Got through… really nice story telling style! Good take on the flange. I never understood those who claim they are soft… my footage is super sharp for anamorphic.

Loved this video and definitely think the PAVO is one of the best 2x budget solution on the market. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Blazar Remus lenses. Obviously I don't expect you to just wip up a video from nothing from a random request, they just seem like an interesting compromise between the PAVO look and the Mercury look. Especially since they announced the 35mm s35 T1.6 version of the Remus lenses this coming week.

Thank you! I’m definitely interested in making a video on the Blazar Remus, I’m still working on getting my hands on a set though 😅

Great video man! Been wanting to try these out for a while - what sort of T-stop did you find yourself shooting at on your professional shoots?
@MortyFilms9 ай бұрын
Probably around a T2.8, still a lot of character, but not quite as soft as all the way open
@EdProsser9 ай бұрын
@@MortyFilms yeah I've seen mixed results with them online some seem very soft, but love the character of them - as you say may be the flange issue. I definitely need to test em out myself.
@MortyFilms9 ай бұрын
They do also sharpen up drastically when you just close them down slightly, so that’s maybe why you’ve seen mixed results. But especially with anamorphics, It is good practice to close them down a bit anyway.

Great video. What are better? The Remus Blazar anamorphic or Dzofilm anamorphic
@MortyFilms3 ай бұрын
Thank you! I haven‘t really had the chance to use the Blazar yet, but they ate powerful little lenses for the price and much cheaper than the Pavos. I might be able to do a shootout soon.

I would love to try out an anamorphic like that. Now to achieve a look i use a 24-70mm wide open 2.8 on a landscape 😂
@MortyFilms9 ай бұрын
Hahaha, well you can always try to go to your nearest rental house and request a demo, most of them do it for free as long as you don’t leave the building with the lenses.

Hi! How do you compare the pavo vs the vazen 65mm?
@MortyFilms9 ай бұрын
I haven’t tried the 65mm, but from what I can say from my 40mm, The Pavos definitely have the stronger look. While the Vazen has quite some heavy streak flares, it also is a bit soft overall. The Pavos have more of a falloff towards the edges and strong chromatic aberration, but very mild flares. It’s far less easy to flare the Pavos, but I’d definitely say I prefer the look of the Pavos.
@JohanGassCommunications9 ай бұрын
@@MortyFilms have you tried the blazar remus to compare? Very interesting set of anamorphic lenses. Very affordable too.

Man i was watching early PAVO reviews from rental houses it was so obvious there is backfocus and just focus issues. This lens is super soft yet focus sits 5cm deeper on subjects hair and ears. Makes you think if those fellas know what they are doing at all.

At the end of the day nothing beats going to a rental house and trying it out for yourself I guess 🤷🏼♂️

does a lens review with the halation and film grain sliders cranked to 11
@MortyFilms9 ай бұрын
Haha, well there’s only light grain on the footage that was actually shot on the lenses and the shots of the test charts have no halation or blooming added at all. I’m was using these lenses on actual shoots, so they are graded, not just converted to rec.709. But I mean, that’s also how someone would actually use them, don’t you think so?

I'm no expert but for me, watching this video, it's not "character", they're simply very soft, it's like there's no plane of focus at all. I wouldn't be able to watch more than 30s without being very annoyed. They're cool looking though.
@MortyFilms9 ай бұрын
The thing is that I was shooting them wide open a lot, they easily sharpen up as soon as you close down to around T4. The reason I didn’t mention it in the video is because it’s very common practice with Anamorphics to close them down, I’m personally just a sucker for a lot of character, so I liked the look of them wide open, but I totally get it’s not for everyone.
