@@Shining-Star- No near death experience but a waking 'dream' state after many months of infection and isolation: a meadow full of flowers, insects, birds and animals with Mozart Miserere singing over all. All senses incredibly heightened and an experience never forgotten. I always attributed it to a brain starved of sensation other than pain. As to greater intuition - I would not claim that, but massive gratitude!!!

I live in the Hebrides, this is not uncommon. Lairds (landowners) can do what they want. Your accommodation is tied to your work which means no job no home. Retirement means you have no home also. My advice would be get accommodation separate from work. It gives you more security and make sure you have contract of employment. People think life in the Hebrides is some kind of fairytale, it is not. Life in the Hebrides is a conscious decision and a lot of hard work. It’s not for most people but it is for me.

My uncle went back to his grandfather village bought a small crofters cottage on a shared road . The planing requirements was if the cottage was demolished a new road would have to be built Up to the property from the main road . The gravel road went ¾ of the way to the other house and my uncle was responsible for the majority of the access . He bought a 4x4 and had no issues with the road he didn't demolish and rebuild so the requirement to build a new road didn't apply . The neighbor who originally owned the land and croft was hoping for a new access road when my uncle didn't redo the road the other land owner who shared the road made my uncle life impossible. He put the house on the market and it sold within weeks and moved on some issues you can't resolve its better to just move on

Fingers and several other bits crossed that you can move in right away. BTW those can't possibly be lime trees in the front of Hillcroft. They're too big. You'd never fit them in the coconut.

You know, Scott, I like this much better than the island as well! It's so lovely and once you get things cleared away in the yard, some flowers sown around, the windows open with lovely curtains trailing about the breeze, it will feel much more like home than your current area. There will be lovely neighbors to share with and I feel it will be a permanent home. Congratulations!! Katie, please don't worry about the travel details. There's so much hope for the future here! Soon you'll be able to leave the island and you won't have to have the emotional trauma of being treated so badly by people whom you wanted to trust. That's always so shocking -- to be treated unfairly when you've done nothing wrong. It's wrenching. But you will soon recover as you move to Hill Croft and start afresh. I am so sorry you are having to go through this. You both have strength to make it through this and know that it will be better on the other side. The Big 4 for consideration practically are in order! 1. Access Ease. 2. Water. 3. Ability to heat and associated supplies/availability. 4. Power. Everything else can be achieved if those 4 are sorted by whatever means. Contingencies are sort of important but I guess they would broadly be: Transport, Emergency situations planning and weather influence with associated planning. The Homestead looks to be exposed and maybe a factor? There are a lot of potential benefits here. Principled owner, beautiful location, clean slate and a supportive community. Good Luck. If you were to run the water from the downpipes to a soakaway or just downside of the cottage it would help with the damp too. Big selling point for this part of Scotland is that its a midge free zone!
