Estée Lauder owns NARS, MAC, Smashbox, The Ordinary, Bobbie Brown, Clinique, Too Faced, etc & bought them all up because of the success & uniqueness of their products but is now destroying the individuality of them all. That’s really the issue.

That must mean that they have all the original patents. If they do, they can go back to the tried and true "vintage" formulas. I love their idea of doing a 90's collection! I know it went out of fashion but I love that matte blue you saw everywhere in the 90's. I'd buy that in a heartbeat!

Clinique was the 80’s high schooler skin care from a department store. It was not the heavy make up of our mothers but lighter (colored water) weight “foundation”. Loving your Clinique stories. That was the brand I started with... my first skin care, my first foundation, etc. I was still using their foundation until two years ago when it just started looking terrible on me, but I still like their lipstick and a couple of their fragrances. Unfortunately, they'd created a skin cream that I loved, but they discontinued it the very next year. I was like, What? Since then I've been reluctant to use any of their products because they would just create and discontinue, telling me to purchase a more expensive replacement item instead. I may have to try out a couple of those new lipsticks though.

I just wanted to let you both know that a big reason of why Nars is discontinuing things left, and right is because they were bought by Sheisedo. As soon as I opened my Kohl’s Sephora stores, we had to take the OG Nars products off the shelf and send them back to Estée Lauder. I was nervous, because I remember when they took over bare minerals the products really went downhill. The shade range has slightly changed as well. It’s not as reliable anymore.

I will say, I do love their super shock cheek products, their ceme gel liners, and their super shock shadows. I honestly think Colourpop could do amazing things if they slowed down with their releases. I'm not sure if I feel clinique is in their flop Era because they still produce really nice products and they're still big with the older Beauty community. Also, definitely glasses frame number 2 was what looked best on you and your face shape.

I'm 53 and still miss makeup from the 80's, 90's and early 2000's. I started playing with makeup in the 70's when I would play with my mom's and grandmother's makeup. I remember cake mascara that came solid in a pan and you would wet it and apply it with a mini brush that had bristles like a hairbrush. To use black eyeliner in the waterline you had to melt it so matches were always a part of a makeup kit. Max Factor, Coty, Ultima II and Borghese were some of my favorites and they made awesome products. In the 2000's I started using Bare Minerals, Tarte, Smashbox, Laura Geller, Bobbi Brown, Too Faced and Mally. They all had great innovative products. When Maureen sold Tarte I noticed the change in products right away and stopped liking the brand. When Leslie gave up control of Bare Minerals the change in product offerings was drastic and it got boring. Then Smashbox, Too Faced and Bobbi Brown stopped making my favorite products. Laura Geller got repetitive. even my favorite shower gels stopped being made when Christina sold Philosophy. Big companies don't care about the brand the way the founders do and the brand's DNA gets destroyed. I hate the current makeup scene. I have always been such a makeup junkie and it saddens me that everyone is doing the same thing. I want amazing quality and colors I can get excited about. It is so rare nowadays to be wowed by a cosmetic product. I want to see change!

All that’s to say that I would REALLY love to see an episode of your podcast or a longer video on this channel where you both discuss makeup application tools. I’d like to know more about brushes, both natural and synthetic. And your favorite ones in each of the categories. I’ve spent a small fortune on Sonia G and other Fudes, but I’m so afraid that I might mess them up that I barely even use them. I have also spent lots of money on synthetic brushes from It Cosmetics and BK Beauty and MUFE. I get a lot of use out of them and mostly go through them until I’m forced to wash them. I’m also scared about using the same brush cleanser for the natural brushes. As you can probably tell, I’m a person with a lot of questions and I am asking you both because I gotta stop listening to Michelle Wang! 😂🥴

No deference to Erin Parsons who is AMAZING- but the original MAC lipstick packaging was a black metal bullet w/an embossed silver band in the center that said MAC. I worked at Henri Bendel in the 90’s when it was the only retail outlet where you could buy MAC. The silver packaging was later. I remember when they launched the shades “Twiggy” & “Verushka” and then had to change “Twiggy” to “Twig” because she sued them. Twig has been my ride or die for 30 years & can report it’s not the same. Just like Spice it’s not as cool-toned anymore. Velvet Teddy is more what Twig used to be. Also… Verushka was the most stunning deep purple-red & they discontinued it ages ago and I’ve been searching for a dupe forever.

I switched hairdressers not long ago, and she asked if I'd ever gone for a full brown lip. I remember the MAC and UD lips I pooh-poohed years ago in my brighr reds only era, and I *yearn* for those 90's browns back!

