They worked and I forgot how much pain I was in.. then I stopped taking them and became violently ill, incapable of sleep, hot and cold, highly anxious and in more pain than before I took them. I was fucking 16 and when I told the doctor what was happening he literally said, “oh, yeah you are going through opioid withdrawal.” At no point was that possibility mentioned and it would lead me to struggle with addiction for the following 4 years. This shit fucked up my life for a long time and I’m still pissed about it.

One of the symptoms of depression is not having any energy to do anything and when you treat depression that’s one of the things your trying to stop, if you have suicidal thoughts but no energy to act on them the meds can sometimes in giving you more motivation it can leave the thoughts and it can just give ppl the energy they didn’t have to off themselves. That’s why doctors warn abt this with antidepressants. Antidepressants are’t sketchy, I’d say they help more than they hurt to be honest. “This medication didnt turn me in a zombie, its turned me into an active person” what a good description of a drug giving you energye again and making you active again lol. Its like shes hiding that it actually makes you a zombie
@ENT683 Жыл бұрын
In small doses that are managed regularly by your doctor, and not increasing the dose it doesn’t make you a zombie. Some ppl have pain conditions where they need pain medicine I’ve been on the same lowest possible dose of opioid twice a day for 5 years and I’m more of a zombie without my medication bc that’s what severe pain does to your brain. Ive never been high on my medication. Not everyone does well with narcotics. Some ppl can’t manage the dose and need to increase or have addictive personalities. It’s definitely not for everyone. But not everyone who uses narcotic pain meds is high or addicted or a zombie. There are ppl with genetic medical conditions that cause even the most mundane actions like swallowing liquid to be agonizingly painful. Many of them need pain medicine.

@@ENT683Yes it's sad that pain patients are paying the price for the opiod epidemic. I mean - opiate use in the west started growing in the 60's, homelessness is on the rise, little or no mental health support - drug use is obviously increasing. To suggest that pharmaceutical meds, as horrific as they are, have been the major cause of drug abuse in the west is incorrect. The problem is big pharma can't come up with a painkiller that works better than opium.
@Fatalismic6 ай бұрын
@@ENT683 why is the concern in America about pain regulation and not root problem diagnosis? Maybe because it would be too expensive(generally) for insurance companies to advocate for. I had back pain due to a fractured spinal column for 5 years and solved it by spending a shit load of money with a field professional at a hospital to build a custom back brace.
@Fatalismic6 ай бұрын
And before I get a response like oh well some diseases/injuries are untreatable. Like what? No, unfortunately we have the solutions to a lot of these problems but they aren't recommended by doctors due to insurance companies being cheap or the exorbitant amount of money required to resolve these issues. Doctors only charge what they do because they know insurance is going to pay for it.

Watching a series on OxyContin and that ad for it was actually so messed up and sad that same lady grew tolerant to this “new opioid “ and she was just prescribed more and more form 10mg to like 160mg of it until she actually fell asleep constantly at work lost her job and became homeless or something kinda ironic when u see the ad now. Whole thing was messed up
@the.globfather Жыл бұрын
When it popped up on screen that she was taking 30/mg oxys every single morning to go to work, I immediately got so depressed because that is no low dose. It gets way higher due to tolerance of course but popping a 30 every morning when you wake up, and lets be real probably at least one or two more at the end of her day for sleep, that is going to set in very intense addiction before her first script is even out. Horrible horrible. Not to mention that the fentanyl m box 30s, or the "blues", that have taken over the countries opiate addicts almost entirely are molded to look like an Oxy 30 mg. Just a bit of added horrifying irony there. Source: trust me, Im one of those opiate addicts that has fallen to the Fentanyl 30s. Its all absolutely zero fun

I was on a mix of two different opioids during a hospital visit and can state for certain you pretty much zombify any thing close to daily use. I was on morphine until I tripped one too many balls then I was moved to Oxycodone up until my recovery. I was prone to active night terrors of varying severity and straight up delirium. I had points where I was putting soy sauce from a pot noodle into a coffee, putting on odd shoes and an accidental dislocation here and there. Hands down fun if you don't need to anything while on them, down right stupid to let people use them at home.

