on a target....Watkins sniffing around the edges of the attack...Gordan pace and direction on the left...the list goes on and they were not utilised in the euros. Ok to correct myself, one key thing was Bellingham on the left, he was wasted there and I am looking forward to Carsley being able to use the full deck and making his selections

I'm not sure if it's just me but it's pressure. That's the difference. At the Euros they looked tired and could tell the pressure was on them to perform after the poor run up to the tournament. It's the pressure on those big games. We need to see freedom on the pitch, which we did see here, but for that to continue into the biggest matches without being complacent. That's tough. Higher line, yes, but the majority of this was carried over from the Euros. Carsley would say as much. Over time we'll see more of an influence but I think they want Pep in the long run

Let' see how we get on against Finland. It was a disjointed Irish side and that's being kind. The movement upfront off the ball was encouraging and has been sadly lacking for a while. Nothing wrong with a bit of route one over the top, used sparingly if you have the right players. Makes us far less predictable when we come up against top class defences.
@jamielee5695Ай бұрын
I think Trent's qualities are so great that you simply have to pick him. Henderson would tuck in and cover for him before, can somebody facilitate a role like this perhaps? We also have a quick CB in Guehi who make up ground on the counter. Lets be brave now and try to win, not try not to lose. Also, Trent isnt half as bad defensively as people make out, the positions he takes up will leave us short on the transition but we have to work out a way players can cover that and allow him to influence games

It was a decent 45 against a poor side, let’s be honest and not get carried away. Kane still looks a shadow of his former self and should have scored, we had more of the Southgate era style in the second half when we should have really put them away comfortably. Ireland even got back into the game at points. The first 45 showed glimpses of what might be coming but I won’t get too excited yet - even if I’m fully aware it’s only 4 sessions and a single 90 mins into this period for Carsley’s England. Kane needs to really improve though but I also worry there is no natural replacement if he doesn’t.

The thing is the only way now for England fans to be satisfied will be to win a major tournament. I can't see it happening at the World Cup because I still don't think England are good enough keeping the ball and this time it will be over 8 matches in the searing heat of North America. But first they have got to qualify for it. I just want to see a manager with a distinct style of play who plays to England's strengths and stick to it win or lose. They have always had a defensive mistake in them and that's largely been because of England's major weakness of of keeping possession of the ball and progressing it up and through midfield. So agree with Gary - play to their strengths. Personally, I think Euros in 2028 is England's best chance of glory should they again get there and the final is at Wembley. That may mean another kind draw and not facing a technically superior team in the final.

In the first half England were very good, but in the second half had Ireland had a decent forward they could have equalized. The subs were good, the football more forward looking, but they played a very low level team. To be fair Carsley said before the match he would play more open football. He should probably be given the job since the FA want an Englishman (even tough he played for Eire he was born in England) and he is the only one that has won something and will not demand Premier League wages which the FA can't afford.

Lads Declan never played underage but played 3 times in friendly games for the senior Irish team and Jack played underage but never for the seniors. Most Irish fans dont mind Jack doing what he did as he was never selected by Martin O'Neill when everyone wanted him to but Declan learned the national anthem and played 3 times for the seniors so it stung a bit.

If you think Carsley can have an impact after working with the players for a week, you are having a laugh. Lots of Emperor's New Clothes going on - game was pretty much the same as under Southgate, albeit with a couple of new players.

ive seen literally no mention of Morgan Gibbs-White from any media coverage of the game. Its like he didnt play??

Thats for sure Ireland have been pants for the last 6 years no players of any use . No proper irish fans expected anything other than an Ireland loss

This show makes its clear that these guys know nothing about football outside the premier league. Sad really. Gomes is one of the the best English number 6 going around. He has more tech and awareness than most in the position. Before people go in on me, other are great too, but for these guys not to know about Gomes and not be following him is not good enough.

It's interesting that Pep never plays Grealish as a 10

I still can't believe that since having a 30 minute debut and impressing very much.. adam wharton hasn't played a single minute since.. palace fans will know what I'm saying in he should be one of the 1st names on the teamsheet. I swear he's better than mainoo in so many areas. The lads a baller and can't even get a call up

Well for me the biggest problem with this match was the fact that ireland are just so average these days I can remember the times they were qualifying for tournaments on the regular however pound for pound it was a complete mismatch so we do not really learn anything much about england really 🤔
