That cannibalism argument tho 🔥 It’s ancestral, it’s natural, it’s happened for a long time, it’s cultural, it provides jobs, protein, it’s legal, animals do it, morality is subjective, helps fight overpopulation, humans die in crop fields, B12, no seed oils. Gold, just gold.

On a serious note, every non vegan talks about crop deaths. What about all of billions of sea turtles, sharks, dolphins and all of the other sea animals that die in massive fishing or all of the foxes, wolves, weasels, badgers and all of the other predatory animals that are killed to protect all of the herds and flocks of sheep, goats, chickens etc. Does anyone have an environmental study about them or are they non existing like the ones about crop deaths?
@weirdunclebob11 ай бұрын
They don't care. They're just trying to label us as hypocrites. There's at least one study on crop related deaths and it showed that most animals (including insects) get out of the way of loud, noisy, heavy machinery like combine harvesters so the death toll is actually pretty low. Common sense, really, but most carnists gave that up a long time ago when it comes to their lifestyle!
@geraltofrivia58611 ай бұрын
@@weirdunclebob oh yes the mice caught by combine engines off course. Remember all of the people having mice infestation problems and they could catch them with their bear hands easily because mice are so slow and easy to catch? You don't? me neither. So those mice and rats and squirrels that are impossible to catch because they are afraid of everything are the same mice that will sit idle when a slow moving and loud combine is going their way.

“Cannibalism may have been so common in prehistory as to have affected our evolution: our genomes contain genes that appear to be defenses against the prion diseases transmitted by cannibalism.[⁴¹] All this is consistent with eyewitness accounts, such as this transcription by a missionary of a Maori warrior taunting the preserved head of an enemy chief: ¶ “You wanted to run away, did you? But my war club overtook you. And after you were cooked, you made food for my mouth. And where is your father? He is cooked. And where is your brother? He is eaten. And where is your wife? There she sits, a wife for me. And where are your children? There they are, with loads on their backs, carrying food, as my slaves.”[⁴²]_” - Steven Pinker, _The Better Angels of Our Nature_ “Essentially, then, as European adventurers, missionaries, and colonists were condemning the indigenous people they encountered for practicing cannibalism, their own rulers and countrymen in Europe were consuming human body parts to a degree and at a rate that would have made Hannibal Lecter proud.” - Bill Schutt, _Cannibalism: A Perfectly Natural History_ Human cannibalism is still happening on a daily basis in a few places-Liberia being the most famous example. Not only do humans (including children) cannibalize on corpses they find in the streets out of hunger and desperation (and sometimes slaughter alive humans), moreover some even practice child sacrifice-parents/family members willingly/gladly give their babies up for ritual sacrifice to cannibals for what they believe to be important spiritual benefits/special powers like: good luck, mental toughness, courage, an edge over their enemies. Check the Vice documentary on Liberia. [ kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIPYhIZmns55r9Em37s ]

@@Poalpina what happens when someone breaks a vegan religious law are they subject to attacks from the community or are they forgiven?
@someguy281910 ай бұрын
@@TheNoticer12 Firstly, that doesn't make veganism a religion. Secondly, that depends on what you consider an 'attack' on you, since I assume you see any form of criticism as an attack. I mean, you do realise that most vegans weren't born vegans, right? So obviously you're capable of being forgiven. However, why should we forgive you for actions that you're actively continuing to make? It's like forgiving someone for continuously choosing to steal your things without ever apologising or making an effort to change their behaviour. Forgiveness can only come when there is genuine remorse and effort to make amends, which you clearly lack.
@TheNoticer1210 ай бұрын
@@someguy2819 gotcha so it's like most religions you must kneel at the altar and ask for forgiveness but if you don't truly mean it or change your actions it doesn't count. That's a fairly common religious practice. And no man I don't care about criticism at all I don't have any religious dietary restrictions.
@someguy281910 ай бұрын
@@TheNoticer12 Bro, what are you on right now? If someone is beating their wife continuously, if I don't instantly forgive them because they refuse to make an effort to change their behaviour, would that be a religion too? A religion is the belief in and worship of a superhuman power or powers, especially a God or gods, not mild similarities to basic empathy and forgiveness. Forgiveness is not a religious concept just because it can be seen in religion.

I’m interested in your stance on animal personhood. My only opposition to it would be that non-human animals are not intelligent enough to be moral agents, but you could say that about some humans.
@flattlandermontgomery152411 ай бұрын
I don't know how he will answer, but I think that's where the name the trait argument comes in, because there are many humans that have mental and physical disabilities and people still say they would never hurt or eat them of course, so what is the trait then, that makes it ok to eat an animal that is not ever applicable to humans or vice versa. The rights that animals should have are described as negative rights, different from human rights. For example the right not to be killed or abused, or exploited.
@indef2def11 ай бұрын
I don't think that personhood is even remotely the same as moral agency. Personhood just requires strands of subjective experience that are sufficiently causally connected over time. Some non-human animals (especially highly social mammals) seem to have simpler versions of the human form of moral agency, but many more animals have personhood.
