Why cant the lizards just eat them? That's a really cool example of carbon transfer in our circle of life. I would like to be eaten by some animal or buried with no casket when I die, so that my body can return to the dust it came from. It's really quite selfish how we hoard the dead and lock them up in boxes. Giving your body back to the universe is an ultimate sign of respect and gratitude. What do you care anyways, you'll be dead!

Another thought... although the alligator snapping turtle is huge, it is actually far LESS aggressive than the common snapping turtle. A full grown common snapping turtle isn't nearly as large, but it is STILL a BIG turtle and can do some serious damage.

As someone who has multiple tortoises it is very clear you haven't kept them, I've got three and non can be safely kept together. Two fight each other so the victor can basically rape the third one to death. I've pretty much had a version of this happen, combined with the fact I as I later found out my oldest surviving tortoise carries a harmless to his species form of tortoise herpes. I ended up with a pet that can give any other species of tortoise the tortoise version of HIV.Seriously I actually recommend a ball python as a pet over a tortoise or turtle. Having kept both the python is less dangerous.Think for a minute - I bought a cute little tortoise and basically ended up with a pet that basically can sex any other species of tortoise to death.

Just to clear up some misinformation in this video that I am aware of... It is true that the Gila Monster is the only venomous lizard in the world (the Mexican Beaded Lizard is also venomous but they are essentially the same species). Now to clear up the erroneous information put forth in this video - Gila Monster venom is primarily defensive and not meant for killing. It is designed to produce instant searing pain on a level that will convince an attacking predator to immediately abandon its effort to kill the Monster. It is EXTREMELY RARE that a human dies from a Gila Monster bite. The very few who have died are either allergic to the proteins in the venom (as some rare individuals are to bee stings), or have a heart health problem and the severity of the pain causes a heart attack. Otherwise, any and all normal healthy people bit by a Gila Monster will live to tell the tale - and will never, ever forget the extreme severity of the pain that is inflicted by the bite of a Gila Monster. I might also add that unlike venomous snakes, Gila Monsters are quick to perceive when a person handling it isn’t a threat and will calm down and tame easily. I have held them in my hands and on my lap when seated, gently petting them on the head, the snout, and allowing them to lick my hand (which is how they smell something to check it out). Nevertheless, one must always be aware that Gila Monsters are wired to respond very quickly and defensively with an open mouth display or a serious bite to any fast movement around them, so you move SLOWLY when handling them. You also don’t want to have ANY scent of birds or small mammals on your hands if you are going to handle one. If you have handled any mice, rats, or birds and then go to handle the Gila Monster without washing the scent of the former off, that’s a pretty sure way to learn how severe the bite of a Gila Monster is as it smells the scent of its prey on your hand and then mistakes your hand for its dinner.

komodo dragon also produces venom, so no
@iDONTdoFacebook4 жыл бұрын
Cosmos Provider The sheer ignorance of some individuals of the human species is astounding to me sometimes. With little or no effort whatsoever devoted to serious research or study, the unlearned individual who somehow presumes himself to be an ‘expert’ will often, without hesitation, vainly attempt to argue an issue with someone who has actually spent much time and effort studying the issue at hand. Here are the FACTS for you - the Truth... There are true venom glands in the heads of all VENOMOUS vipers. True venom is produced and stored in those VENOM glands where it awaits transport into the body of the VIPER’S prey via SPECIALIZED teeth called ‘fangs’. That is the TRUTH. It is UNIVERSALLY ACCEPTED scientific fact. Here is more related Truth on this topic to bring you up to speed @Cosmos Provider (this is the part you’ve presumed yourself to be the expert on, though it’s quite apparent you haven’t seriously studied it)... There is ONLY ONE lizard on Earth that has true VENOM glands (just like the VENOMOUS Vipers do) for the production and storage of true (you guessed it) VENOM. That lizard is NOT the Komodo Dragon. It is the Gila Monster / Mexican Beaded Lizard. Furthermore, just like all VENOMOUS Vipers, the GM/MBL has SPECIALIZED teeth that are especially designed for the delivery of their VENOM into the flesh of anything that it bites. Aside from the GM/MBL, there is NO OTHER LIZARD on Earth that produces VENOM. There are 0(ZERO) venom glands in the head of a Komodo Dragon, nor anywhere else in its body - again, a UNIVERSALLY ACCEPTED scientific fact. And unlike all true VENOMOUS reptiles (which includes the GM/MBL), the KD has no teeth (ZERO/NONE) that are specialized for the delivery of VENOM. BECAUSE IT HAS NO VENOM TO DELIVER. Long ago it was discovered that the saliva in the mouth of the KD is INFESTED with a fatal concoction of SEVERAL truly NASTY types of bacteria that when transferred to the bitten, if the wound is not quickly and thoroughly washed and disinfected, those truly nasty bacteria can quickly multiply within the wound of the KD’s bite creating a very serious local infection, which then makes its way into the bloodstream of the victim creating a deadly bacterial sepsis that over a period of several days eventually overwhelms the victim’s body, killing it. True VENOM works MUCH MORE QUICKLY than the process of being killed by a BACTERIAL INFECTION (the difference is hours as opposed to days). Again, this is all UNIVERSALLY ACCEPTED, already studied and proven scientific fact. As opposed to hard science and the facts it has discovered, immediately below I’ve copied some words of someone who has created a website (I just came across it and don’t know the author) who has apparently studied the topic but doesn’t necessarily believe everything they hear... [quote] “Some scientists hold that the saliva combines with bacteria to cause blood loss and infections to weaken and finally kill the prey. Different accounts state that a Komodo dragon's saliva includes a mixture of 53 strains of bacteria. However, Komodo dragons take good care of their oral hygiene, and other scientists argue that their saliva is not particularly infectious or venomous. In 2005, University of Melbourne researchers noted localized swelling, redness, bruising and affliction at the place where the dragon bites. Low blood pressure, muscle paralysis, hypothermia are some of the symptoms associated with the Komodo dragon's bite, but whether it proves the lizard is venomous cannot be decided.” [end quote] I’ve presented much more of the facts on this topic than are given by the author whose words I just quoted to you. And I’ve unquestionably provided much more scientific information than @Cosmos Provider has, whose very short statement of personal opinion wasn’t backed by anything of substance. Between the info provided by the three of us (@Cosmos Provider, the person whose words I quoted from their website, and myself) anyone who reads this should now have a good amount of solid info to know that there is only ONE true VENOMOUS lizard with which we share our planet -and that we have nothing to fear from it. Now with all that having been laid out, between the 2 species of lizards we’re talking about, if you HAD to be bitten by a mature individual of one or the other species, and you had a choice as to which it would be, you’ll want it to be a Gila Monster. You will most certainly live thru it (unless you’re one of the very rare people who are seriously allergic to the proteins in the Monster’s venom). If, on the other hand, you are attacked by a mature Dragon, your chance of being killed by any subsequent bacterial infection from the bite is lessened to a great degree by a good chance you’ll be killed on the spot as it grabs hold of you, commences to thrashing you like a rag doll, tearing you apart limb from limb as it eats you. An encounter with a mature non-venomous Dragon is a WHOLE ‘NUTHER EXPERIENCE than an encounter with the MUCH smaller mature venomous Monster (which wants nothing at all to do with you and will go out of its way to get out of your way).

