I loved the Comfort Stylus back in the day,it was super handy for games that had you go back and forth between using the touch screen and buttons. The rubber on the case that came with it definitely degraded horribly over time. It was fine when the product was new,but it's clear that it wasn't made to last. It actually doesn't take much effort to clean off the excess rubber though,and without that grossness it is still a nice case.

The DK large stylus was a huge thing in the US when I was growing up; I had a Pikachu-themed giant stylus! It wasn't curved, it was straight, but it was much easier to hold due to its size. I used it for AGES until the Pikachu came off & the balance was thrown off.

The Rumble Pak is a very strange accessory, especially since there were only a few games that actually supported it. One of the strangest examples of a game that didn't is Mario and Lugi Bowser's Inside Story. It's unusual because the game before it, Partners in Time, fully supported the accessory. However, upon releasing the DSi, Nintendo basically forgot about the rumble Pak.
@Luke-cp9cb2 жыл бұрын
Well that makes perfect sense because the rumble pak utilized the gba port and the DSi didn’t have one

A few games can use the Rumble Pak. Mine came with Metroid Pinball. I often used it for multiplayer 42 All Time Classics; it would vibrate to alert you on your turn, which was handy if I got distracted by something shiny... Oooh, shiny... Where was I? ... Oh yes. Compatible games had the same logo (like coils either side of a DS), as you'd discovered, marked on the back of the game cases. I wonder if the wrap around stylus would be handy on the left thumb for games like Metroid Prime Hunters and the catchily named Super Mario 64 DS. As a right handed person I find the left hand stylus controls to be awkward, especially with the action buttons on the right. Do the Japanese hold pens and quills differently from the western cultures? Maybe the curved design has a benefit to them? I know they are very specific how they write their hirigana/katakana/kanji characters (Japanese letters). Just a thought.
@thec-m Жыл бұрын
I used to use something similar to that bendable finger stylus with my DS. You can get these small styluses that strap to your fingertip. The stylus part was only very small and I don't think they were official, but I found myself using them a lot. Also, the case could probably be coated in something or just kept as a collector's item. A more involved solution would be to measure and 3D print one or use it to make a mold.

probably a bit late for this but i have been able to successfully recover products from rubber reversion by wiping all of it with acetone wipes. you can just pour some nail polish remover on a disposable textile wipe and do this instead, but do make sure to discard wipes often and only use them in a certain area so as to not spread the dissolved rubber onto more of the surface. after you're done, and if the plastic behind the rubber is any solid, you can polish it with some mineral oil to remove streaks and make it presentable again.

It seems to be more about aesthetics rather than ergonomic design. The Zelda quill is meant to mimic a real quill aesthetically. However realistically, a real quill is longer and more hefty so its weight still rests in between your thumb and index. The curve in the Donkey Kong Stylus is also more for aesthetics to mimic curvature of bananas. They seem to place ergonomics a distant second well under aesthetics.

The key ring/stylus holder looks like it's meant to allow the user to switch between using the stylus and playing with the ABXY buttons and R trigger without awkwardly holding the stylus between your thumb and the DS. Probably wouldn't be very comfortable, though, seeing how thick it is.

There was something called a Wave Scanner for Ryuusei No Rockman (Megaman Starforce) That was of course Japanese exclusive. It plugged into the DS via the Gameboy port but the main connection was a little cord that plugged into that little plug at the bottom. It allowed you to scan barcoded cards and it had an LCD screen on it. It alone could be played by itself but the main functionality was to give you battle cards in the actual DS game much like the BattleChip Gates for the gameboy. I own one but it doesn't work that well unfortunately which is probably why it never got localizations.
