Obvs needs a mirror for your wrist, and the ruler markings need to be reversed so they can be read in the mirror. Then you just hold the thing up to your glasses, and look at the mirror on your wrist to read the size.

Honestly, i think these are great. I think the ear thing could be helped by starting the curve for behind your ear a little further though, so it is more behind your ear. You would need new measurements if it makes the arms longer, but i think that'd help.
@ramonetheninjaСағат бұрын
Awesome work Simone, as always! I bet if you started the slope to the ear-holding part more gently, reduced the overall ruler width and cut a couple of indents above each eye they would look even more stylish. The issue of being able to see what your measuring... That could be harder to solve!

If you make this a product, I think there are glasses hinges that lock at 90° and 180°, so it would work. If you want to meme it up a little more, you could also put hexagon cutouts like those wallet cards, left side imperial, right side metric

You need to add magnets and pen/pencil in a steel tube so you have something to mark the measurment with. I would also suggest you head over to click spring and use similar techniques for etching the marking on instead of CNC. This way you could reduce the size of the arms making them more user friendly.

@EricDaMAJ39 минут бұрын
Upon considering this project, I wanted a reticle on the glass lens that would allow you to measure things at a glance. But calibrating such a thing seems impossible between how the glasses would wear and the distance to the object measured. So my alternative would be two 8 cm x 0.4 cm x 0.1 cm steel rulers that would attach to eyeglass frame using small magnets. They would lay on the temple part of the frame on each side of the head. You could pull them off to measure something and put them back on again. They could be marked off in inches and centimeters with one being devoted to very precise measurements. The benefit for a use like me is I could actually be able to see the item measured since I wouldn't have to take off my glasses. As an add on, you can have one taper to a small cutting blade and another to a pen or mechanical pencil tip.

This is fun. But I’ll tell you what I did to make measuring more convenient. I learned the length of my arm, the width of my hand, the distance between two of my finger joints, and so on. For example, if I stretch out my arms, the distance between my two middle fingertips is about six feet. My palm is four inches wide. The middle joint of my pinky finger is one inch long. My whole body is about 6’3” tall. I can use these parts to measure things. Your measurements will (probably) be different, but the point is to learn them and remember them. Ideally, you can find a part of yourself that’s exactly a foot long, a yard long, an inch long, and so on (or whatever metric or other units you want). The advantage, of course, is that you always have your body with you. You aren’t going to forget to pack your hand for a trip, or forget to take your nose to work. (Hmm, that thought brings some strange images into my mind). I learned this from my father, but using parts of the human body for measuring units is ancient. Many units of measurement were originally based on human anatomy. A cubit, for example, was the distance between your elbow and the tip of your middle finger. The pyramids of Egypt were laid out in cubits, and the instructions for Noah’s Ark were in cubits. There was a standard cubit (about 15 to 18 inches, depending on the time and place, but for rough and ready estimates people just used their forearms and hands.

I had a couple of ideas if you ever want to iterate on this: you could put the measurement markings on the inside so that when the arms are opened fully it can lay flat on the surface being measured, and you could also include the side-guards and maybe even use them with some kind of snap to stabilize the arms when they're in glasses mode.

I love those! You don't need safety glasses to measure, and if you are someone who wears glasses, I imagine you would be taking the safety ones off to see fine measurements. Then back on to cut. People might even be safer in the long run if they have less opportunities to misplace their safety glasses by them literally being at hand when done measuring.

Really amazing build! I think if the stems were a little longer, it might help with the ear folding problem? And hinges like a stapler that lock in position would be better for being glasses. I'd love to see these built into the saftey sides that clip onto glasses. The safety sides extend slightly over the top of the lenses, so the ruler could sit on top without scratching the glasses, you can see while using them since they detatch from the glasses, and you won't lose one safety side because they're attached with the ruler! May need to have some kind of elastication in the middle for different face widths?
