Thanks to this video I managed to change the thermostat on my 2014 Skoda Superb. Thank you! Terrible work. I allmost gave up many times. I recommend using a hose clamp tool with a cable(on one end of the cable is a hose clamp press and on the other a grip to open and close the hose clamp press). Makes it much easier to access all those hard to reach hose clamps. I could not have done it without this. tool.

I did it today... spent hours to unmout everything, get out the thermostat for the egine compartment, etc... mounting everything again and while putting liquid colling in the bowl I got leakage under the car :(. I guess the gasket/seal of the thermostat did not get the good place. Need to to it again from scratch what a nightmare. 6hours lost

Thanks for this video wouldn't have attempted it otherwise. With a cable operated hose clip tool getting the hoses off wasn't too bad. Hardest part of the whole job is getting that bottom bolt off/on the thermostat to the block. Worth noting they are using a 10mm 'wobble' socket with a 1/4" drive to get access as it's super close to the alternator. I ended up using a short spline bit (8) and a 10mm spanner instead to crack the bolt off. Also the bolts on the EGR valve are T30 not T27. Defo have a magnet to hand as you will drop bolts!

I have a 1985 Ford 460 V8, and it takes about 15 minutes, and most of that is draining the coolant. It takes one socket and a screwdriver. This is crazy just for a thermostat.

Great video, My Jetta looks pretty similar except I have a EGR valve and my oil filter is right in front of the bolt of that last hose on thermostat. I also couldn’t get the bottom bolt on the thermostat and had to remove my alternator.

Shouldn't you change the O ring on the plastic pipe that fits into the back side of the thermostat?

This depends on many repair factors. We cannot show all the nuances and problems during replacement; this is all individual. To avoid this, we always recommend that replacements be carried out by specialized car services.
@odeyon18 ай бұрын
Took me almost 5 hours. The bigest problem was undoing the bottom screw. I have quite. Good selection of tools but couldnt get anything on it. Ended up making a tool from an M12 cap head bolt. Once loose I was able to undo it with a 6mm ballended alen key. Deolacing the bolt was tedious as it was not posible to push the housing home. Had to wind it in with the screws, Very slow going with resistance against them.

Not an easy job this, couple of points though...throttle body bolts are T30, not T27 and the spline bolts are #8, not #6. At leat that was the case on my B7 Passat CAYC engine. If you can, change the hose clamp clips to jubilee clips as it'll be easier next time.

Hate new cars and foreign cars. Working on your own vehicle was so much easier back in the day, with LOTS of room around the engine, no special tools needed. Plenty of room for tools, and no need for 100 different kinds of wrenches and screw drivers... crazy why engineers woudl want to make things more complex.
