I think it's sad when couples separate due to the death of a child or children because that's when they need each other the most.
@majorkade4 жыл бұрын
especially when it's not anybody's fault. I know of one case, though, where a mother insisted her child wear a helmet while riding a 4-wheeler on the family farm. The father would say it was alright, even arguing about it with the mother ("He's a boy. He'll be fine.") Soon, there was a roll-over accident and the child died. Naturally, the wife blamed her husband. who wouldn't? Divorce came a few years later.
@josephrincon99474 жыл бұрын
You are correct as far as I'm concerned but it's true that the death of a child for some reason causes the couple to break up. The couple that had Adam a young boy who was abducted and murdered separated. The Dad started America's most wanted and I thought why would they break up? I believe he said that whenever he looked at his wife it was just too painful because seeing her brought up visions of his son. After years the murderer finally confessed and Adam's body was recovered.
@heatherhillman14 жыл бұрын
It is unfortunate, but it's very common. Parents can so easily get caught up in their own grief and neglect to support their spouse. When both parents feel alone in their grief, it can drive a wedge into an otherwise loving relationship that they often just don't have the communication skills to overcome.

I understand your point but it's a bit presumptious to measure someone's pain and claim that other people haven't hurt as much as you. You simply CAN'T KNOW it. Many people suffer from terrible illness, losses, grief. Also, at the risk of being called callous I would still say it's more terrible to lose a child you actually got to raise (for however time it was), I mean people lose their small and adult children to illness, accidents, murders, wars ALL THE TIME and you claim that those who lost babies (yes stil horrible) suffer the most of them. Listen to yourself and show to people the SAME empathy you demand from them. You simply don't know what cross each person carries. I suffer from clinical depression (yes it's not the same as losing children but to me subjectively it's a life of pain) - yet I don't think anyone owes to ''listen'' or even understand me simply because I don't know what THEY are struggling with.

She still defended him about their son because she said he had a tour to think about. He wanted to move on and suppress his grief, by throwing himself into his work. He wanted to pretend like it never happend! It was cruel if him to force her to grieve in the same way though! She has a right to tell her side! The only thing I have to say is...no man, husband or not would have kept me from my dying child! And I can tell you I have been at the bedside of my dying son (he was killed in an attempted robbery when he was 18 two years ago) my father had yo pry me away from him and carry me...this waa just so we could transport him to the O.R. because he waa an organ donor. But i got to be in the O.R. till his heart stopped beating and then we were rushed out. No way would my son be alone in the end if I had a choice. She didnt fight hard enough..IJS. It was cruel of him that he didn't let her be with their son when he died. To make matters worse he made her pretend that their baby was alive on national television. Then to be so distant after her miscarriage is cold. That's when your wife needs support the most. I read the book. It's her story. Prince just happens to be a major part of that story. The story is told in a very respectful way. I don't understand why fans are hating so much on Mayte. Sheila E wrote a book. So did Devin Velasquez. Mayte's got just as much right to tell her story as anyone else. There are 2 ppl in a relationship. Equal parts. One side doesn't hold more weight than the other. Even if that other half happens to be Prince. Yes, he was famous but he was still just a human being. Just like Mayte and other individual walking this earth.
@MissB24837 жыл бұрын
Amen!!! Thank you. I thought it would was told in a respectful way as well. I am finishing up the book now and I don't look at him any different. This was her story about her life with him; the good and the bad, and the ups and the downs. Like she said he was a GEMINI and I definitely know how they have those 2 personalities. He wasn't a God. He was a flawed human being just like us all. A lot of the content in the book is stuff the "real" prince fans should have already heard & knew about, she's just giving a more detailed account of everything. But like you said lighteyes214, some of these people think that one side does hold more weight b/c he is PRINCE. I LOOOOVE me some Prince, but I never put him on a much higher pedestal. He was an ARTIST/ENTERTAINER. Not a GOD.

