Cheap Lazy Vegan When asked the protein question I simply flip the question back at them. You eat meat to get protein right? Where do you think that animal got their protein? From plants, from producers, because producers contain all the necessary nutrients for life (even B12 if you eat fresh veggies from your garden or farmers market) and consumers eat those nutrients. I also like to inform them how the food chain works. They're eating a consumer, who only received 1/4th of the nutrients found in that animal, whereas I as a vegan, eat the producer and get 1/4 of those nutrients. We actually receive double the nutrients or more by eating the producer directly vs. going up the food chain

I've been vegan for like 3 years and my family went from it's a phase to consuming less meat to my mom considering going vegan herself. People do change, we change our minds all the time. I personally LOVED the taste of meat, and my former boss was your typical American dad with the cook outs and everything and we both gave it up for a better purpose. It's possible! Slowly but surely we'll get there..

On the eating meat is natural argument, a lot of people try to point back to caveman days. They ate meat. But they are missing some major points. Cavemen had to hunt to get meat and it was dangerous. They also ate a lot of plants and only had meat when they had a successful hunt. Their lives were also so different from ours. We have technology. Eating animals is no longer necessary for us. Not to mention the horrible things we do to animals. Cavemen did not abuse animals like we do.
@bobsinclair6
@bobsinclair6 6 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Most of the people who use the "meat is natural" argument would not be able to hunt and catch their own meat. Like Rose said, factory farming is not natural at all, and I think even the most staunch meat eater would agree when shown modern factory farming in practice. Cavemen never put animals in cages, artificially inseminated them, killed male chicks in blenders at birth to fuel an egg industry etc. The "lions eat other animals too so it's natural" argument is even worse because no animal raises and keeps locked up other animals to eat later. That is so very not natural.
@darkchocopuff1510
@darkchocopuff1510 6 жыл бұрын
I raised chickens for 10 years for meat and aggs so how would you know that I will torture em, kill male chicks and stuffed them into small cages when you never see me do it? Why you think I MUST do such things just because I am an animal farmer? The reasons I hate vegans is when they watch videos of factory farms inhumane practices and start to judge every single farmers in this world were doing same horrible thing like that. So let me ask, can I say EVERY vegans are hypocrites when some of them still go buy cute fluffy kittens from Petshop when there are already countless ones waiting in the shelterhome for adoption? There are also militant vegans like Freele who wished death upon meat eaters so can I say EVERY vegans are the same shitheads like her? No? LOL.
@bobsinclair6
@bobsinclair6 6 жыл бұрын
Thats not the point I was making. I was talking about people who say "lions do it, so it is natural". Factory farming isnt natural, and neither is regular farming either. If you want to be "like a lion" then you need to hunt, kill and eat wild animals without storage and processing and farming etc. Also, as others have pointed out, we do not do a lot of things animals like lions do, despite being natural. Instead of arguing nature, I think most vegans would just prefer if we made our life choices with animal welfare in mind. We have the technology and the ability to go vegan, so there is no reason why we shouldnt. Furthermore, your personal experience being an animal farmer does not excuse the MAJORITY of animals and animal products people consume in the world. Most of the meat people eat in the world is factory farmed. And even the grass fed, field raised animals are killed inhumanely, at a very early age etc. Most grass fed and field raised animal farming involves killing male calves and male chicks as it is not sustainable for milk and egg production. This is a known fact. Cows need to be kept pregnant for most of their life, and their calves need to be taken away so that we can get milk. Male chicks do not contribute to the egg industry and are killed right away. This is just the reality of the egg industry. It is almost impossible financially to be a highly profitable egg farmer if you do not kill male chicks or get rid of them somehow at hatching. This is what happens in the MAJORITY of the meat, dairy and egg industries. It is profitable, and it is how it is done whether you like it or not. If ALL factory farming was abolished, and calves were prohibited to be taken away from milking cows, and milking cows were not artificially inseminated, and male chicks were not killed at birth, and all animals were not tortured and put in cages, then meat, dairy and egg prices would go up, and production would not be able to keep up with demand. Thats just a fact of modern life. Factory farmers are not some evil animal hating psychopaths, they are just doing what is most profitable to them to produce as much milk and eggs, and meat as possible to meet with demand. The vegan goal is to remove that demand so that factory farming does not need to happen anymore. Also, the end point of your humanely raised and untortured animals is still death. Death of a sentient feeling being is never excused. Most westerners frown upon the consumption of dogs and cats even if you dont put them in cages, and torture them. Most of humanity is against the killing and consumption of human beings even if you farm them without torture and stuffing them in cages. So why are cows, chickens and pigs an exception to this rule?

