I'm also a Liberal in East TN, just northeast of Knoxville, and I can commiserate with the first caller. It's beautiful here, but you can throw a rock in any direction and be sure to hit a Republican. But there is Blue interspersed. I'd advise the caller to follow The Tennessee Holler, a reader-supported progressive news site. It's important for us to stay and present another perspective to the dominant view.

@Bob Nevels good god, this is red flag city Not even gonna engage, I feel like you have a lot of things going on, believe whatever you want, I just think empathy is critical to human connection rather than *whatever this is* I also genuinely don’t believe you understand the severity of other peoples plights since you’re removed from it, so to speak on how they should feel about what they went through is extremely rude and dismissive, as I said, I wouldn’t dare diminish the holocaust because I know it was awful, but I truly don’t know the depths of how awful it was, so I don’t speak on it, it’s that simple.

It’s not about that. It’s not about “not being able to be happy when your friends succeed”. And it’s not about ‘having a horrible life’. It’s about exactly what he said; not having any joy from within. Always having to be outside of yourself. I'm actually the person who left that voicemail. You were able to understand what I was trying to say. I didn't mean to imply that I don't have joy for my friends or family when they succeed, or that I take the good things in my life for granted.
