It was a really scary day twenty years ago that was especially tragic for a few thousand people, all of whom have been taken care of *way* better than the family of any covid victim and avenged two or three hundred times over, but to break into the 900 worst American disasters of the 21st century you'd have to pretend Covid going so badly was inevitable.

@riverstein7251 I've heard that in cold seasons the temperature shock from overly hot water can actually kill people, especially if they're older, so maybe that?
@diamondseraph936911 ай бұрын
@@riverstyx7251 I mean...kinda? I looked it up and one of the first things said that they can accidentally scald (burn) themselves? And that the burns if severe enough could potentially kill you...? But like... I'm not exactly sure on what the chances of that happening are like...and I imagine that there would be other factors.
@karalyzel317711 ай бұрын
@@diamondseraph9369 Water can give you some really serious burns, homes are *supposed* to have systems to prevent your tap from getting that hot, or to be calibrated to prevent this, but not all of them have these, especially older homes. A water heater set wrong, you leave the tap on to warm up because it's cold outside, go to wash your hands and bam, serious burns. Being exposed to scalding water for only three seconds can burn you bad enough to need surgery! Now change that sink you washed your hands in to a bath for a child. Unfortunately, children are one of the largest victims of this. Scalding is serious, and burns can kill. Especially with how prone burns are to getting infected. If your water heater is set over 120 degrees, you can get scalded. They come set at 140 by default...
@diamondseraph936911 ай бұрын
@@karalyzel3177 Oh, yeah, I get that. It's more so that I'm not entirely sure how common it would be for the water heater to be set that high/improperly (of course it happens and if you don't know what you're doing it would probably make it a lot more likely...it just seems like something that probably wouldn't happen _TOO_ often)... Also it just seems weird to me that someone wouldn't check the temperature of the water prior to hopping in for a bath/shower since to me it just makes more sense to make sure it's around the right temperature first. So while I don't doubt that it _DOES_ happen it still seems like something that _PROBABLY_ won't happen to you (especially if you check the water first before jumping straight to bathing/showering/whatever) so it's not really something you should probably worry about _TOO_ much...hence only like 30 something people dying of it per year. Of course I'm more than willing to believe that people have burned (possibly even severely so) their hands/arms and stuff like this because that's pretty easy to do lol.

More people do die each year to many different things than gun violence. Also - hands and feet kill more people than guns. Haven’t dealt with a toddler with a gun, but I have had a fridge dropped on my toes (they didn’t break). Also, as for the hot tap water… back when I was in 9th grade, winter time, I was waiting for the cold water to turn hotter; however, I zoned out and didn’t zone back in until I had steam in my face. So, long story short (too late, I know) I burned the back of my hand. As for beds, when I was younger and staying in a hotel room with my mom and brother… I was being a cool kid reading the Percy Jackson books, but I kept dozing off. My brother would try and take the book from my hand and I’d be like, “Stop that, I’m reading that!”. I was probably rereading the same paragraph because my brother tried multiple times and then I eventually fell off the bed and hit my temple on the bedside table. I decided to stop reading after that lol. As for stairs, ha, don’t get me started. I fall up the stairs. I fall down the stairs. Sometimes it’s one step, other times it’s the whole way down like I flew and other times I ride the stairs down like a slide. So, I basically found out today that it’s a miracle I’m still alive lol. That’s the moral of my story 😂 Thank you all who read till the end. You’re a real one ❤