bobsinclair6 first, have you grow all your vegs, grains, fruits and nuts for all year consumption before you suggest me go hunting for my own meat? Well if you want to make up one go ahead but I can tell if it lies or not. Did you get your own lettuce, nuts and beans from forest without need to clear the land and farm it first? LOL. Have you ignore the fact that not all freakin lands in this world were made fertile to grow cheap grains and vegs, hence is why some people go animal farming for a living? Also you probably have some of your food imported and taken from other countries. Yeah that is much natural than buying meat from the locals. I used to grow some vegs and grains couple of years ago. Bananas and rice 3 months, potatoes 2 months and lettuce 50 days. So guess what I am gonna eat with less to no money in my hands while waiting for them to grow? Sure I keep some rice from last harvest as food stock but that isn't not gonna make me survive. Well guess what? I ate my backyard chickens and their eggs is what I sell to support my live. Go figure why farmers who grow your vegs and grains aren't vegan? Go ask them politely has they ever kill anything while growing those plants? Anyway, I stop selling vegs because they ain't profitable at all. They are cheap. You need to have a large piece of land for growing vegs or else you are gonna live in shitty poor life with small income. Don't talk about moral of eating brainless animals with me nor asking me to go hunting if you are just some vegan snowflakes or soyboy who only know tossing fruits and vegs into your carts and call it a day. Well I bet you can't even make it through winter without your precious wallmart to supply your vegs and grains. Nice chat but I had to stop my roosters from fighting, it is normal thing for chickens but I can't bear see any of them get pecked brutally to death. Yea dumb animals don't know how to live peacefully and here you vegans are fighting so hard for their lives(sarcasm).
@bobsinclair6

Its almost like you didnt read what I had to say. My conclusion wasnt that eating vegan is more natural, it was that most aspects of modern life arent natural, therefore it its pointless to argue for nature, and that we should use technology and all modern convenience to live our lives in the best way possible without causing unnecessary harm to animals. Thats all I said. Anyway, I can see you are resorting to name calling, so I will just wish you a nice day.

@fabfourfever674

crazywaffleking I'm vegan, and I agree. There are many examples of very militant, judgemental vegans (at least in the comments that I sometimes see), and it sets a bad example for the lifestyle. 😞 Not all of us are like that, though..and it could be that it *seems* like we all are because KZbin gives *anyone* a platform to express themselves..and there are too many "keyboard warriors", but that also happens on the *other* side. I've seen comments from omnivores who troll vegan channels and spew hatred for no other reason than the fact that they feel threatened. But yeah, there is evidence of militancy on both sides, and it doesn't help. I don't play that "card", though. I'm the only vegan in my family and it's cool. It's not for me to judge when I grew up eating animal products, myself. There's so much hypocrisy it's not even funny. How can some vegans be so judgemental when they used to do the very thing they're angrily judging? 😲😳 As for Freelee, she's a basketcase. 😂 I *never* liked her attitude even *before* I went vegan, and I don't think she helps the movement at all. She doesn't represent vegans, in general, though. She's just an example of someone who twisted her compassion into something ugly and hateful towards humans. How horrible, and not the best role model. Anyway, I hope you see that we're not all like that. Peace. 😊 xx

I am slowly transitioning to veganism, which is better than no transition, right? I tried to do it "cold turkey" at first. Obviously that didn't work, but I have been able to cut out meat - that part was pretty easy for me as I was actually always quite grossed out about eating meat, just thinking about where it came from etc. And right after that I discovered almond milk (aka my new best friend!) So I suppose I'm a vegetarian now...? Needless to say, your recipes and videos have been incredibly encouraging and motivating to keep me on this journey! Thanks, from BC!

The average American eats about 222 pounds of meat a year and I have been vegetarian for 6 years. Thats 1,332 pounds of meat I didn't eat. Ever since I went vegetarian my whole family greatly reduced the amount of meat consumption and actually started eating a lot healthier because I introduced so much more vegetables and ways to cook them. We went to places with more vegetarian options, we couldn't go to All You can eat korean bbq anymore etc. I started cooking for myself and introducing them to vegetarian dishes. My mom is now comfortable eating at vegan restaurants with me. I got my very picky brother hooked onto veggie patties because they are so flavorful and he can get extra veggies in and its so easy to just put into sandwiches. Now that I am on my own I have been eating vegan and have lost a total of 12 pounds and my abs are coming along very well!

Caroline, I'm so sorry for what your Aunt puts you through. It's not right. 😞🙇 Being vegan is your choice..and as long as you're not judging anyone else's actions, no one should be judging yours. If you can, I'd tell her that you don't appreciate her disrespecting your lifestyle and that her remarks are very hurtful to you. If she continues to bully you, maybe you can get a trusted family member involved, someone who honors your lifestyle. The last resort would be to just avoid her altogether. Life is too short, and some people are too toxic to be around (I know. I have toxic family members, too). Take care of you, hon'. 😘 XOXO

I love how vegans get grilled about where this nutrient or that one comes from in our diet... but if you ask most omnis, they wouldn't be able to say what their meal consisted of except "protein and calcium." There is a general lack of nutrition knowledge among them and somehow that qualifies them to comment on the diet of others. IDGI, honestly.

My vegan transition story is just like yours. Also, this is not 100% a veganism thing, but it is somewhat related: "Soy is bad for you! It causes ___." Um, ok, but literally all of Asia exists and they're the healthiest people on the planet? Soy has been a staple in many Asian nations for countless centuries. Soy is absolutely safe unless you're intolerant or allergic. Edited to add: This would be a great topic, actually!

