you made it clear for me, thank you. I called the hunter tech line and they told me I did not need the brown and blue wire, I have a two stage heat pump so I did need the wires connected.

I bought a Honeywell Thermostat from Lowes. Label on thermostat reads installs in 15 minutes. I was having problems wiring so after reading the manual and calling Honeywell which is closed today I then called Lowes. They could not tell me what the 2 extra wires a blue and an orange were for. I got online and googled and read and googled and read some more. Then I finally found your video link...and wa la ..thermostat is installed and working correctly. You made it easy for me to understand. Thank you so much for having this video post!

YOU are AWESOME!!!!! I had a 4 wire mechanical switch and installing a zwave digital thermostat ( monitor online etc.. ) I struggled for days with O/B... heat pump would only pump out heat all the time. I Looked everywhere for answers.. put the white wire ( heat ) from w1 to O/B... and presto!!!!! thanks a million!!

great video! that was exactly what I was looking for. I couldn't figure out the orange wire and wasn't sure about the white one with a heat pump.

also the orange wire is if the reversing valve is cooling active, it may be blue if its heating active.

The video was very educational. Although I wish you would have explained how to tie the wires together to turn the heat pump on. Because it is confusing if you use the heat wire or not. For someone that does not work on AC units. Thanks again

Run at least 18/10 wire. I know trane is selling new thermostats that are 24v required so you need a common conductor. If you have a heat pump/air handler that are both 2 stage. You would need 24v,common,blower motor,EM,W1,W2,Y1,Y2 wires. You might also need 2 wires for an outside thermostat. Idk I just think more than 7 is necessary

That heat pump cost more to run than my gas heat I bought this unit 12yr ago it's Amana with a heat pump, if it's using the ac compressor how is it cheaper I have a 2 ton unit, does the unit pull the same amount of power whether it's using the heat pump or the ac I'm curious.

red by itself is not 24vlt you need common in order to complete the 24 vlt circuit. so from your transformer one side is power which is always red and the other side is common which can be green or blue.. red goes to your thermostat and common stays at the circuit board, the only time you bring common to your thermostat is to power up the thermost just in case your batteries die.

My AC works just fine, fan comes on automatically. When I switch to heat, the thermostats clicks and shows "heat on" but my fan doesn't start up and the heat pump doesn't run. Any ideas??