#2 for sure!! Also, I have a pair of those “dirty” glasses…they suit my warm undertone more than the typical clear cool plastic…but I love that new name for them…I love my dirty glasses🤣🥰

I was with MAC at the beginning (before they were even in the US) and I agree. They have discontinued every color and formula that I loved. Yes brands should evolve but they lost so much of what made MAC great. I had so many OG shades, formulas, and packaging but I finally had to get rid of a lot because they were decades old. Sad😢

Genuinely get so excited when a new episode pops up on my feed! Genuinely my favourite creators on the platform. Always feels like I'm catching up with friends when I watch/listen to an episode. I can't wait to see where this journey takes you both! P.s both of your foundations look incredible! I already ordered mine!

I recently fell in love with NARS bronzers lol. I’ve been a big fan of their lip products in the past, but it was because they offered more than warm nudes and reds. I have their hot pink lipstick that Kevin was taking about, and omg. I’m so glad I got it before it right before it got pulled. It’s so wonderful! Now, I don’t really look to them. I forgot how many incredible products they used to have! I wanted almost their whole line over the years! Thanks for reminding us of how great they once were!

Hi Johnny and Kevin. Happy Wednesday to you both. I just wanted to say that beautiful and bothered has become my go to podcast to listen to lately. It's so good and I thoroughly enjoy your best of make up episodes & these flop era videos of make up brands. I am a 90's kid and I really miss how Urban Decay and too face used to inspire and want to experiment with diffrent colors and tones and I miss some pretty iconic looks and products that they used to come out with back in the day. Everything is warm toned and orange nowadays

Everytime I hear "we're having weather" I just visualize Katya in her outfit and Trixie telling her she looked like a potholder. Lol I also think "white satin chemise with very hard, hard nipples." 😂

Saw this today & as a person who doesn't yet use makeup but is circling it to find my way into starting (49yo), I decided to look up the Twilight Colourpop stuff to see what it was. What confuses me is: The collection has a palette of cool tones w/shade names that match the films. Some are very pretty. Great. Then we move to the liners, and there is this gorgeous deep red and glittery eyeliner. You guys talked about how some magazine said red eye looks were gonna be all the rage, and I thought, "Oh! This must be for that!" but there are NO red shadows to go with the red liner--not even like a glitter one--so it feels like, "Ooh, throw in a blood red one." Like...? I was around for Twilight in my early-to-mid 30's and found it campy and bad but somehow endearing, so if I had pulled up this Twilight makeup (especially as I don't have much and nothing I buy will be "extra" or redundant duplication) and found cohesive, fun stuff in it that I could use as a "collection" together to practice making myself look fun...I would've bought it. Easy day. But even to my totally untrained eye, it looks thrown together with no thought or consideration. So why would I buy it?

I absolutely LOVE your video together!! It is truly a highlight! I watch all of them. I also would cry at the trailers of things like that too! I also hate politics in EVERYTHING!

Girl, you couldn’t be more spot on about bringing back the make up that made Mac popular! They could literally remake the George Michael video, with Mac products!!!All right girls, go call Mac right now!

So... the Wet n Wild kid centric collabs always felt like they were pandering to parents. I have 2 nieces and low and behold my older niece got the SpongeBob collab and my younger niece got sesame st.... they're an extremely affordable brand and because they're not super pigbmented parents are going to feel more comfortable buying them for their kids who are old enough to start playing with makeup. Trust me i tried that sesame st pallet and it was the most inoffensive color pay off ever... its meant for kids.

You know it's bad when the only time you see a Smashbox display is at the Estee Lauder warehouse sale. Also, what ever happened to Lorac?

Loved your opinions on Clinique. I've never understood how they are still around. My first real job at 18 was with Lancome and we were opposite the Clinique counter. All the girls on there had foundation 5 shades too dark, they all wore the Lancome mascaras because theirs were so bad and their skincare literally burnt your face off. This was when Lancome went through their make up innovation era, where they did amazing colour collections with blue lipsticks etc before blue lipsticks were a thing. OK yes I'm showing my age as this was over 20 years ago 😂 Lancome is another brand that is well past its hey day.

1:06:21 So according to my mom (who was a teen in the 80s), clinique was more available and had something for "all" the skin types, skin care wise (oily, dry, and normal). It was color oriented so you knew which ones to get based on your skin type, and the yellow moisturizer was good for everyone. It was an easy starting off skin care line
@TsukikoLuna265 ай бұрын
So the 1st proper line I got was from them. Tried whatever drug store/walmart stuff was cheapest, bad kinda bad acne, tried that since middle school, and when I turned like 14, she took me to get clinique skin care and then the acne helping foundation. It was really nice, but I prefer my newer stuff now

I love option 4 on you! Keep in mind that Warby has a wide and extra wide version of a lot of their frames. I've been eyeing some of their black or tortoise aviator glasses for myself.

The Smashbox flop era is also hurting my heart. I used to use so many products that have been discontinued. I loved their single blushes, the contour sticks, the undereye primer, and an amazing cream eyeshadow that I'm still trying to dupe. I have so much old products I can't bring myself to throw away (those large face & eye books).
