learn chess notation first then get the book "Modern chess Openings" 15thE learn Openings then middle Game Theory and end game Theory, then work through old past games like that of Paul Morphy or Capablanca all the old USSR players bobby Fishers games and all players living now in the top 100 of best players

No but the two best books are "everyone's second Chess book" by Dan Heisman for 800-1200 And De La Maza's " rapid chess improvement" for 1200 to 2000. Of note, rapid chess improvement is recommended by Rowson in his "chess for zebras" introduction as suitable for those who aren't strong enough to benefit from "chess for zebras". Chess is just like math. You wouldnt read "quantum entanglement linear theory" for graduate math majors until you have mastered "numbers and counting for 8 year olds" and "basic algebra" for 12 year olds. In chess, the simplest mistake is what loses the game. Losing a piece to a tactic is more damaging then not knowing how to optimally conduct a particular rook, king and 2 pawns vs rook and king ending. Your most basic mistake that you keep making should guide you on what level book you need to read.