I personally believe their relationship fell apart because they lost two children. I also believe that if she had two healthy children with Prince, they never would have divorced. Prince's relationship with Larry Graham was the nail in the coffin. Prince was looking for spiritual guidance after losing both of his children & he was vulnerable. They both were. Their relationship never recovered after that. Reading her book, it's clear as day what happened. It's actually sad to realize that religion played a big part in their separation as well. smh If everything had gone the opposite way, Prince would still be here, I think.
@zillzultraboy7 жыл бұрын
That's true, BUT do you think any of that would have happened if they had the children they lost? Prince may have never become part of that religion, for those circumstances to even occur. I think he lost faith [in God & his relationship] when he lost them.

It's so sad how their relationship fell apart...it looked like they were so in love. Its crazy how he just left her like that though...that was heartbreaking. After seeing the late Irish Pop Superstar: Sinead O'Connor's recent interview before her death where she openly admitted that Prince Rogers Nelson aka Prince was a Physically abusive woman beating maniac, I have realized that one should not judge a man by his screen charm and musical brilliance. Prince may have been a very talented and charming artist, but he also hid a very dark side of him. I think Mayte is simply too Noble to only showcase his positive aspects.
@kerry29219 ай бұрын

For almost 30 years she said nothing until after his death, and that's an extremely cowardly thing to do...I think she's a liar
@tagee2677 жыл бұрын
I think that people are being very harsh towards Mayte. To not be ab;e to speak your child's name, to lose another child by miscarriage and to have your husband set you up alone in another country as you and he mourn separately, had to be extremely emotional for the both of them. Prince was extremely private but he was also his most open with his relationship to Mayte. Events make people change. I always believed his was very spiritual but lost after having lost 2 children. He even admitted that he cried once when he was 12 after his Dad wouldn't let him live with him after his Mother. He said that was the last time he cried. I think he was an emotional wreck and neither of them had the tools to seek help (due to his desire for privacy). How do we know what Prince would have written in his book, it's all speculation at this point. There is no Official Record of an annulment on record. Mayte says in her book that he wrote it out on a piece of regular paper and asked her to sign it. She didn't want an annulment because in her faith (Catholic) that would have mad Amiir a bastard child and she wasn't having it. She was in his life for 11 years (most pivotal time of his life) that is why she was asked to be interviewed by networks after his passing. He clearly loved her but struggled with his new found religion and the obstacles of modern medicine for treatment of any ailment. He wouldn't even acknowledge the hop surgery that he had that got him hooked on pain killers. I believed her wished there were things in his life that he didn't do. He even mentioned it at an awards ceremony a couple of years ago. "You don't have to do all the crazy things I did to make it in this industry". Listen to the song "The Breakdown", watch his interview in 2000 when he says at the end of the hallway at Paisley Park there was a picture of he and Mayte embracing. He says he thought that was the end of the story. Long story short, I believe that where both madly in love with each other and just were dealt a bad hand and didn't know how to play the card that would have kept them together. I read the book twice, are there things that probably that shouldn't have been said, yes. But in order for her to make you try and understand this man and the pivotal turn he took after losing those babies, she had to tell the story as she did. I do not see him in a negative light at all after reading the book. I only wished he had be able to find a way to reach out for help for himself and Mayte the difficult journey THEY experience together.

Taja West: What Prince and Mayte went through with losing their son was a tragedy. I just think it's disrespectful to write a book about someone who is deceased and can no longer speak for himself. Mayte can say whatever she wants, because she's not being held accountable for anything now that Prince is gone. All Mayte is doing is "stirring the pot", which is exactly what she wants. Obsessive enough to the point that the other ladies on the show asked Mayte how she going to date another man with all the Prince stuff around the house. Totally right there. I've known & met alot of famous to very famous people, & they are who they are, not who you dream they would be. Now sometimes that's good, even great but then there are some 👎 and that's again who they are. We credit our idols, even our loved ones with characteristics that aren't real, & we allow behaviour that we shouldn't tolerate from anybody. But you don't have to be famous for that to happen it's just for some ridiculous reason we expect fame, fortune & talent to make perfection from ordinary people. Prince was a person, just a person. Like all of us the real him lived inside & he showed what he wanted to whomever he chose. We are all complex critters, most of us just don't have the world watching us. When I say this, I am referring to all the people, (specially men at the moment) who've fallen so far and their secrets so horrible that we're aghast at the behaviour they've gotten away with. Don't be overwhelmed by how bad a person can be! Be overwhelmed at the people who enabled it. We've all had relationships that went wrong, but no one puts us on a front-page, that's the difference.

