Cleveland, Pings and Vokeys are the top 3 that worked for me in a fitting. Vokeys were the most consistent for me as I love the heavier head, but the Cleveland’s felt much nicer. The Pings were right up there with performance and the looks are fantastic.

As a Brit watching a Brit, I’d have liked to have seen the prices in £s as well as dollars Pete. Thanks for the review tho. I ended up replacing my 4 year old Cleveland RTX Zipcores this year with SM10s, largely based on a throwaway comment from you that Titleist were best for the ball not sliding up the face (I noticed my zipcores doing this). Been really happy with them so far (no sliding up the face so far!).

Great to see you at Bobby Jones golf course Atlanta. What a municipal course. Had the privilege to play it 3 tie over a 20 year period when I have found myself working over there. Lazrus 50,54,58 wedges are in my bag. They are one of the greatest value propositions in golf as far as wedges are concerned, IMO. Your video has me tempted to at least try the Wilson Staff models, however. One of my sons has the Wilson Harmonized wedges in his bag and we all like the Wilson Profile balls, which are another great value proposition for anyone who tends to find the locations on the course where golf balls can be "unfindable" (the middle of the fairway, on some of our local courses).

Self confessed Wilson fan so it's 49 and 55 Launchpad GW's for me. The looks may not be to everyone's taste but they are some of the best confidence building clubs out there for mid/ high HC's because they are so easy to hit. Had a C300 54 SW but I find the 55LP is more helpful from sand. Oh, and they are an absolute steal on the used market but look out for chipping on the backs from bag clatter.

I live in the UK, so wasn’t able to get custom fit but JP himself emailed with fitting recommendations (not often you get that level of service) and the aftercare service has been brilliant also! Another element I love is the fact that they are rarely seen especially in a UK golf bag!

Great review Peter, ty, I purchased Opus 52W ,50S,the 52 in black,not sure how it's going to hold up , but will see,but it looks outrageous in standard, and the platinum 56Z absolutely love the looks that's the reason I ordered them at first glance, and I purchased the 46 Degree Wilson staff, beautiful looking also, on the Opus I don't believe the standard has the cross groves, just the platinum. correct me if im off on that comment, but the wilsons groves look dangerous, haha. It's a really nice job by Wilson as always .and I game the 60 A+ from wedge works . It's like a shovel. If I can get out off a fluff lie or sand with the A+, I'm leaving the course, lol. and yes, it's very confusing. but I love the wedge game , it's my favorite part of golf.

I have a set of Wilson Staff Model Wedges. The previous model. I love them and I’d replace them with a new set when time comes. My only issue with them (might be on other manufacturers as well) is that I’m on the tall side. So getting 1” longer isn’t a problem, but the 2° upright I have on my other clubs is a little issue. I know wedges are already more upright, so making a wedge more upright screws the bounce. So I’m a little “squatty” on my 60° especially to get the bounce right.

Being a long time vokey guy, I thought for sure in fitting I’d be right back in the vokey world. But those new opus wedges set a new standard for me. I was shocked and second guessed it at first. But I kept going back and forth and they just were superior for me.
@ExbotHero2 ай бұрын
New wedges are great, but older wedges are often underrated and always underappreciated. While fresh grooves provide maximum spin, that extra spin can sometimes make shots less predictable, especially for the average golfer. Older wedges, with slightly worn grooves, tend to deliver a more consistent performance-two bounces and a check-up near the flag. It’s a straightforward, reliable shot that anyone can master. I’d even go so far as to say new wedges are often a waste of money unless you’re in the top 5% of wedge players globally. For most golfers, new wedges can actually lead to more missed shots because of the added unpredictability. It would be fantastic to see Peter demonstrate how using older wedges can save golfers both money and strokes while still delivering excellent results. With new wedges costing upwards of £200-250, an older model for £25-30 (way cheaper at goodwill and similiar places) and can perform brilliantly for years. Their consistency-especially on firmer greens-often outweighs the hype of a brand-new club. There’s a reason even professionals keep older wedges in their arsenal and use them regularly. Anyway, just an idea, but I think the results of that video would surprise a lot of people. Cheers, mates!

Have the sm9s in 48 52 go to a ping glide because of the wider sole in my 56 ....i tend to get the ball up quicker than most thus reason 56 is my "lob" where most use 58 or 60 ....plus i dont play any full shots with 56 .....hit the wilson cb and blade couple weeks ago while i was at the pga superstore in Knoxville Tn. Having the lie adjusted on my i 230s ....and i dont hit it far enough anymore to use them ....think my club head speed was averaging around 70 mph ...but they were quite brilliant....move the ball left ..right ...high ..low ....with ease ...and i hit 10 shots with each model ....bang out the middle ever shot ....felt amazing ...but i have not hit a wilson wedge since high school ...and lets just say thats been a couple decades or so ...(48 years old ) ....but those do look really good

7:59 You're right, it's not sand. It's actually granulated quartz. It's the same material they use at Augusta National for their bunkers.
@3nCounting4 ай бұрын
What do you think sand is? It's granulated stone/minerals and sand has various compositions but is defined by its grain size.. Quartz is the most common type of "sand" (Wikipedia: "The composition of sand varies, depending on the local rock sources and conditions, but the most common constituent of sand in inland continental settings is usually in the form of quartz."). The difference is that this is sand that's a specific type of stone, rather than various hundreds of elements and minerals. Our bunkers at our course (Riverwood National GC, MN) uses a granulated granite sand which also produces sparkle in the sand throw.

just picked up JP camber in a 48 and a 54, they are gorgeous and felt amazing when testing. Super soft forged feel off the face, and really super forgiving on not so great strikes. I get that the price point is not for everyone, but I think conceptually these are a really different way of looking at how wedges are made. I can't wait to try out the camber sole on a variety of lies, but it seems to get through the turf very quickly and easily. The only other wedge right now that i think has a similarly different approach is Edison, which I am in the middle of evaluating as well. They don't feel quite as nice as the JPs but do perform very well. The jury is still out for me on the Koehler sole, but most people seem to love it. I have for sure gotten away with murder more than once so far with them.
