Hands down best video to learn how to replace a thermostat. No shaky cameras, no dumb ass intro, no side chatting, just straight down to business. Step-by-step guidance was perfect. I watched this video 1 time and learned exactly what to do. I came back to reference a few parts, but it was very well done! Thank you. Took me less than an hour to complete.

What mileage should it be replaced
@taxidrive634 жыл бұрын
@@honestscentz9300 Actually I decided to replace it because the radiator fan failed (just didnt work anymore) and I was having a hard time bleeding the air out of the system, so I thought it was time for the the thermostat too. As to the mileage , it only had 50k . And letting everybody know at 40k miles the alternator had failed and oil leak from the engine oil cooler gaskets too(the one right next to the oil filter) !! Funny thing I have an X3 with exactly same engine and power train with 120k miles and no fails at all,LOL

My x1 is on 3rd thermostat at 33k. Thermostat open circuit on code. This bleeding procedure doesnt work on 2014 x1 28i. I just run engine. There are several tricks to this job not mentioned here.

Draining the coolant by removing the lower hose from the auxiliary radiator will greatly reduce the mess of coolant from the thermostat hoses.

Seriously the way to be done. Entire cooling system should be all replaced at the same time. Hoses, plastic flange, coolant, thermostat. What a mess here I'd be pissed if they left a mess without cleaning it up.

Do I need to remove the lower plastic cover under the engine to do this job?

No, you don't

What happens if I ran the engine while bleeding , could that cause it to not bleed properly and overheat?
@CopZero3 жыл бұрын
Well to run that procedure it can only be in accessory mode the engine can’t be on.

Is it absolutely necessary to drain ALL coolant before beginning this?
@stellarmotors4 жыл бұрын
no it’s not but it saves a bit of the mess when you pull the thermostat out
@andrewwade73944 жыл бұрын
@@stellarmotors thank you. So how many litres would I drain just to drop it below the level of the thermostat assembly?
@stellarmotors4 жыл бұрын
You won't be able to drain it below the thermostat housing. Draining the radiator will only reduce the amount of coolant that will come out when you release the thermostat