A very important point you bring up. I think it's important to distinguish between the medicine itself and the pharmaceutical industry. Medications such as Oxycodone, Fentanyl, Morphine etc are very useful and effective medications and certainly do have legitimate uses in the medical field (Pallative, Severe Chronic Pain that is unresponsive to non opioid analgesia etc.) What the pharmaceutical industry has done is disgusting and has resulted in the deaths of many people. However we in the medical field and the community as a whole need to be careful not to demonise the medications themselves and although it's important to stop drug addicts, pill farms etc, genuinely sick people who are suffering from very real pain need access to whatever treatment is working to help them live a meaningful and valuable life. In my opinion I have seen first hand some situations were genuine patients have paid the price and have been denied their medication as the doctors were being frightened by the government and threatened with sanctions in some cases unfairly. We need to find a good medium that allows genuine patients access to the care they require whilst focusing on harm reduction for addicts and punishment for criminals who abuse the system.

You miss the bit where they have people in the commercial with casts as if the the OxyContin were intended for that type of pain when in reality OxyContin was intended for end of life comfort treatment for pain. Like you’re dying from terminal cancer and you’re in such great pain that OC was the last resort to provide you some comfort until you die. Like it’s really not for sprained wrists but here’s a woman with a cast so maybe you’ll be misled enough to overprescribe this med.

So... Did use Chantix (marketed here in Oz as Champix) to quit for short period before relapsing, and while I hope it helps some people I have pretty conflicted feelings about it. First, a side effect they didn't cover is that when I took it I got stomach cramps, taking with water and/or food was meant to help but it was still pretty unpleasant. And when I say cramp, I mean stabbing pains and a seizing up feeling. The vivid dreams are accurate - I slept like shit for the whole period, and had bizarre dreams I can't remember. There's also anhedonia and mood swings. To be fair, some of these things are just features of quitting, but I took it for three months without smoking (well past the end of physical symptoms) and these symptoms didn't end. All told it was a pretty unpleasant experience,

I took champix, a European variant of chantix to stop smoking. It worked but I won almost all of the prices in the side-effects lottery. Everything from not feeling so good to feeling as sick as a dog barfing my stomach out. The dreams where awful sometimes and sometimes I would walked through the room as if I was drunk. It was a really bad experience but it worked. Not only did the drug stopped the workings of nicotine for a while, to stop me smoking, but also the memory of the side-effects I had discourageses me to start again.

This ad made me think about an SNL skit I saw the other day, satirizing these ads. I knew these ads existed but had never actually seen one, and the SNL skit went on for ages and got weirdly over the top. I now realise why. The actual ads are so fucking batshit that if you want to satirise them then you have to go even more over the top. If a British or Australian comedy show tried to make a joke about prescription drug ads that are overly cheery with horrible side effects, they would literally just make this chantix ad. The idea of someone calmly telling you that this drug might make you want to kill yourself with gentle music in the background is already so outrages and hilarious that you wouldn't need to go any further.

Old video but as someone in the pharmacy field I felt the need to comment Best (sarcasm) part of Chantix-meets-capitalism is 6 months before it went generic, the company stopped making it because they knew they were going to lose hella money. It just didn’t exist for 6 months until other companies were allowed to pick up the slack and start selling the generic. I’m also OBSESSED with drug rep merchandise, just having random stuff branded for, like, a controlled substance is WILD to me. My holy grail is a Concerta branded stapler so HMU if anyone has one My favorite part of drug commercials is that they always start the warnings with “Don’t take -drug- if you are allergic to -drug-“ Thanks for the warning? Seriously I could go on forever about name-brand and generic nonsense, don’t get me STARTED on drug insurance
