Here's another point with putting pronouns in bios: …not everybody shows themselves on camera, therefore, it can be difficult to know a person's identity either way. It just. Helps. And honestly, I think that point has a better chance in getting through to these people because the only arguments that would be raised against it are blubbering spit machines.
@osml3 жыл бұрын
And even if we can see them, we still can't be sure about their identities/pronouns. Gender identity =/= pronouns =/= gender expression. It's always better to put pronouns in your bio just in case (at least that's how I see it).
@slsthewriter12993 жыл бұрын
@@osml Fair enough, though I'd disagree with part of that. Gender identity is labeled through pronouns; language is just a bunch of labels in the end of the day, all so that people can understand what you're referencing. If gender identity can't be referenced by labels, then what's the point in identifying as any gender at all? (This isn't to say that gender and being able to label is the most important thing in the world, but that is what pronouns are, no?) Gender expression though, yeah I'd agree, because that's more on an individual basis and more so how people interpret their identity within the context of themselves. Hence why you can get variations in femininity versus masculinity regardless of gender. Though I digress. xD This talk is too complicated for my rat pea brain. Yeah, people should just put their pronouns in their bios. Lol
@osml3 жыл бұрын
@@slsthewriter1299 I see where you are coming from. What I was saying was that even though someone might align with a female/feminine leaning gender identity they might still use non-feminine pronouns. Same with male/masculine and genderless/androgynous. Like myself, am non-binary, look feminine but still use all pronouns that equally make me happy. Hope that was understandable. But yeah, at the end of the day, just let people be themselves and live how they want to.
@slsthewriter12993 жыл бұрын
@@osml aH that's it. Lol. Yeah, I do agree with you. I have a bunch of friends who are non-binary (I'm just soft butch, lol). My biggest thing is that sex =/= gender. There's a correlation a lot of the time, since gender is a culture's interpretation of sex, but because people are highly social, we're more complicated than that, hence why not everyone is cis. Tis probably the doctor in me, but that is a pet peeve of mine. Lol. Female doesn't always mean woman, and male doesn't always mean man. That said, if you're including male and female within the definition of gender, then yeah I do agree with you 100%. But since I separate them, that's were we disagreed. Lol. But ye. Let people vibe.

I am an ex-Christian, and I'm ashamed to say that for a period of time, when I started hearing about lgbtq+, nonbinary, and trans people... I wasn't sure what to think of it. I was surrounded by people who told me it was wrong and a sin to act like that. I even started believing it to a point... but I wasn't sure why we hated them so much, they were just doing their own thing. It wasn't anything I agreed with (at the time) but I didn't bother arguing about it either. For me, it just made sense that different people have different lives, so just let them live. It was when I learned more about all these communities and started understanding more, that I realized how wrong I was growing up. This is most of the reason I stopped believing in the church. (there's many other reasons too, but this is a big one) I haven't even come out to my parents yet as bisexual, because my dad has spoken so many times about how 'confused' the "lgbtqx-whatever" community is and how it's an illness. I once spoke up about my support for them, and his reaction was scary. Fck people who think like this, you are the reason so many people in the world don't feel safe.
@chloeorr98802 жыл бұрын
As someone who is ex-church, bi and also has anti-lgbt parents, I get it. I finally came out to my dad this year (I’m 24). I got lucky cause I’ve been slowly educating them through the years so my dad approached from a learning perspective which was awesome. It sucks that there’s so many people like this out in the world though. It’s like we got a taste of freedom during the Obama era only to go back to living in fear. I just got finished working a job with very closed minded people who were DISGUSTED with same sex relationships. Not to mention the new ucky baptist church whose creed is to eliminate every lgbt person on the planet 🤮.

