Played with these in the 80’s, great fun. Was told by some military pilots in the club that RC’ers made good student pilots.

I agree, I flew R/C for 3 years before going after my private pilot license. I flew the plane to a nearby airport and made the approach to land and then was allowed to make the takeoff and fly back home on the first dual lesson. I credit the R/c flying plus a few hours of riding with other pilots in their planes to making it easier to learn and earn my license.

@SteffenRC 30% Nitro on a tuned pipe is awesome but less clean up with modern electrics. You don't get that wonderful smell either.

I was into RC for about 30 years. Got out of it years ago. I had a scat cat with a modified Rossi 40 engine on it and tuned pipe.. it was blindly fast

I hear you Nate/abby. I pretty much only fly Electric today. I started in the 80’s so nitro and simple radios were the norm. I’m working with these nitro guys to build an electric quickie to compete with their nitro planes. Video forthcoming. Thanks for commenting- Will

Don't usually critique on stuff like this none of my business. The way the guy was holding plane was a hazard to himself. If his tinsy tiny finger pinch on tail was to slip, the motor prop, front of plane could pivot right into his hand and arm. But to each his own. ;)

@@tomdoe6816 I truly appreciate the feedback, I am just a outside observer. I have little experience with glow engines other than little .049 as a kid. When you have spinning blades upfront like that , I do feel a firmer full handed grasp around the rear of fuselage, just in front of the empennage could be a safer route. Unfortunately, I've seen more people hurt by Electrics because they aren't using throttle cut. You are correct you must respect the prop.

It doesn't hurt that bad. Stuck my palm in a few props while tuning the needle valve...scars to prove it. Love that electric has come as far as it has. No more buddy boxes??? I'm down.

We might understand the radio controlled model part. But our hobby doesn't enable us to fly past line of sight. We fly within a 4-500m range.
