Touching at the very, very end there. What was not covered though was, is that Morris is one heck of a drummer musician. I think Morris played drums on The Time's early albums, there's a hi hat shuffle fill thing that's either Prince or Morris and I think Morris was on the drums for Cloreen Bacon Skin and Tricky which is taken from that session. Prince on bass and voices and Morris on the drums. Anyway, cool interview but surely there's a more complete one without the fake Prince music in the background, why give Morris just 2 minutes, he's got so many stories and I'd love to know more about Morris as well! Thanks.

For me, the greatest tune Morris ever did was off The Time's first record, a song called "The Stick." It's the baddest-ass jam you can imagine, and Prince rips a kick ass solo and also sings on the track. Don't miss this song.

That whole album was recorded only by Prince and Morris. Prince played all of the instruments, except maybe Morris on drums, and sang background vocals. They put the band together after they cut the album.

Ive been a huge Prince fan since 1982. Here in America we tend to recognize things annually. Prince is no exception. MJ, Elvis. Yes book publishers marketing firms and reps are going to capitalize on it. I do no see this great injustice being committed against Prince. He himself was a marketing genius. If the wife had not been restricted legally you betcha a book would have come out many many years ago. Did she capitalize on the situation, Yeah. Does this make her worthles, absolutely not. It makes her shred. She married a famous man and like it or not she does have a valid up close and personal perspective to share about her time with him. Had they remained married and he left every dime to her most of you lip smackers wouldnt have anything to say about the book. Grow up people.

I attended college in southern MN in the mid 70's...we'd go to the Holiday Inn in Bloomington and dig on 'Flyte Tyme'. Alexander O'Neal, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Monte Moir, Jellybean Johnson, etc....although they mostly did top 40, they were tight and we knew if they got a break, they'd make it. Prince's first l.p., 'For You' came out my senior year 1978...although he was the man, ie, "Jamie Starr", FT was solid. Prince helped, but they were gonna make it anyway.

Of FFS, can you take your bitter obsessions somewhere else and allow the rest of us to enjoy our memories of this time period. Regardless as to P being the impetus, the fact still remains that it was ALL these inaugural alumnae of that period that impacted a lot of our lives through what the contributed to the pop culture at the time. Everything doesn't have to boil down to all this childish competition the more imbalanced, obsessed fans make it out to be. Just sit back and enjoy the creative output, identify with how these artists are using art to work through the grief process...or at least have the maturity to let be and peace to prevail and folks to enjoy their memories from that time period.
@infinine997 жыл бұрын
stylecollective Thank you! Well said. Down with negativity...
@esquibelle7 жыл бұрын
+ Jacqueline Perry Obviously you were not around at that time. You have it all backwards. Prince was inspired by Jesse Johnson of the Time ~ one of the great guitar players of the world. Jesse listened to heavy metal and played rock music with an R&B feel. Prince loved it & went from straight R&B to writing in a new vein - totally inspired by past musicians of all colors & genres. The Time not only had the great Morris Day but Terry Lewis & Jimmy Jam who became two of the most successful and prolific producers of all time. You say that can't sell anything? ROTFL...Terry & Jimmy have sold hundreds of millions of records as producers of Janice Jackson's megahits and Bobby & Whitney & worked with so many best selling artists it's ridiculous - they are involved with hundreds of millions of record sales - just google them - Prince was unique and truly one of a kind, but it's not cool to belittle the great artists who nurtured Prince's talent, whom he loved and respected...and who all contributed to Prince's sound like a big beautiful Minnesota stew ! Yum! :)
@ZhanaZee7 жыл бұрын
Very well said….they all were important to the creation of that sound and bringing it to life. Without Morris and the others being the talents they were Prnce would not have been the person he is also. So you are right everyone played a part in creating something magical. The right souls coming together to bring an era into a glorious light

Prince was a gemini, he was confident, ambitious and wanted out of poverty and didn't go around getting government assistance, he starved, that made him more ambitious and that meant discipline and confidence and HARD WORK. There's no reason to even say Prince was a jerk, he was who he was, a gemini that would be different day to day depending on tasks and you just rolled with it, that's why his early friends are the most sincere and real Prince ever had. So sad he went so far away in his journey that no one was there to catch his fall. .::Modernaire

Stop with the ultra conservative bullcrap. The biggest welfare receivers are the ultra rich. The USA government gives them a trillion dollar tax break a year and allows their corporations to escape paying 2 trillion dollars a year in taxes. Only 3 Percent of the total USA budget is spent on welfare. 50 percent on military "warfare".