So, in veterinary medicine the default pronouns for a patient whose sex is undetermined for whatever reasons is they/them. Literally no one is confused by this. No one. Also can I just put it out there that Morgan's long drawn out manner of speaking absolutely makes me crazy? It's not what makes her a problematic person, of course. It's just a little pet peeve that sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me. But since she got on the subject of sympathizing with others I'm going to admit that I feel some element of pity for Morgan. In my opinion she acts like a little girl, purposefully. She seems to think that as a woman in a relationship she is required to put forth a childlike manner to meet some sort of standard in her brand of Christianity. Please note that this is a personal opinion, it is entirely subjective and I am not making a claim that it is 100%; it is only my perception of her behavior. I have no trouble believing that Paul and Morgan do not understand why someone might do some introspection and figure some things out about themselves. It seems to me that people like Paul and Morgan do not spend a great deal of time on self-reflection so I find it reasonable to think that they do not understand why anyone else would. I doubt they know much about the history of LGBTQIA people. Paul and Morgan are not the first people I have ever seen who appear to think that the number of people who -are- LGBTQIA is growing instead of recognizing that as society opens up people who already were LGBTQIA are willing to come forward and try to live their lives by their own lights. Many of these kinds of fundamentalist religious people seem to believe that trans and non-binary experiences are new in the world as opposed to having always been around and just not been accepted out into the open or discussed. It limits their ability to really understand the world around them in all its richness.
@badpoisonnightshade3 жыл бұрын
I find it even funnier that Morgan says these things while having a typically gender-neutral name. Like if no one saw a thumbnail or heard of the Paul and Morgan show before they can just assume it's two guys on a podcast, thus misgendering her. Like if she cares so much about it, maybe a name change is in order so that no one will be confused and accidentally call her them or something horrendous like that.

As a Christian agender, pansexual person, I couldn't feel more attacked by their video. If my gender identity is a trend, then why has it been something I've been struggling with for 12 years before I even had access to the internet? Being called by the wrong pronouns is not something that a CIS person would understand. Feeling different on the inside, but knowing you don't match that in your biology, or how you present yourself, or how you are referred to, is not something that I would wish on anyone. Having to hide that kind of stuff, because you know you won't be accepted, all the while being hurt by the way that you are referred to is one of the worst feelings ever. They are both cishet, white, rich, skinny people. So high up the top that they can't even see the bottom.

I don't feel like a Jessica. I'm Jess. I have an internal visceral reaction every time someone calls me Jessica. Sometimes I accidentally snap and say 'that's not my name!' My mum corrects people if they call me Jessica (I'm 30 now and she still does it for me). I'm considering legally changing it. That is how much it feels wrong. If I can feel so many emotions by being called the name I was assigned at birth - and for no real reason, there isn't a lot of trauma behind my distaste for it or anything - then I can only begin to imagine how people feel when they don't identify as the gender they were assigned at birth.

Non binary doesn’t just mean both man and women. It can also mean someone doesn’t feel like they fall into the gender binary. Different people have different interpretations. These two will be the ones to say “yeah, I don’t have pronouns, I’m just a girl, or I’m just a boy.” He really said, “SHE is a they/them, and SHE is non-binary.” Like at this point, he doesn’t even make sense grammatically. And then she says “I really feel sorry for Demi, Disney really messed her up.” Like Disney and Demi’s substance use are the reasons why they are non-binary. Finding your true identity is not a result of these things, it is a result of taking time to really reflect on yourself and, maybe how you feel you would be best represented. For a lot of people, they just don’t feel like they fit into masculine or feminine pronouns, and it is their right to identify how they feel most comfortable. I’m so sick of people saying that you don’t get to decide how you identify, like it affects their lives in any way to meet or see someone who is trans and or non-binary. There are so many amazing and beautiful non-binary and trans Individuals, they are all lovely people. The only thing different between you and them, is that they know exactly who they are and have been able to find that person, despite living in the world that they live in. If your god preaches love for all, then act on that. Stop picking and choosing what your religious text says to further push your hateful beliefs onto people that didn’t ask for your opinion. Someone else’s gender isn’t going affect your life, and they need to realize that people aren’t always going to immediately present as male or female, when they may identify as a man or a woman. Wait until she finds out that people can identify as he/she/they, her brain will probably melt or something. Respect pronouns, respect people, stop demonizing them because they’re not the exact same as you. These people, Morgan specifically, need to calm down and administer themselves a nice, healthy reality check, and realize that they need to get with the times or get out of the way. Depression rates in LGBTQ+ community are up because of people like these two, and their harmful words.

Fun fact for anyone that thing the singular they/them pronoun is grammatically incorrect: Shakespeare used the singular they/them to refer to any character that was unnamed and side characters that weren't part of the main cast. It was grammatically correct then and even if it wasn't grammar rules change all the time you don't speak like we did 300 years ago so why shouldn't we change the rules if it makes people happy? And why should we keep rules that oppress people? And don't try to say you've never said something like "oh someone dropped THEIR wallet" or "someone lost THEIR bag" don't act like you say she/he in everyday conversations

The only thing that is "new" is that people are starting to try to understand themselves better, realizing they can express and really allow themselves to be who they feel; they feel more comfortable with themselves.
