Hovering: Everytime I enter Macy’s to test a new scent, I’m bombarded by 3 people asking if I need anything before I even get to look. Typically, by the time I’m going to the store, I’ve done my due diligence and have researched the heck out of the notes of the perfume, read tons of reviews, watched tons of videos on it, and know who has the best sales. I know the sales people don’t know that but I get very irritated when they spray a test strip and just wait to see what I’m going to do. It makes me very uncomfortable. I work in healthcare, strong perfumes should not be worn, if at all. The only perfume I’ve found that is very inoffensive and hypoallergenic is JHAG “Not a Perfume”. I’ve worn it for five years now and patients absolutely love it and compliment me nonstop. It’s such a minimalist soft warm clean inviting scent that works perfectly in a clinical setting. I used to like Philosophy Amazing Grace for its soapy clean scent but it could still be very overpowering.

It was partially due to the fact that I worried about offending people - such as those with sensory issues/allergies/migraines, etc. So I appreciate your video! I love this video and i have to share one of the worst experiences i had while purchasing a fragrance from none other than shoppers drug mart beauty boutique. With fragrances, just like you mentioned, we need time, we need the freedom, we need to try many many scents before we can decide, and i was doing that when this numb mind assistant came and asked me “are you going to buy something?” And i was like what the hell. What do you care? Did i ask for your help? I am here exploring scents that YOU YOURSELF have put as TESTERS. So what’s your problem? Do i HAVE TO BUY NOW? I mean it was so rude, it ruined my whole day and i just wanted to leave without buying anything when i actually did like elizabeth arden white tea. Thanks to the dumb sales person who ruined a customer’s experience so yeah if you work in that realm please don’t do that.

Great points in this video 👍! People overspraying their fragrance is one of my biggest pet peves. I have my own space at work. Not long ago someone visited me and I immediately recognized the person wearing Baccarat Rouge 540. The person talked to me for a while and hugged me twice before leaving. Their scent not only lingered in and around my office for hours after, but I could smell it on myself for the rest of the day. Not that I dislike BR 540, it is a great unique scent, but I was wearing my own perfume that day and it felt like someone else's fragrance forced its way into my personal space and took over. This turned me off from wearing BR540 for a long time. Another perfume pet peve of mine would be going out on a date with a guy who uses too much fragrance. I love it when a man smells groomed and looks polished, but not when his fragrance is competing with mine.

Yana thank you so much for addressing the harassing sales people issue! I’ve been wondering if you’d ever bring up that subject! I agree with you 100% on that. That’s the main reason why I try not to go to fragrance section of department stores as much as I love sniffing fragrances, because those sales people just won’t leave you alone even after you made it clear to them that you do not need help and you’re just window shopping! By the way, how do you deal with those clingy salesmen?

I know, and it's so unfortunate because I'm pretty sure they are trained that way or instructed to do so by higher-ups who know nothing about a correct, gentle sales approach which is so important in certain environments. Another pet peeve, if you have time to edit is, women break their hair when they spray alcohol based parfum in their hair brush, sure, spray the brush but wait until the alcohol dries down. I have large twitter accounts, I don't want everyone knowing my perfume collection which is over 300, counting oils I am around 500. Yana, Thank you for your platform, OP emailed me this morning to replace a bottle. If not for you, I would have remained ignored. I though 5 was likely over spraying unless it's a Jo Malone or something ultra light. 😅 I agree about it being rude for someone to spray, use or touch a fragrance without asking first unless it's offered by the host and owner of the fragrances. Knowing when and were to wear fragrance is vital to being able to wear fragrance in public. People need to be considerate. Thanks for sharing your tips. It should be common sense... But... They enjoy it and so do I.

I'm not sure tbh, it has never really bothered me if a friend wears the same fragrance as me. I'm usually the one who introduced them to it so if I recognize their scent I say "heyyyy, wearing _____(fill in the blank)? it's a good one! 😉" but if it bothers you, I would probably just say "that fragrance smells great, I love it too!" and then I'd just wear something different around that person 🤷🏻♀️
