Yes I agree remember your steps that we so adore your new ones look great to. Covering the brick with lattice and plants will make it softer the bricks very blunt. You have a great eye for beauty Linda you create it so well love Richi everything looks lovely

Seasonal gardening is a challenge but the rewards can be wonderful. Funny how to me a chilly 50f day in November can feel like heaven in March in my zone (5 ish) area (Ontario, Canada). The architecture of your house, the hardscape and bones you’ve added carry you through the winter nicely. Keep on trooping!

My fashion comment: Love the coat it sets off your hair. One of my sisters always makes a fashion statement by wearing pastel winter coats. Pale pink or white usually. When I go shopping I like to get out of my funk by saying to myself, "What would Betty wear?". On the plant front I am glad that you have a type of holly. Bluebirds and Robins love them in winter. In southern NJ I had both types on my hollies recently. Despite the erratic weather with these extremely cold temps the birds seem less likely to migrate any more.

Here in Mn. In the fall, we use sheets to cover lite frost. It looks a bit like a Chinese laundry but, it really help,and we found plastic of any kind,still gets damage to the plants.

Love the Appletini house! I have it saved and rewatch from time to time. Love the tone on tone lush green. I do always note his garden is mature plants. Makes a big difference.

It was a horrific cold and snow snap here in Holland Mi. We got about 24 inches. I really mulched in October and wrapped pots with coffee burlap bags.

I can't wait for Spring. Counting the days the way kids count for Christmas or vacation. Planning & reading on gardening meanwhile. It's almost as windy as here as there in west pa.🌬 I get a bit scared since we got 3 trees fall last year. One almost hit my house. I will always be thankful to the other trees for holding it back. I Always forget how really freezing it gets until it gets on single digits.🥶

It has been in single digits in Memphis with six inches of snow and no snow plows. The wind is the enemy. We are having freezing rain tomorrow.. Fun fun--the forecast is for more really cold and windy all winter. Good winter to clean up basements, organize photos and do some indoor art projects. Just praying the pipes don't break

Yay! The Appletini Door garden. I've watched it twice and I'll watch it again. I just love it. Btw, don't worry about your Magnolia Stellata. I have one and the buds are covered in little fur coats and they are insanely old plants (remember they are pollinated by beetles because they developed before bees) They must have endured some pretty cold weather in years past. We went down to -12C (-10F) this year which is very unusual. In fact I can't remember it ever happening before here (Vancouver,Canada). Mind you, my memory isn't what it was! We have a foot of snow but the inevitable rain is on it's way, which the plants need desperately. Stay warm guys!🔥

Freezing where I live. Hwy 2 in Washington. My tall pine trees around my house with thick ice. Sagging. My driveway is steep. So I haven’t gone anywhere in 2 weeks. Snow then Icy rain for the last few days with occasionally snow.

I have frost cloth over several containers and planters. I’ll wait to take it all off until we are above freezing at night. We didn’t get as cold as you did. I was shivering in sympathy as you stood in that biting wind

I'm in Moore OK and I have also been chilled to the bone! haha! THANK YOU for sharing this walk about! I also have a lot of first year plants at my home and have been so nervous about loosing them. Stay warm! It was 32 on Amelia Island at sunrise and by 8AM it was 31 but slowly climbed to mid 40s....now that is cold for FL beaches!

I live in Sweden on an island with very mild climate for being Sweden. I used to live in northern parts with -35 to -40 Celsius (-40F) and 3-4 feet of snow. Here on Gotland we have had down to -15 one night but we also got 1 feet of snow so I haven’t covered more than a few plants bc everything is under snow. I took even more snow and covered some plants completely.

I like plants that have a scent lavender roses Russian sage daffodils hyacinths. I love the idea of hardscaping the potting area. I think that will make that area a more useable space. planting those small areas would be difficult. I also think a trellis on the garage wall or walls would look nice. Thankful that so many plants made it through the cold. Our lowest so far in SC was 17.

We had a low of 12 degrees in DC today and 3-5 inches of snow. As far as I can tell most things survived and there were some real surprises. Hope the snow is insulating. We, too, had a warm spell, followed by rain and plummeting temps.

As I watch this it is 17F outside(zone5) and the wind is blowing. I only wish I could see my garden but it is under mounds of snow. The snow is covering my 2 dozen new boxwoods and I am hoping they will be insulated from the cold and wind. But inside I have 26 narcissis bulbs coming up in pots on my windowsills with another 26 in pots that will come in from the garage and enjoy the sunshine in a couple weeks. I purchased pots from the thrift store and I am going to give them away for some winter joy to my neighbors. Enjoyed your presentation.

Don't know if you like the white jasmine. It stayed green an when they bloom the garden smells wonderful . It is lovely on a trellis. Sweet olive is wonderful in the winter. The blooms also smell lovely.

Linda you are too hard on yourself. You have been telling us the railling is ordered. You can't make it happen any faster. Your backyard looks wonderful with all you have done in the short time you lived in this new home. I live in the low AZ desert and we are happy growing all of our cold season veggies. We hide in our air conditioned homes in the summer here where we get high heat days for months at a time. 117 and higher happen too often for us here!

We are frozen over here in Virginia, got down to 6 degrees early this morning, and the high was 29, brrr....12 tonight. We received about six inches of snow, so that is insulating some plants. We will warm back up into the 40's and 50's next week, can't wait. The boots you wore in the video, so very cool, can you share link if possible? Spring is coming, days are getting longer...I am winter sowing, and planning the vegetable garden.

It's interesting that you put plastic over your plants. I live in Florida and occasionally have to cover my plants. I have a couple of tubs full of old sheets. I have always been told to never use plastic!

I only use plastic around the pots… Not over the surface of the plants in front. You are right, that would cause a greenhouse effect.

Dear Linda, we have below zero temperatures here in Michigan for several days with snow. We never cover our evergreens and boxwoods and have beautiful winter interest. We had a lot of snow thunder, lighting and snow/ sleet/rain. I ordered your suggested shrubs from Amazon. Will they die? Why do you have to cover shrubs in 40 degree weather? What is the deciding factor for covering plants?
