if I had to guess, I'd say ya'll got chiggers. It seems to pop up when you've been on a massive hike in the bush. A chigger, is a tiny bug that burrows under your skin. Some folks don't get them, or rather, some folks aren't affected by them, just like some folks aren't affected by poison ivy or poison oak. Again, the reason I think its chiggers is cause it always happens when you've been smashing around the bush. Next time ya'll go for a hike, use a decent bug spray repellent on your legs. Might work. Great episode boys! You 2 are an inspiration.
@TheSailingBrothers2 күн бұрын

By now you will be long gone and probably in Australia, but just in case not, you really should make a not-quite-legal stop in Chesterfield Reef inbetween Vanuatu and Australia. It is controlled by New Caledonia but the French there are well occupied with unrest so cannot be bothered by someone visiting the reef system. The anchorage is obvious and the birds are off the charts. That's what I did. Just don't stop in any Australian territory on the way across, they don't like that. I checked into Bundaberg, and if you arrive early you can anchor next to the marina, but be sure to email the ABF or they will be unhappy with you, as they were with me and subjected my boat to a 2-hour intensive search.

@@TheSailingBrothers I'm self taught, I recommend a book, : Celestial navigation for yachtsmen, Mary Blewitt, and also KZbin channel, Practical Navigator, celestial navigation playlist. One of the most satisfying disciplines I've ever learned. No GPS, no problem.
@philgray1023Күн бұрын
@@andypdqI'd like to learn that. I have a good sextant but no horizon within an hours drive. We normally carry ten devices with built in GPS. We have two mounted GPS antenna and one spare. But you never know. However when I was doing my Coastal Skipper training the candidates all had to take compass bearings and manually plot a position on the chart. The range of positions was up to 5 miles different. Noteably the training was all done without access to electronic charts. Very worrying when you find yourselves about to run into a sea wall at night because of confusion about adding or subtracting variation.
@andypdq23 сағат бұрын
@@philgray1023 You can practice on land, Google "Sextant artificial horizon" you can buy one or make one, I made one out of some plywood, two pieces of glass and an oven roasting tin, which is filled with viscous gear oil. If you use water it's prone to shimmering if there's any wind getting in. You have to divide your observed sextant angle by two to get the correct altitude. On land I can normally get within half a mile of my true position, the doubling of the observed angle makes it more accurate than you would get if you use a sea horizon. At sea I am normally within four miles, which is more than good enough to avoid hazards or make a safe landfall. All I'd say is you need to practice often to avoid making mistakes when applying corrections and doing the calculations, I don't mind because I'm a geek and actually enjoy doing it. Good luck!