Great job, Rose. The thing about humans is our brains tend to think up rational or pseudo-rational justifications for decisions that were already made at an emotional level. In the case of not going vegan it's usually fear of change or social pressures. If you can appeal to people's emotions that is more powerful than refuting the arguments.

omg that's one of the worst! Can't believe I forgot that one lol. I think the best response is that just because someone decided to breed you for a specific purpose doesn't mean that they have the right to take away your rights/freedoms as a sentient being. If I was bred and raised to be a slave, that wouldn't make the slavery right. Slavery is wrong, no matter what system there is in place.

@vegan How could a compassionate human eat, feed (or encourage another) another human being food grown in cancer (fertilizers are a class 1 carcinogen). That food is produced by the exploitation of children (plant agriculture accounts for 70% of all child labor) and with the use of pesticides, which kills over 64 million birds annual alone in the US. Then transport those plant products using oil. Where you as the consumer leaves your oil powered home to the oil powered store in your oil powered transportation to buy your plant products grown, packaged and transported using cancer and oil. You buy these products using "fiat currency". You support the killing of animals and the exploitation of children at every level of production all the way down the grocery store who also profits off the selling of animal products. Bravo, a real win for the practical reduction of animal harm and exploitation.

You are right honey, and that is the TRUTH! I became vegan in January, but it was a 7 year journey that started in May of 2010 when at age 52 I was diagnosed with CHF (Congestive Heart Failure). I had to change my ways or be dead. The L-rd said no you are not coming home yet (My father died of CHF at age 58, in 1983), and though I thought CHF was a death sentence, as it was for my father, the L-rd send me the education, people and wisdom to heal. BUT, yes, it was also a big transition for me. I love being vegan though, and will never go back. BTW my CHF is healed and cured! Thank you for sharing your insights, I do love your show and my fave recipe were the nori sandwiches. But I love all your stuff. Making it all slowly but surely. G-d bless!

On top of the responses you gave to the argument "plants feel pain", I also regularly answer this: You say plants feel pain, but do your daily actions actually reflect this belief? For instance, let's assume your neighbor is mowing their front lawn. How do you react? Do you feel appalled? Do you intervene in some way to stop this plant cruelty? What about if your neighbor was cutting up a live dog on their front lawn? Needless to say, you would intervene in some way because it is apparent that the dog is suffering. This shows that those who use this argument are not actually concerned with plants, but rather that they are discomforted by vegans. P.S. thank you for this great video! 😊

I agree with everything you are saying except for the part about plants not feeling pain. I have watched many videos and read many books on this topic. They have done research that plants indeed do feel pain and when a plant is damaged it sends electrical signals to the root system that causes shock and can stunt the plants grow. These signals replicate the same electrical signals that a humans body sends to the brain when you are burned or injured. Studies have also shown that negative energy, language or treatment of a plant can cause it to wilt, lose growth or leaves and not thrive. These are the beings that clean our air, produce our oxygen, provide us shelter and shade, and give us food. Everything deserves respect even plants.

8:28 I agree that in a physical level, plants don’t feel anything, but on a spiritual level they most likely do. However, for a lot of human history, people have been eating plants while believing spirits inhabited them. They always made sure to give their thanks for the food to the plants and animals and land. It’s not natural or good or healthy to have a diet with little to no plants in it. Overconsumption of meat and underconsumption of plants is what leads to chronic constipation, which lots of Americans suffer from, and can lead to colon cancer.

I couldn’t agree with you more on this, it is astonishing what people are willing to believe so that they do not have to change their ways and habits. I just wish, if this is indeed targeted towards non-vegans in order to inform them, that your explanations/answers were a little less sarcastic and snarky. Trust me, I get it, it is difficult not to feel that way. But I think it might turn some people off from watching this video and actually listening to what you have to say. Most people believe these things because they were brought up with these beliefs, as you said, we have all been there. Therefore it is unfair to make non-vegans seem ignorant and uncaring for using these arguments. What a ramble, sorry!

I normally don't comment on KZbin videos but I just wanted to say how much I appreciate this video!! I'm only 18 years old and it is so hard to transition at such a young age with no family members being/becoming vegan or having any desire to do so. I fin it very hard to "argue" with people about veganism especially within family since I don't want to come off as rude or just ignorant for wanting to express my feeling towards "non-vegan-lifestyle".. I find videos like this very helpful to at least try to open the eyes of people around me. Maybe you could do a video on how to kind of talk to non vegans/ vegetarians (especially within the own family) about "their meat consumption" in general or even bring it up in the first place without being "the annoying person who just wants to argue" Ps. I absolutely love your chanel and appreciate your videos a ton, they really helped me starting my transition!! Lots of love and support from Germany!!!

You do not need to justify yourself, just tell your friends and family that you do not view animals as food anymore and that you love all animals. Thats it, I'm sure they will understand. :) Good luck, it gets better with time, I promise! xxxx