But he did and he walked away and he never looked back. No one is obligated to stay in a relationship with someone they don’t get on with. What’s wrong with the world today so many judgemental people taking the moral high ground smh

It’s HER story. She can tell it wherever and however to whoever she wants and it absolutely doesn’t make her less fantastic. It’s obvious to me that she has been incredibly graceful and intentionally protective of him regardless of the imperfections their relationship suffered and the heartache she lived. It’s so insane to me to be someone’s “fan” and that makes you feel validated to just dog out someone they obviously loved in an apparently perceived effort to be supportive of them...? I always feel supported when strangers disrespect people I love for things that are none of their business and unconfirmed to even be accurate. People are so weird.

the central issue is that she is selling her story based on an intimate relationship with Prince and the death of her child. If she were not married to Prince, do you think she would sell many copies?

Bit he can’t tell his story, and she makes him look bad in the book. Not that much in the interview.

@@stefanigreeneyes So it turns out your hero was a jerk sometimes. That's reality. You want to continue to pretend he was perfect and without any flaws, don't read anything and keep imagining him as whatever you want. But that's not real life.

@@tc6664 She might still have written a book to honor the loss of her babies and the ex husband because of how precious they were to her. It was imperative that she wrote the book because Prince was a public figure.

The book is a non-issue and will do nothing to tarnish Prince's legacy. It is a heartfelt recount of a relationship lost. It's fine. In Trump's America, this does not need to be the thing that raises your blood pressure. Honestly.

it doesn't matter how cruel, selfish or controlling a Prince was not a perfect man he had flaws as we all do but he was also a good man with good intentions and i think he cared about a lot of things and did good deeds while here on earth. I will always love him and the genius he was his beautiful music will live on forever and it speaks volumes more than this silly book of Maytes and you right we have more things to worry about what's going on in america and the world.

For the record, I'd recommend reading it if you're someone who likes stories about everyday Prince. It is very touching; nothing silly about it at all :)

I have read it and there were some good parts and something's could have left unsaid, way too personal and should been kept between her and Prince not whole world to know.

I understand. I sort of felt that way at first, but after the shock and emotion passed (I got really emotional), I felt better about it. It's not information I ever thought I'd be privy to, but it is as much her story as it is his.

He pretended the baby was ALIVE!?! 😕 Why??? Not letting her be there when the baby died is sick. He wouldn't let the poor girl mourn. He was clearly a control freak. I heard he was controlling from a professional point of view (like the vault lol), but at home too? Is this the chick that was a teenager when they met? And he also told her to lose weight and refused medical assistance? She seemed like an enamoured young woman who just went along with the craziness. I get that Prince fans are pissed with the book and think it's "unnecessary" especially now that Prince is dead, but I'm pretty sure much of her stories were already out there when he was alive. Also this isn't just some hanger-on, she was his WIFE and mother of his children. Sure it's from her point of view, but she's telling the truth. People have no empathy...

Jack Edwards: Those stories about Prince refusing medical care for his pregnant life are all lies. See, this is the problem on social media. That story you are talking about was from Prince's former nanny's/maids who were in cahoots with Mayte to trash Prince's name. Mayte was hurt and she said some nasty things about Prince when they split/divorced. Mayte wasn't exactly an angel. Get real. Prince got used and he was onto her. He cut her out of his life. Sure, he was grieving the loss of his son in his "own way". Don't judge. Mayte writes her damn book and gets everyone all twisted! SMDH Let Prince rest in Peace! Prince wouldn't be having ANY of this and it's just a lack of respect for Mayte to publish this garbage so she can make a profit off of her ex-husband's death? Who is the "heartless" and "disgusting" one here? Certainly not Prince! I'm sorry for what Mayte went through, but she has to come to a point in her life where she has to let go and move on and stop trying to cash in on the fact that she was Prince's EX wife!! SMDH at this nonsense!!

I see that there is beauty & love & support for her, respect for all if their privacy - & truth in the poetic statement that they "are a family." I feel that what he said was beautiful & made sense to me! I'm surprised by the amount of ppl who don't get how he meant that- not dishonest, but a loving statement
