Final thought, don't be scared, it is straight forward, I did it solo last year no problem, my first ocean sailing, only used 20 gallons of diesel to Nuku Hiva. And it will rain hard in squalls to collect water.
@TheSailingBrothers

That's fantastic to know. We were wondering how much it will rain as we always collect water at sea. Getting through the doldrums is the main worry then it's in the trades will be straightforward

When I was stationed at Quarry Heights, in 1974, there were people cooking meat on a stick over charcoal coffee cans, on 4th of July Ave. Always bought some on the way back to the barracks.

Another fine video! Don’t forget to use a water resistant feltpen to write the content of your canned food on the end of each can... if the labels fall off due to dampness, you’ll still know what’s in them! Better than random picking 😂 😎

Re sand on steps. Very good idea, nothing is more slippery than water on smooth varnish. Don't just through the sand on everywhere. Mask out the area, I usually just have 2 or 3 strips of sand nicely spaced across the step, can look really professional. Remember KIS keep it simple, and less is moor. Love your video's appreciate all the hard work that goes into them, and very very good luck on crossing the Pacific. What stories you will have to tell.

If the sand is too fierce then use sugar. Once it's dried wash the sugar out with water and you end up with a nice textured non slip that's not going tear your clothes or skin.

thanks for always keeping it real. If you change your mind about crossing the pacific right now, I recommend you head north to the Sea of Cortez in Mexico. It's where I first started sailing and it's incredible sailing grounds. Also once you're done exploring there you can cross to marquesas from La Paz which is what a lot of people do. And if you do decide to cross now then I wish you all the best and hope you have a memorable adventure. Fair winds mates.

You’ve got this guys, the sailing part is easy. You’ve prepared well and you’ve thought of everything so just enjoy. Keep your skin clean to avoid saltwater sores. We washed everyday in a bucket of saltwater and then wiped the salt off using 500ml of fresh water and a flannel. Cook your veggies in saltwater. We sailed for most of it, I think we only motored for less than a week in total. Just keep doing your daily checks on maintenance to stay ahead of things. Just think how proud you will feel when you have achieved this goal. To avoid boredom we used to have a daily speed comp. We would throw orange peel or floating garbage off the bow and time it to the stern. Guessing the time and speed, the loser cooked dinner or some other boring chore. We ran the spinnaker for a whole 7 days at one point. We ran out of cooking gas, so we’re heating tins on the engine, not very effective. Of course we didn’t have all the weather routine electronics that you guys have now but the world hasn’t changed that much. Chafe is your biggest maintenance issues. Sail safe my friends. Sal R38 EOS

Hi Sally Thank you so much for the insight into your amazing passage. Sounds like you had a lot of fun out there and you remember it all 😁. We always cook in salt water offshore and wash ourselves and clothes in it. We have plenty of cooking gas so that shouldn't be a problem. Will keep a good look out for Chafe 👌. How much rain did you have?

First competitors have finished in the golden globe race and one competitor used just 255 litres of water in 230 days at sea. Don’t forget you can catch fish for protein. You only actually need about 70g of protein a day and beans, nuts etc all also have,protein. You’ll be absolutely fine, enjoy.

I know we see a fair number of pacific crossing on YT but in reality its a huge thing done by a tiny number of people. You’ve already done what 99. 9 % of the population of the whole planet will never do .How awesome is that ? Most of the people we see doing big ocean crossings and circumnavigations maybe don’t share their nerves and fears as openly but you can bet your boots they feel them too . I think you should be proud of your achievements and I think you may inspire others , maybe not to sail across an ocean but in other things in life which may be just as massive to them . Keep safe and best wishes .

Hi Guys. I'm an ancient but fairly experienced yachtsman and get my sailing now from KZbin channels. I prefer "sailing" channels and have tried and sacked the blue skies, booze and bikini ones. I came across yours the other day, I enjoyed what I saw and think yours is "relevant". So, I've rewound to EP1 and will take it from there. It looks like there are over 100 so if I get up to date it'll show how much I enjoyed them 😮. I'll let you know now and again how I'm doing. Sail safe, cheers John.

Wow guys such a long way.. will we still hear from you will you be able to send and receive Internet, ?? we do hope so. But what an adventure your going to have. I hope you have all the flavours if bait help to attract the fish because that would be great to catch some good game fish.... do you ever chuck out your boats lead ballast and use 2 litre plastic bottles filled with fresh water then when empty refill with sea water too matain your boats ballast weight. I've done that on mine then I've still got the drinking water and the seawater for ballast once empty.. bet apart from being scared you are both ready for the challenges ahead and what a sailing adventure it's going to be. Fantastic.. look forward for your new adventures.. Tregaron Robert.

Hallo Sailing Brothers, I have total faith in you! You're honest about your worries - but you're both capable, and look how far you've already come... [La Gomera to Martinique is just under 3000 miles, and that's three quarters of this bigger trip - and you've come even further than that, from good old Cardiff Bay😀]. Hope you're feeling better now Luke, and our hearts go with you both across the Pacific👍🌎⛵

It's the sailing equivalent to climbing Everest. And you guys are SO SO SO not out of your depth. I can't imagine two people I would trust more to sail across with little or no troubles. The distance is the only issue... it will be fun. As for the doldrums, sailors have drifted through them for many hundreds of years before they started using engines. I hope to take an electric outboard to help but I would never use up diesel to cross it. I think the Indian and Southern oceans are more scary... it is the sheer scale of the Pacific... all the land in the World will fit in the Pacific with plenty of room to spare... and you look on a globe and it takes up nearly half the entire world.... it is a big arse place and no mistake... but this is the goal. I want to be there within four years from now. Catch up as you come round again! I start a new job later this month whch I really have no great desire to do... but it's the best paying thing I have ever done and every day I work I will be thinking.: this is for the sailing fund.... this is for the sailing fund.
@TheSailingBrothers
@TheSailingBrothers Жыл бұрын
Hi Julian We have got this. It's going to be amazing something we will never forget sailing across the biggest ocean in the world. Not too worried about doldrums they're always seems to be a little bit of a breeze here and there we can pick up. Taking plenty of diesel just in case but we don't want to use the engine it's too noisy and hot. Indian Ocean is vast and can get quite choppy. But the Pacific is the biggest and greatest. It's something definitely to look forward to even though you may not enjoy the job every penny put away is one step closer to your dream. Hopefully we will see you back in the Atlantic on the way round 😁⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵

Thanks guys, I thoroughly enjoyed the glimpse into your planning. I hope I didn't contribute to your anxieties with my questions about NZ in winter, I since found an overview of stormy seasons in the different regions and it's not the worst place to be, albeit rather cold. When I think about how I'd be daunted by the vastness when my time comes, I remind myself that it's called the Pacific for a reason. On the other hand, there's talk of El Niño, how does that affect trades?

Hi Steffen Thought you enjoyed the episode and a brief look into our planning. You didn't worry us about New Zealand we are super looking forward to visiting. It's the biggest ocean in the world and super excited to start sailing it. I don't see how El nino is going to affect our crossing 😁
