I’ve recently had a full lab work done that I requested from hormone levels to c reactive protein to blood count, cholesterols and insulin. And much more. It’s unfortunate that us, the patients, have to do our due diligence because a lot of doctors/physicians are lazy or incompetent.

I get my own blood tests these days. My doctors just refuse to order blood work. So I go to Ulta Labs which is shockingly cheap (done via the quest network) and get the basics every year. (CBC, CMP, A1c, HS-CRP, Fasting insulin, Cpeptide, iron, even immunoglobulins) It is obvious to me that if you want to be healthy you need to do this. Doctors don't want you healthy, they want you to pay them. So they don't order the most relevant tests. I am so greatful that we can do this now and the ladies who draw my blood at quest tell me a lot of people are doing it. I can also get Urine tests.

It’s sad god doesn’t have the power to simply correct everything and make life beautiful for everybody everywhere at all times. It seems your god is really a human concept. They never said anything about it right away but eventually it comes out when they feel comfortable telling others. For myself I take a blood pressure medication. The more I research how to achieve great health, the more insignificant and useless my "board certified" allopathic MD becomes. Their tests are designed as an excuse to write (sell) a prescription, completely ignoring optimum health. Anyone interested in overall health MUST find a good Functional Medicine type who's education is 50 years ahead of their regular MD. Over the years I have solved several potentially disastrous health issues on my own because my MD had no pill for it, and was completely ignorant of how the body heals itself given a chance. After reading a forklift palate of cutting edge books, I have never once caught Dr Ekberg saying something inaccurate. His topics should be taught in every school in America.

I just went for a physical and my total cholesterol was 382 with LDL 291, HDL 79 , ratio 4.8 and triglycerides of 59. My physician of course wants to put me on a statin. The last time I was on rovustatin, I had pain in all my joints and I was at the point of experiencing pain with each step I took. I wasn’t on keto at that time and just thought it was age. I realized that the only thing that changed was the addition of the statin. I stopped it on my own and all my symptoms subsided.

My docs (general and OBGYN) refuse to do hormone, A1C and C-Peptide panel. Says not necessary as my blood sugar levels tested within healthy range last year and that they could just put me on HRT based on age and symptoms without testing. I think they are nuts and reminded them that they test vitamin D levels before prescribing vitamin D. OBGYN still couldn't see her illogical reasons for refusal because docs are trained to treat after the fact as apposed to testing with prevention in mind. She asked what would she do with the information, that she'd have to interpret for me. I told her I would need her to interpret it for me, but as a paying customer and the one in charge of my body, I wanted it done. She still refused. Time for a new doctor.

Speaking of thyroid, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism back in 2015. I wasn't seeing a doctor prior to that, and by the time I went in (because I felt like I might be dying) my TSH was 48 (and my triglycerides were over 1000!!). Since then I've been on medication, and over the years the lowest my TSH has been was 1.something, and that was always in response to a recent medication increase. Other than a med increase my TSH only kept slowly climbing, so that they had to keep periodically increasing my dosage. And no point in time in the last 7 years has my TSH went down on its own, it's only went up. I switched to eating carnivore over a year ago, after 7 months on keto and an additional several months off gluten and seed oils. My last two labs my TSH have been low. The first time was NOT in relation to a med increase, as my dose had been stable over the last year. Of course they DECREASED my dosage (as I said, this has never happened), and the next set of labs my TSH was even lower, and they decreased my dosage again. I can't say for sure yet that my hypothyroidism is reversing, but it certainly looks that way. I'm crossing my fingers that I can eventually get off of medication.

Before I found out that I had Graves disease , I went to the hospital because I had a sinus infection and my temperature was 105 and they thought I had pneumonia so they put me in isolation and I told the Dr what I thought I had the test came back no pneumonia but I have sinusitis. A few months down the road my primary doctor asked me if I had thyroid disease I said not that I know of she said the blood test look abnormal. But during that time it was so terrible I was so hot couldn't take it , I was speedy Gonzalez everything I ate took me to the bathroom I was losing weight and then when I had my check up my Dr said she's going to send me to an endocrinologist because my blood levels are off. They did all kind of tests and that's whenI found out that I had Graves disease and I'm very happy because I could have had a lot of problems down the road. So now I'm an advocate for myself I always ask my primary doctor what is my CBC etc. I'm now hypothyroid and I take a pill evey morning.

I love your videos even tho my attention span sometimes doesn't last as long as they do. I just took my 72 yo Mom for her yearly checkup and literally had to tell doctor what blood tests to do. This is after I told the doctor all the symptoms my Mom has: she has pretty much all symptoms of hypothyroid but in the last 5 months she lost so much hair that if it continues she'll be bold in a few month. Doctor didn't seem concern at all. Her blood test shows her ferritin at 26, lower than it was before bur Dr. said it's in range, and her red blood cells are enlarged. They only tested her TSH which came at 3.66 (it was closer to 5 year ago) so again, Dr. said its in range and no thyroid issues. What really bothers me is that the Dr. didn't seem interested in addressing the symptoms at all; oh hey, you'll be bold in a few months and you're always freezing but its all ok because your test shows you're "in range".

@@maryfolks9368 Thank you Mary! My Mom's blood work came back and her ferritin is low and her B12 could be better too. I've been suspecting for awhile that she might be anemic but didn't really look much into it until now. One of the side effects of it is hair loss. Low B12 could cause anemia too. Please check those if you can. Personally, I noticed that my hair doesn't fa out as much when I take zinc. I also started taking some thyroid supplements (by 1Body) and noticed more new hair growth. I put my mom on it too but it's too soon to tell if it's making any difference for her. Often times it's not even the lack of supplements but rather our body ability to absorb it. We need strong stomach acid and healthy liver, and unfortunately both of these get weaker as we age. Taking Apple Cider Vinegar can help with stomach acid (2tbs in a glass of water, or Betain Hydrochloric Acid supplements is what I take), but if you take ACV with water, make sure to use straw to drink it as it can affect your teeth. I wish you all the best and hope you find a cause and solution for your hair loss!

