Wow that was rough sailing and when the boom shifted to starboard it turned the whole boat and that had to have been scary. I think those swarming birds were looking for a hand out of 2 Brothers BoatMade Bread. 😁 The camera on the anchor was a great shot and then the fish checking it out. 😄

This one had my heart racing guys. Mind you, Atlas seemed to take it all in her stride and your seamanship and decision making matched it. It reminded me of a passage we made many years ago from Plymouth to Alderney in strong winds and bouncy conditions. We dropped the sails and pointed to boat into Alderney harbour, straight into the oncoming waves. One wave lifted the boat out of the water with only the prop and rudder left in. The bow crashed down the others side, sending shudders throughout the entire boat. A hairy and memorable moment. Big seas are not to be underestimated.

the fisherman probably share with them so when they see boats they check to see if there is a meal coming their way. But they say birds that visit you while off shore sailing they are angels of loved one long gone coming to check on you and pay you a visit. Sometime you get one that is exhausted, you need to let them rest and tend to their needs as best you can. This makes God smile when you take care of his children, and they may be an angel on a journey.

Love Rival yachts. Used to charter them in my younger days. These days I have an old Hans Christian, a design I can recommend if you ever upgrade.

Well done guys, that looked pretty sporty! Regarding preventing your sails from flogging, that's absolutely correct so I wonder why you always seem to leave your mainsail "bunt" loose when you've reefed. A few reef ties would sort that out - or a stack pack.

You videos bring back some good (and at times, challenging) memories. One suggestion, if you don't mind: You'll have at least one reef in your Rival's main frequently, and you'll find the nip of the reef's outhaul line (where it passes through the reef's clew) will 'wear' a bit, no matter how tight you draw back the clew's line. Chafe becomes inevitable. An option is to tie in your reef as normal and then pass a small piece of line thru that reef's clew and around the boom, then secure it tightly. At that point, release a bit of tension on the reef's outhaul. After that all the wear will develop on the scrap of small stuff that's holding the reef in place. Yes, it's another step...but it saves the whole reefing line from wear.

Those birds must have spotted your Dairy Lea platter :) or they we're trying warn you to put your life jackets on in 30 knots. My blood pressure was racing seeing you without safety gear on. Please. :) Selfishly I didn't realise how much my heart was racing until Adam said "we set the sails and put some safety gear on I think",, oh what a relief to hear that, .....but you didn't. ( only because I care, not to be Mr Jobworths) Great video.

Well done lads !! Atlas is tough boat she just loves to prove it in heavy conditions turning back was a wise choice why put all that strain on the sails and rigging when you can sit in a comfy anchorage and relax after a fun day out

Exciting sailing for a tough boat and crew. Been there, with the sheet following the Genoa. The worst part was trying to recover it without being lashed to pieces. Your footage is fantastic.

A very exciting day sailing 😁 That's right when you lose your sheet trying to recover it it's like being whipped to death

Another genuinely exhilarating episode from the boys. Your growing experience and confidence are evident in the way you discuss the weather, sail plans, and other challenges. Thrilling to watch. I think the birds were after the cheese sandwich.
