Since the White House changes occupants pretty frequently, each president has spent loads of money redecorating the building, which is estimated to be worth about $400 million. Donald Trump has spent the most of any president so far-- almost $2 million for things like wallpaper, rugs, gold decor, and a $13,000 conference table. But Barack Obama spent only a little less, while others like George W. Bush have spent $500,000 on formal china, and Bill Clinton spent over $300,000 on just one room. Some of the Trump Administration’s most notable changes include renovations to the White House grounds, like when Melania Trump helped design a brand new Rose Garden and 1,200-square-foot tennis pavilion. The First Lady even made changes to the White House’s historic bowling alley.
Some of these presidents pay out of pocket, especially when it comes to redecorating the private residence. Historical foundations sometimes also foot the bill, like for when Michelle Obama spent over $400,000 restoring historic Bellangé furniture from 1817. The White House is filled with expensive antiques and even strange rooms that you might not even know exist, like a game room and 42-seat family movie theater where presidents can request any movie they like. The building also has an entire room full of expensive china, and another full of priceless silverware. Trump actually did speak to the committee that is in charge of repairs/decor. No one was really keeping up with repairs. He and the First Lady did a lot of restoration that was needed and repairs that were long over due. As far as the decor, they basically switched furniture, paintings, etc. around and he even paid for a few items, not sure exactly which ones. Everything was long over due. It looks a lot better.

The White house curator is the one how desides what happens to the basement & first floor, but de 2nd & 3rd are the private floors & the family can choose whatever they want since all the historic things are below those floors.

White House furniture and draperies, etc., are kept in warehouses and new occupants can choose some things from those instead of buying new. The presidential desk, for instance, is chosen from antiques we already have in storage. Much is donated, too.

the furniture replacement of some of the room takes place every 4 years ,so the tours of people visiting can mock on every presidential wife´s bad taste. There is a large warehouse of furniture that each first family may choose from to decorate the White House. It contains furniture that has been changed out over the years from past first families. In the 1800’s, furniture was regularly sold after new administrations took over, that doesn’t happen now. Each first family works with a chosen American china company to create a presidential service for that particular family. It usually takes place toward the end of an administration. I’ve never heard what happens to the Christmas decorations that are new every year. A theme is chosen every year by the First Lady and decorations are created that go along with the theme.
