I‘m 75 years young; back in the day neighbors took care of neighbors, whether it was cutting the grass for the old couple across the street, or watching the kids for the young mother down the block, we just did what needed to be done for each other. Sadly, things just don’t seem to work like that anymore. 😢

Dont worry. People are still, taking care of each other. My neighbors check on me all the time. And my brother who lives in another state has neighbors that bring him food on occasion.

Hi, young person! I think we have had too much of a "Nanny Generation" where kids are "protected" even from using something as "dangerous" as a lawn mower! I recall that as soon as i was tall enough to operate the old manual (not motorized) rotary-blade lawn mower on the farm, it was MY job to mow the front lawn and the side along the garden, about every two weeks in the summertime! That stood me in good stead when I owned my own home in a city, where I was delighted to find a new rotary mower designed just like the one I grew up with. I recall some kids on bicycles stopping to watch this antique-like lawn care, and one of them said, "you know those come with motors now, don't you!" I looked at their bikes and replied, "You know, I think THOSE come with motors too!"

Something I don't hear you mentioning often, but you deserve that credit, is that uncovering sidewalks makes the road safer for wheelchair users, mobility scooter users, basically everyone with impaired mobility, parents with babies in strollers, kids on bikes or rollerblades, basically everyone who might have had to use the road and go near the cars because they couldn't go on the grass-covered sidewalk. It also makes the area easier to navigate for visually impaired people. You're not just helping property owners and/or removing an eyesore for the neighbors, you're literally making the area more accessible to disabled and/or elderly people, and kids. I feel like it's important to mention, to give yourself the credit you deserve but also to help other people realize how important it is to keep sidewalks usable, and how much of a difference it makes for the more vulnerable members of the community.

There’s still a lot of kids who are raised right with good and loving parents. Who teach them manners and respect. There’s kids who have great parents but they’ll go out and hang out with other kids and put peer pressure on them to do the wrong things so they can feel accepted. Unfortunately, people will first blame the parents but some kids are good at lying and pretend they’re good at home but when they’re with their friends, they’ll do what they want.
