I understand that outside of Brazil , Denilson was kinda forgotten, but in Brazil he’s still part of our lives , even people who didn’t watch him as a player (like young kids) know and loves him, he’s an analyst on a Tv show , and he’s a pure entertainer, one of the funniest guys on Tv , I really love Denilson

Brazilians and Declining too young always seem to mix so often. Probably the reason why Pele was so great. He never declined by anything but age.

Pele was a pioneer when it comes to a football player being a true elite athlete. At that time it was common for players to smoke, to be overweight, and Pele was an example of an athlete.

@@No-wc6hw Garrincha used to smoke and also was alcoholic (died from Cirrhosis) Cruyff used to smoke (Died of lung cancer) Socrates used to smoke and was an alcoholic (Died from alcohol-related problems) George Best Jack Charlton Gerson (Brazil midfielder in the 1970 WC) Michel Platini Jimmy Greaves And even players of the current times who have already been photographed smoking. It is undeniable that Pele was an example of an athlete and was far ahead of his time. He was the Cristiano Ronaldo of the 20th century in those terms of professionalism and to be a complete and dedicated athlete

When I was a kid, Denilson was my favorite player on that 1998 WC. I had just learned how to do a stepover and oh man...once I saw him in that Nike commercial I thought he was so cool! I wanted to BE Denilson Lol. 😅😆

Remember this transfer story and the fee involved and thinking who the hell are Betis, let alone who was Denlison? But everyone thought he must be amazing, if this club have paid that for him.

Btw, he said in an interview that he was hurt in 2002, constantly lying to the coach saying he was ok so he wouldn't get cut from the team

Since Betis is my favourite squad and Denílson taught me to love football, I admire his pure flair and technique, but to be honest, he was really irregular and his lack of tactical concepts were his greatest weaknesses

I remember this player, most people thought he would have been a left footed Garrincha. He was just so gifted, speed, dribbling skill, great first touch and he had a wonderful left foot.I seem to remember that he could also take freekicks. He had all the qualities to be one of the Brazilian greats but he lacked the ability to finish. He became an entertainer on the football field,he probably should have remained in Brazil for a few years, matured and then headed for Europe around the age of 24.It's really a pity that a player like Denilson,so technically gifted, never realized his full potential. In the end he was reduced to becoming an entertainer or a player the coach would bring on just to run the clock down.It really is a tragedy that this player did not achieve football greatness because his talent was never in doubt.

The thing with him was the injuries and the feel he had after the WC 2002 like he beat the game, so why try harder to be a better player? he was a great dribbler but not as objective on his dribbling like ronaldinho or neymar. As the ''12th'' player on a squad to be like a quick sub to kill time in a match dribbling all over the pitch he was fantastic, the games he played in the WC 2002 he was purely used to this mission and he suceeded in it. I'd say if he had a more objective playstyle and left the real betis team earlier to find himself somewhere else, he would've had a better carreer for sure

@@parisp2583 I didn’t see R9. Of course he had more hype. But Denilson came in with more hype than Kaka and Ronaldinho. He was a world record transfer coming out of Brazil which was known as a place to pick up players on the cheap. R9 only cost PSV 5 million a few years before. So Betis parting with more than 20 million for a guy out of the Brazilian league who was barely 20 was insanity. He was expected to be at R9’s level but he was bang average as opposed to Kaka and Ronaldinho who won balon dors.
