End of the day as fans we want to see pundits on TV say what we as a nation are feeling. When we're already annoyed at the performance the last thing we want is pundits blindly defending the team. The Denmark post match was refreshing and some of the best football coverage I've seen in a long time

Gary was spot on and incredibly insightful. Kane and co are clearly deflecting from their incredibly sub-par performances and putting the blame on media folk. You are making a ridiculous assumption that teams use exactly 1 tactic for 90 mins straight and do nothing else. Every team will low block and high press at different times, Rice said their low block had been one of the best in the tournament and they needed to bring that further forward, he said that their high press is going to be better. He didn't contradict anything Southgate said.

It absolutely was NOT a penalty. Watch it at any speed you like but focus on Armstong. If you can do frame by frame it makes it much easier to see. He gets between number 6 and the ball, and there is considerable space between them, with 6 focussed on the ball the whole time. Armstrong jumps back into 6 while grabbing the front of 6's shirt with his left hand and then spins both of them to the ground. If you just focus on 6 all you see it that halfway through Armstong's judo roll, 6's right arm reaches across Armstrong. That arm did literally nothing to impede Armstrong nor bring both of them to the ground.

Gary and Alan (and others) have gone up a huge amount in my estimation following the Denmark match. Thank you! Being honest, being relevant, saying what you see -- this is what every pundit should be doing. It is not a pundit's job to be a cheerleader, to drone on with platitudes, or to say nothing out of fear of upsetting their mates in the game. It was the same as Gary Neville talking about Ronaldo in his second stint at United. Ronaldo was upset (diddums) but it is a pundit's job to tell it as they see it. It's not personal. It was wonderful and refreshing to hear the discussions after the Denmark match because it was true and honest and needed to be said. Very disappointed in Kane trying to turn punditry into an old boys club and/or a psychological session for players. No, no, it is the manager's, coaches and team staff's job to deal with the players and ensure they are prepared and mentally healthy not a pundit's. If you can't take criticism then you are in the wrong job.

Look at the difference between how the Scotland team (same number of goals as England by the way) reacted to their loss. I was born and raised in Southend-On-sea. My first ever introduction to live football was my dad taking me to Root's Hall in the early 90s as a kid. Those memories have stuck with me all these years. I remember the buzz and excitement in my school when we got promoted to the championship, I remember the mood of the town after that historic FA cup win against Man United and the Freddie Eastwood free-kick! Southend is more than just a football club, it's history is woven into the fabric of that town, and it offers something beyond the material. Growing up in a poor family, getting bullied, walking down a high street that felt drab and neglected, it was hard to feel any sense of aspiration. Football has the power to bring a sense of community and togetherness to places like this that desperately need it. These are moments that the young impressionable me would have never experienced if it wasn't for that club. I'm praying for a good outcome.

Personally I hope the team do watch critics like Gary and Alan - two ex players who know exactly what it's like to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. I hope they realise that any valid criticism comes from a place of empathy - and with the desire to see this crop of young English players achieve something we all know they can do. We all think we know how to do it - but more importantly we all know these boys have the talent to actual go out there and really do it. It's not a question of ignoring or forgetting about criticism - it's about taking it on board and using it to progress as people - because behind all this is the question - why didn't they do what we know they can do? Sometimes it seems like we fear success more than failure. I say, be a team, enjoy it with each other, trust each other and forget about success and failure.

Agree with Gary on the ridiculous handball decision for Lukaku’s disallowed goal in the first game. Arm was in a natural running position and the refs didn’t even take into account the defender was jostling him into the ball. Think the refs should actually play a game of football once in a while to realise where a “natural” movement happens. Good of Gary to bring up Southend United. As a Macclesfield fan we went through the same troubles. Perhaps the government could be lobbied to introduce a new law to separate a football club as a business from the norm and give the clubs more protection from rogue or irresponsible owners. Either that or we should learn from the German models of 51% ownership. Perhaps skills, ideas and know how can be shared.

I've never seen such a great England squad, full of individual talent, from teams playing awesome league games, play so woefully and uninspiring. They play like they are scared to lose. As a German football fan: Which player wouldn't be confused when your team is playing with 3 right-backs and no left-backs because your manager forgot to nominate more than 1 left-back ? And the rest of the tactics are complete trash aswell. Who is playing 4-4-2 with a talented squad in 2024 ? If Georgia were to play against Spain that way, I would understand it somewhat, but England vs. Denmark ? Why are several players playing completely out of position when you could quite easily play them where they're best (especially Trent, Bellingham and Foden) ? I can't really judge other aspects of Southgate's managing style, but in terms of tactics, I'm sorry, but I'm giving him an F so far in this tournament.
@UnboxRacing

Yup, he's messed up on the left-hand side. Shaw isn't fit, so who can play the left side and get to the line for a cross? Nobody has done so far. If this was the “plan”, it needed redundancy, but he cut Grealish and Rashford. Now England is utterly predictable, feeding Saka all the time. Having to hit balls right and nothing cross field, its not easy. Good strategy and tactics are UNEXPECTED, not wholly predictable.

Originally I thought that was a penalty for Scotland, but the replay and the other angle showed that the attacker (Armstrong maybe?) pulled Orban onto himself by his shirt. The slow-mo was actually misleading, but after the full speed replay, that's just not a penalty at all. Regardless, there were interesting calls from the ref on both sides (Sallai got fouled like 3 times by the same defender in the first half without a yellow, Hungary got a free kick because of a Che Adams high foot, but no yellow etc.).
