Thermae Modulation Tutorial

We've had a lot of questions about how sequence mode and modulation mode work together. It's a little confusing, but once you understand how it works you'll be happy because it means you can have both modulation and sequencing happening at the same time.

EDIT: I should preface my comment below by saying that, minor gripes aside, this is still probably the best sounding analog delay I have ever played, and is extremely feature rich and well supported and has a crazy small footprint. Now back to grousing: I'm not gonna lie, after playing with my new Thermae for a couple hours today, I feel very strongly that this switch is too important and too frequently accessed to be DIP switch. There are multiple other switches on the front panel (IE Modulation wave randomness) which I barely touch, but I need a magnifying glass to access the modulation controls (which are usually front and center on most delays). That and there is no way to flip the switch in software - even with the M4L plugin I gotta get the tweezers to make an adjustment. I'm tempted to bust out the soldering iron and try to install a switch manually if I can find solder pads, but I'm worried I'll brick my $500 new toy.

I agree completely. It's way more useful than the Interval Knobs for me personally.

so if I turn off and turn on the pedal, will it still remember that modulation setting ? or do I have to flip the switch to set modulation where I like it each time the pedal is on? (Assuming not using presets)

The modulation will stay as you set it until you deliberately change it.

So that’s just like the tone/ramp knob on the Tonal Recall, right?

Thibaut Rvl the big difference is that with tone/ramp you have to move the knob to wake it up and make a change. With these it immediately reflects the toggle and knob positions and simply remembers where you had them last set when you move the dip switch... and then immediately reflects the positions in the new mode after change

If i get a pitch shifter and use a sepert delay pedal will I get the same effect.

I guess, it would be a bit tricky. You can set two different intervals here, delayed. Even if you have delay pedal with fx loop or if you plug your delay into separate loop with pitch-shifter, you will get all delay lines shifted the same way. Maybe if you have two delays in a separate loops, each with a pitch-shifter, each set to slightly different delay time, they will sound similar. still, you need a regular delay without pitch shifter and the way to sync then all. maybe that's why thermae got 4 chips? I still think it's overpriced, but it's not as cheap and easy to replicate as you said.

No you would not. This pedal is pitch shifting by modulating the delay time of the pedal so you’re getting these round it off pitch shifts that are completely different than a normal pitch shifting delay. Also, the tone of the delay is unmatched in my opinion.

The dip switches on the Chase Bliss pedals turns me off frankly. The last thing I need is a complex , yet too complicated of a guitar pedal. Too many choices can be a bad thing!

Its not for everyone, but once you figure them out (its not that hard but does take some time) they are very useful. Plus you don't HAVE to use them at all, the pedal is great sounding even if you don't use them.
