He summoned Bast just to disagree with everything she says. Killmonger needs to resolve his anger issues. He’s too intellectually and physically strong to be so emotionally weak. It holds him back, keeps him from reaching his full potential.

Killmonger became so intellectually and physically strong BECAUSE he is emotionally weak. That weakness, his anger at his life and the world around him drives him but also limits him. That's a big point of the character.
