Are you hitting the start button to go to the next step in recipe?

In the beginning you press the Start Cooking button which is a green rectangle bottom left of the screen. then in-between each step there's a green rectangle Next button top right of the screen that you press after each step until the end when it says Finish Cooking.

My parmesan cheese is super hard. Is it ok to grind it?

Yes fine to grind anything super hard but the harder it is, it's better to have it cut smaller first.
