This is perfect! I try to explain how we "Fly cherry trees"during the season. Hillsborough Oregon, It rains, we hover fly over them to get the rain drops off without harming the cherry. It's awesome for a low time pilot to build hours and perfect their hovering techniques. The rain drop on a cherry also acts like a magnifying glass and when the sun comes out after the rain it will overheat that spot and split the cherry, now you've went from a $2M cherry crop to a $500k pie filler crop. So it's well worth $100k to have a helicopter company there to save the "A" crop!!!

When I was a kid we had a Wild Cherry tree along a fenceline. I took care of one branch, about 9 feet long - dried my cherries after every rainstorm (in southern Missouri) and had a good harvest for myself. I was the envy of the schoolyard with my fresh, ripe, sweet/tart cherries. Of course I shared with the cute redhead... :)

HeavyDSparks This is VERY, VERY, VERY important how you are educating the public about farming!!!! I have been trying for years to figure out how to get the truth out where the public will listen. As the comments show they are listening to you. I am a pest control adviser, fertilizer/chemical dealership owner, and citrus farmer in the San Joaquin Valley in California. I’m also a pilot. Thank you so much for taking the time to get the truth out to the public, there are so many out there that don’t know the truth and are giving the farmers a bad rap. If you ever want to know about citrus farming I’d be glad to talk to you about it.

@ 15:00 As an Australian who is currently in the process of joining the Navy as a helicopter pilot, i have done extensive research into the role. One of the clips i came across involved a deckman whose role it was to chock a helo upon landing a moving boat. During the clip, you see the helo land on the deck and the deckman run out chock the helo, but as the boat was still moving, the air was choppy, the pilot had to make inputs to control the stability and secure the landing, at which point the main blades came a lot lower than what would normally be expected, the blades contacted the deckman's helmet/head which instantly turned it to a mushy consistency that spread across the deck. Safety is no joke is you plan on returning home to your loved ones in a condition that still able to return that same love.

It’s a small world, I bought a aircraft through Ryan , he was selling it for a third party, I bought it sight unseen, only one I ever bought like that. But he said that he would love to have it, so I hadn’t done anything crazy that day. I wasn’t disappointed. I’m not looking for a job I’m pushing 70 and been in Aviation for almost 50 years, it’s all hard work. I fly close air support for cattle ranches in SE Texas. This was one of my favorites, keep them coming.

Where I am from cherry farmers also pay helicopter pilots to stand by in the early part of the growing season to protect them from freezing. They will fly over to circulate the air to protect them from freezing. Amazing what just a few degrees will do to a whole crop worth hundreds of thousands.

Yes its just like in my country we do "frost watch" the helicopter sits on the ground on site and as soon as the temperature drops below a certain degree then fly at low level above the crop, shaking the crop to stop frosts from settling on the crop, usually your doing that around 2am or 3am into the late morning, 3 or 4 farmers together paying for the helicopter makes it cost effective

I was out in Wendover UT and they were shooting a film. While their camera helicopter pilot was waiting for his shot he was practicing his hover. In the ten minutes I watched him I don't think he moved more than a few inches from where he started from. I only know enough about flying a helicopter to know that's hard to do. He wasn't wobbling or making any sudden movements. Just awesome to see a pilot that wasn't just very good at what he was doing but exceptional. The pilot that came in "hot dogging" really good pilot.

Excellent footage. I can relate. My Dad sprayed with helicopters from back in the '60's to early '70's. I was the "chef" and driver of the mix truck. When you're in sync,,,,a guy could spray 700 or so acres a day if you didn't have to drive too far !!!

My grandparents use to grow bing cherries up in Brigham City. We used to go help pick them in July. And yeah, you could say that I ate a few while picking them! The best time, taste and experience of all time!

My family owns about 100 acres about 5 miles northeast of Lake Chelan. We go hunting, camping, fishing and stay in one of the cabins on the property several times a year. Its definitely an amazingly beautiful place to see and experience. They used to do a laser light show on on of the hills there in lake Chelan years ago. It was really cool.

The boat ride is even better then flying in, you get a chance to decompress on the way up. I like this series already! Great Job Heavy D and Crew!

My Dad used to spray cranberry bogs in the late 50's on Cape Cod. All mechanical open Bell helicopter like you would see on the show MASH. Mad respect for the skills needed to do this. My Dad stopped flying after flipping his rig upside down to avoid some new powerlines that were built while he was flying in the Korean war. This is NOT easy stuff, even though they make it look easy.

the town I grew up in was know for cherries, hasn't been major orchards in about 100 years but from mid 1800-1920s it was almost all cherries. Growing up we had a tree and man were they good.

Not sure if you mentioned it Dave. Always approach helicopter from sides. Never under rotor arch in the front. Blades can dip and take your head off. Always make sure the pilot is aware of ground personnel approach.

Really cool seeing a 206 being used somewhere outside of Law Enforcement, like a large majority are. I work on a police 206. Ours is a retired OH-58C, the military version of the B206. Basically the same exact thing just with some added safety features. Only ever seen one or two used for other things!! And boy are you right about weight being finicky, with our camera and spotlight we can BARELY cover the pilot and flight officer in the front without going over weight lol. Seems like this will be a cool series! Excited for the next episode.
