Scott &Katie I think it maybe time to move on, I have watched you from the start of your journey, and have loved it, you have been so entertaining and knowledgeable but I have watched you struggle and it has aged you, I think the solitude has had an affect on your health, with an ungrateful landlord who is going to undo all your good work , I say find a new project we will still be here supporting you.❤️

Hello from a fellow Grimbarian, although I now live on the other side of Louth. I have spent the last couple of weeks working through all of your videos, starting at No.1. Fascinating stuff. I spent four years (way back, in the mid 60's) living on a Hebridean island, so this is a wonderful way for me to relive some of my own experiences. I wish you all the very best with what is to come. Stay strong, don't lose heart.

I’m so sorry to hear of the news regarding the restoration of the cottage. After all the work and progress you two have made over the past year and a bit, it use be very disheartening. Wishing you luck with your attempts to carry on the way it should be done. Hopefully Historic Scotland and some of the other agencies can help in this endeavour.

Lumberjack from Grimsby……brilliant It’s beyond me why when 2 people want to do the right thing to a building, then someone wants to come in and basically vandalise a historic building… You are breathing life back into it,and giving it a soul again… Some have no idea of retaining history… I’m totally on your side to restore it correctly

The opening sounds of today's episode made me immediately think of the hymn "This Is My Father's World" " All nature sings and round me rings, the music of the spheres." Document everything Dampness vs stone walls. That the “fix will exacerbate the dampness. Everything you discussed on the clip Keep your cool. Be factual and reasonable in your comments and communication with the “authorities “. Don’t let emotions cloud your factual communications. 1. Ask questions. What is their thinking/reasoning for these changes. 2. How can you mitigate the problem. And so on. I’m really empathetic with your plight!! I wish you all the luck and success in resolving this!!!!

Re: the damp/water issue.. Drill a well 2 ft down at the lowest point of the trench, and drop a submersible pump in it that automatically drains the water when it hits a certain level? This method is widely used in the Netherlands (hence the abundance of windmills) - and we should know a thing or two about water, being 16 meters (48 ft!) below sea level at several points.. If you need a drawing that's easily done - I admit, easier than drilling said well. By the way... you guys are living my dream - just know that there is no such thing as problems.. approach them as challenges..:)

Your videos are getting more beautiful each week. Am devastated at the news regarding the cottage but surely with the conservation agencies help something can be done. I wish more folks had the heart and soul for restoration instead of renovation. Perhaps then there would be more builders around using old skills and crafts rather than just bricks, mortar and plasterboard! Let’s hope you find the help needed for the cottage’s sake … and yours of course

The important thing at present is to remain positive and be considered in your thoughts and deeds. Until the chimney is fixed and flashed you will continue to have damp at that stove location, its priority No1. The gable wall will have a solution but it needs to have your planned input. Your stonemason should be able to provide you with his considered scope of work based on his long experience. Also request a written detailed scope of work from the builder who is to undertake the work, with these you can at least start to negotiate. What is definitely unadvisable is for work to start without a detailed and considered and agreed scope of work because this is likely to be counter productive and consequently uneconomic in the event of remediation. It seems that the proposed work has not been seen or surveyed in-situ by the builder, highly unusual? Is the builder guaranteeing the work? If the builder is undertaking the work on the chimney, again request a written scope of work and a guarantee. Do not be put off with the use of modern materials and techniques they have their place but you need to know how they are to be deployed and they should be used sympathetically with the buildings history. Is it a listed building?
