A great song. The lyrics are EXTREMELY MOTIVATIONAL, and as usual Styx makes it personal and yet very dramatic. My favorite song from Cyclorama, edging out Killing The Thing That You Love and One With Everything.

I hear voices from beyond the veil They reverberate in mystery There are shadows in my heart And they multiply in memory And the comrades that I've lost out there In the scattered ruins still speak to me If the flickering light of your campfire dims The world grows smaller It's closing in I'm standing here And I want you to live I know These are the times we find out who we really are This will be when a true friend stands at your side Someone like me who wants to Believe in the days of high times and innocence Drawing the lines and shouting back to the night Someone like me who wants you to live And from those who've seen the light beyond We know the end will bring tranquility But the voices of the friends they heard Brought them back to this reality Tough the beacon of light in your life seems dim The sun's coming up on the world we're in There are choices here And I want you to live I know These are the times we find out who we really are This will be when a true friend stands at your side One more like me Who wants to believe in the truth of all we experienced To live again to jump back into the fight Someone like me who wants you to live Pouring light from the sky Portends you and I Disappears in the night I still remember I hear voices from beyond the veil Like a faint unfinished symphony Though the beacon of light in your life seems dim The sun's coming up on the world we're in I'm standing here And I want you to live I know These are the times we find out who we really are This will be when a true friend stands at your side One more like me Who wants to believe in the truth of all we experienced To live again to jump back into the fight Someone like me who wants you to live I want you, I want you, I want you to live I want you, I want you, I want you to live I want you to live I still remember.

JY - the singer and writer of this song I think lost a brother in the Vietnam war. I think that is your connection. The band are great, always have been, and Cyclorama is one of their best. Go out and buy it - it's worth it - even if you only like Tenacious D ;P

hey vaelsung! long time no see! :D styx always had diverse songs on their albums. you know that. just because they performed 1 or 2 ballads lately doesn't mean they still don't want to "rock." their live show is much more rock driven than it was a decade ago. i'm glad they are all still out there performing and creating music. much better than the alternative.

Jennifer Washburn ~ And to think this track was suppose to be on their "Brave New World" CD, but DDY wouldn't allow it. I'm with you, I much prefer Styx without Dennis. Sure he did some great songs, but constant ballads on every Lp, got old for me.

Has there been anything on a new Styx album? I would have to say that I don't hate the current band line up, they do have some great songs, but the band was at its prime when Dennis Deyoung was with them, and I cannot wait until Tuesday when 100 Years From Now comes out, I've heard little bits of it here on youtube, but it is going to be awesome, I would LOVE to see a reunion tour at least once, before anymore of them die off.

Sure, like "Yes I Can" and "Just Be", good thing the cover band doesn't have DDY so they can rock! Right... Give the "100 Years From Now" CD a listen sometime and see who put more "rockin" songs on their album and which album is truer to the spirit of STYX.

For those of you who miss D. DeYoung, can understand but D. D. acted like a big baby; always wanted his way all the time. The rest of Styx gave him the chance to get well. They told him they would get someone on a temp basis until he got well enough to come back. That wasn't good enough for Mr. DeYoung. He didn't want them to tour at all until he got back. Who knows how long that would've taken. So Styx went on w/o him. Best thing they've done. Happen to like Lawrence Gowan. He's a great musician, and he definitely has better showmanship then Dennis ever had. The fact that D.D. tried to sue over the Styx name says a lot.

+Lisa Parmeter Thank you. Don't get me wrong, I like Dennis. He has a voice to die for, and his early material prior to Cornerstone was fabulous. But he lost his edge. Plus he stopped considering the other song writers in the band. I personally prefer Jy and Tommy's material in later years of Styx, then Dennis. Their last cd together, "Brave New World", Dennis' material was not good. I only liked one song he did. The other DDY tracks sounded like show tunes to me.

+Deborah Kerns I totally agree with you. I didn't like that mr.robotic whatever it was called. Dennis wanted theater like stuff something like alice cooper and it didn't fit styx at all. I like the earlier stuff Dennis did to but was tired of his selfishness. I think Tommy and Jy have done great and I really like Lawrence he does really good and they seem to enjoy playing. With Dennis ya could tell there was tension with the band members. I'm so bummed out that I didn't get to go to their concert June 25th in Brainerd Minnesota. I don't drive anymore due to seven car accidents and my ride had other things she had to do. I hope they come back next summer cuz I really want to see them they are so good. they really have real meaning to their music. I've loved Tommy shaw since I was 11 or 12 and I will be 55 in November. Tommy looks awesome and can still play and sing so awesome. take care Deb. if ya hear of any place they are playing Minnesota Wisconsin Illinois or Iowa let me know if ya can. I get so far and my phone and computer knocks me off or puts me back on my facebook wall. have a great rest of the weekend.

Dennis DeYoung is a great performer singer musician. But he started to stop considering the other band members he took on too much and over powered the band like I said this band has three great lead singers not just one. If you ask me he should have left a long time before he did.

@funcpl2741054 you must be kidding? Better now live? I saw them twice with Dennis, three times without, it isn't even close amigo. They ruled with Dennis, We left early the last time we saw them. Nobody thought they were better.

1badsteed agreed, I saw them on the paradise and grand illusion 96/97 tours and then I saw them on the cyclorama tour. The new Styx is technically fine and Gowan is a more skilled keyboard player than deyoung, but so what? If that matters so much go listen to classical music. Gowan doesn't have deyoung's charisma and definitely not his songwriting ability. The original trio had a magic together. I remember I took a girl with me to see them in 97 and she was amazed at how nuts the audience was going over them.