I hate to be "that guy" and I don't have extensive research on these attacks in specific, but this piece is dangerously overdramatic. Any animal with a mouth (or any defense mechanism for that matter) can defend itself, and while the wounds inflicted by these animals are/were tragic and serious, that isn't to say a dog, cat, or bird couldn't inflict as serious of a wound. Animals, especially reptiles just don't want to be messed with, and most if not all of these attacks were inflicted by a stressed/scared animal. Reptiles can make great companions and beautiful animals to observe, but just as you wouldn’t like getting stepped on or poked, they don’t like it either. Also, Komodo Dragons are not poisonous, nor do they have a toxic bacteria that take down their prey (in fact studies show they have as much toxic bacteria in their mouth as a two-year-old human), they are in fact venomous, they have venom glands at the bottom of their mouth.

@S.F1574 жыл бұрын
Greg Hanson the reason dogs are more aggressive towards humans and injure more than reptiles is because they are adapted to a human lifestyle and can adapt to a lot of environments and have been genetically breed to adapt some kind of change .
@S.F1574 жыл бұрын
Greg Hanson reptiles will only be aggressive if they have a reason but mammals like dogs will just kill you for fun which proves that they are more of savages .
@S.F1574 жыл бұрын
Greg Hanson have you handled any wild animals before straight from their environment and if you did what species because reptiles can be dangerous if they want to be . There is a dangerous animal or each reptile group that can kill you or give you a lot of pain from crocodilians to Lizards to Turtles to snakes .
@levistokes39604 жыл бұрын
Any reptile or (any animal really) has the potential to bite. My snake struck at me yesterday just because she felt threatened. Can’t blame her. She’s non venomous but it just kind of startled me.

@@nexustr3660 no they are. the whole saliva thing was what people thought before some scientists made the discovery of venom glands. instead of fangs, the venom oozes out from between the teeth as the lizard bits its prey.

Hylaeosaurus Well I’m glad that a Galapagos tortoise that I encountered at a zoo when I was a kid wanted nothing more than a head scratch on the top of it’s head and wasn’t temperamental at that time.

Hylaeosaurus The one I encountered at the zoo was more like the one in the videos “Do Tortoises like being touched?” And “Saddleback Tortoise So big we could ride it!” This Galapagos had been around humans for quite a bit and was pretty obviously used to them and he seemed to be in a state of pure bliss sticking his head out and balancing his front feet against a rock for an almost five minute head scratch.

green iguanas are about the most tame and tame able of all lizards... even the family dog has teeth and can nip at you if you freak them out or scare him.. we have had a ton of lizards over the years as far as a reptile goes they are about the best house pet... we have wild alligator snapping turtles near us that have killed pet dogs and cats of people... we were walking on the trail behind our house and my grandson saw this big thing in the trail and ran up to it when i realized it was a gator snapper and just barely stopped him before he got his little fingers bit off it was at least the size of a car hubcap so i found a stick about the size of a shovel handle and that turtle bit that thing right in half like nothing i know the kid will remember they are dangerous ..
