Zone 3b Manitoba, my palette is pink, purple, silver and white. It was great to see Sydney again, what a lovely space she has developed! Last year drought, this April continuous snow storms and rain have been our reality! Ah well we’ll muddle along and adapt to whatever....that’s what farmers and gardeners do. Happy spring everybody 🇨🇦

You garden is beautiful, love the purple. Mexican Feather Grass while beautiful, can be INCREDIBLY invasive. I redid my front yard during the pandemic. Because we were in "lockdown" here in California, and there was not a lot of availability of plants during that time, I used what I already had. Our backyard had a TON of rocks lining a pathway. Every two years or so, I had to dig up the rocks and set them back on top of the soil along the path. I took all those rocks and moved them to the fro,nt yard and made a rock riverbed. I also made a walkway next to our driveway so that we and our friends didn't have to shimmy between the cars to get to our front door. I used some left over decking material, so I had to dig out some of the dirt. In doing so, I ended up with a mound of soil that I shaped up and smoothed out and planted it with succulents. I also had a lot (a lot) of Agapanthus, which I divided and planted along the edges of the rock riverbed. This year, I added a variety of lavender plants, some Moon Struck petunias (I am in love with them) and some Carex along the sidewalk. There is a shady spot under our tree, and I planted ferns and hostas. I have plans to add a patio for a seating area, but in the meantime, I used a RV rug and and my adirondak chairs. Its a great space to have morning coffee, and enjoy my purple and green garden

Nice to see Sydney again, Linda. She’s a lovely young woman. Her new garden just flows so nicely into what was there. The boulders are wonderful in that space and her edging is very unusual. I would like to know more about that. My color palette is similar…purples, white, and pink with little splashes of pale yellow in the center of a lavender columbine and some violas….only soft pastel yellow, not school bus yellow. I enjoy a relaxing calm look. Kudos to Stewart for a great filming job in that nasty wind.

This was FABULOUS!! I woke up early to find that my hubby was already up and gone...having had a belt on the riding mower fall off yesterday as he started to mow at the house we are moving to, he had loaded the mower and was waiting to have it fixed! He takes care of the grass, and I take care of the flowers....we make a great team, LOL!! Oh my goodness, I LOVE what Sydney has done in the front! You girls make quite a "team" too! Now, you will have to show us the backyard again this summer! My mind is just swirling with great tips and ideas for new gardens at the family home we are moving to. Speaking of that, we are moving next Thursday! The reno has been amazing, however, we will be moving in without our kitchen cabinets, but, hey, as long as I have my coffee maker, a fridge, microwave, and some really GOOD restaurants, I'm good!! By mid-June, we should be all set!! What a GREAT way to start my day! Thanks, Linda, Sydney, and Stewart for a wonderful watch! Much love and blessings to you all!

Another silver leaved Salvia that would look great and can be used for culinary purposes is Salvia officinalis ‘Bergaarten’. It has wider leaves than the non cultivar type and forms a beautiful mound. I am so happy that you mentioned the importance of not burying the root flare of a tree with mulch or soil for that matter. It suffocates the tree and causes a slow death. I don’t know why the volcano style of tree planting/mulching got started but it is very detrimental to trees. If anyone is interested, they can look up the science and work by Dr. Alex Shigo. Less turf, more plants is my motto! Creates a more complex ecological system. Lovely garden, Sydney!!

Smart choice to have less to do in the front yard so you can concentrate on what you see more and probably are more likely to be in. I.e.the backyard. I think sydney will really appreciate the columbine. They can get quite large and make lots of babies that you can move around. Well done!!!

Eva, The nepeta is a risk. When I bought it it said nepeta “hybrid.” Which is interesting to me but early on in the season I was having a hard time finding any type of nepeta so I went with this one. I have a large variety that is existing in the beds by the house. It was there when we purchased our home so I’m not sure exactly what kind but I think it is six hills. Nepeta does so well for me that I trim it regularly so regardless of he variety it will be kept in check!

NOW I am worried since we just installed an island bed 😢,,, gulp. I would NOT do well with your winds there I have such dry skin . What would you recommend regarding natural elements like stone and boulders if your house is an aluminum sided 1950s post war colonial ? I planted that large type of lambs ear it got crazy freaky large ! so I pulled it . My garden is mostly native drought tolerant . This year I am not mixing in my annuals so I don’t have to water every place. I am keeping the water loving annuals in one location .

I’m in NC zone 8a, sandy soil. My color palette changes in different pockets of my yard. I have a section in the backyard that’s warm colors like reds, oranges and yellows. Then when you walk around the exterior garage it’s all different shades and textures of just green. The front and sides of the yard are mostly softer, cool colors like blues, purples and pinks. I’m definitely partial to cooler colors, but I think there’s always space for a bright and warm pop of color somewhere. It’s hard to blend the two pallets, but with the right natural barriers and curves it’s very possible and I love it 🙂