Hwllo Dr. Sten Ekberg. I was diagnosed with diabetes in the month of Septermber 2022. My HbA1C was 14 and my Extra fasting sugar (after 14 hrs) was 277. I was shattered and when consulted a doctor, was advised to start medication. However, I was not willing to take medicine and somewhere believed that diet should be able to help control my Sugar levels even though I did not have any idea how. It was just an intuition and then I started searching the KZbin for some guidance. And as fate would have it, to my good luck I started watching your videos and learning more about Insulin Resistance and more importantly what causes it and how can it be controlled. I have been following you ever since and I see your videos regualarly for 1 hour atleast everyday. I have made certain changes in my diet and also started moderate exercise(1 hr walking). After 2 and a half months my Fasting FLucose is around 100 and my PP is around 170. Though these are not ideal levels, with your guidance I have developed the confidence that I can reverse my insulin resistance with persistence and discipline. Your videos are the best quality in terms of content and also presentation. May God bless you and give you energy to change millions of lives all across the world. Thank you so much!!!!

Hi, fantastic show and yes some more research facts I believe this is true, not sure it works for a Keto way of living but here it is "Toasting frozen white bread reduces the effect it has on your blood sugar level The glycaemic index (GI) is a rating system for foods containing carbohydrates. It shows how quickly each food affects your blood sugar (glucose) level when that food is eaten on its own. The exciting news is that researchers have found that if you freeze white bread, then defrost and eat it, its GI is 31 per cent lower. This is because the starch molecules in bread take on a different structure as a result of freezing, defrosting and toasting it. Essentially, the process makes it more difficult for the enzymes to break the starch down into sugar. Better still, if you toast the frozen bread (instead of eating it cold once it’s defrosted) the GI reduces even more, resulting in the bread having a 39 per cent lower GI than its fresh equivalent" this is an interesting outcome but starch is sugar even though 39% is amazing. Look forward to the next show By the way there are a lot of soft cheeses out there that are laced with carbs, until I started reading the ingredients list as you suggested I thought cheese had no carbs what a turn up it totally surprised me!
@drekberg2 жыл бұрын
Thank You @charleshepplewhite7384. Yes there is a lot of talk about resistant carbs, which I think can be important for mildly insulin resistant people and for maintenance. However, it is still a high glycemic food for someone who is severely carbohydrate intolerant. GI of 75 reduced by 39% is still 46. Meat, fat and non starch vegetables are 0-20 😀

My dear Dr E this video is excellent and I AM engaged in a pushback with my PCP as he’s questioning why I want certain tests off my hbA1c blood draw. This list is a good start but I’ve tacked on more like: CMP, iodized calcium, iron saturation, B12, CRP. He insists these labs are redundant. I’m having specific issues for the last 2 years of me being on regular keto /IF and his suggestions are outrageously stupid. One of 3 examples is my fingernails are curving down like claws then they snap off with sharp pointy sides- this is completely new for me. He suggests I just cut my nails shorter- I don’t have long fingernails to start with… I know by the deep vertical ridges it’s an iron/calcium issue but I’ve been supplementing with desiccated beef, liver capsules, eating more red meat, taking vitamin C when consuming it.(about 1,000 mg 3x daily).HELP! What additional tests should I insist?
@SpamMouse2 жыл бұрын
"He insists these labs are redundant." probably because he has seen so many people in his time that he applies a generalisation to everyone and does not value individual consideration. "fingernails are curving down like claws then they snap off" indeed sufficient nutrients is the oft trotted out response, however are you getting enough absorption with high enough stomach acid / bile? HTH
@vas47392 жыл бұрын
@@SpamMouse you are most kind… that was related to another question I had that he couldn’t answer- if acid reflux was a sign of low stomach acid then what if I’m having low intrinsic factor -how does one increase intrinsic factor? I’m nearly 70 and with learning about keto I’ve been drinking ACV in my water when I consume meals. The last thing I want to do is dilute my stomach acid while eating by drinking just water. I really try to think this through but I’m no doctor AND I don’t know everything. So I do “trial & error”. I told my PCP- who I really love- that I’m not your usual geriatric patient. I know being trained by big pharma he’s allopathic so I said to him let’s talk chemistry - I LOVE chemistry. The human body is elegantly designed with processes in an electrical balance. Iron needs to be in balance with calcium. Zinc in balance with copper. But the ratios are necessary for functioning like a well oiled machine. And things are better explained/understood when details are stratified. But he stared at me like he was Mr Magoo. I don’t know… maybe I’ve outgrown him. I well know that there’s a minimum at best of at least 6 reasons someone could be deficient in iron. Two reasons is something is “eating” it before my intestines can absorb it such as cancer cells or intestinal parasites. So consuming iron makes the problem more manifest and not a corrective or intelligent strategy. Then without sufficient intrinsic factor vitamin B12 cannot be absorbed in the lower small intestine causing pernicious, anemia. The other 3 causes could be not enough heme iron or if vegetarian & consuming only elemental iron in planters is only 3% absorbable, or not enough of natural vitamin C - not ascorbic acid to assist in the absorption process. In pernicious anemia the red blood cells formed in the femur bone marrow needs iron to have “normal” sized RBC’s to fit through the vascular system’s capillaries. Otherwise they are mega sized and will not contort to fit through the vascular system. I haven’t EVEN addressed any causes for internal hemorrhaging…. I did have a Cologard test but their label says they don’t test for 4% of other cancers.
@drekberg2 жыл бұрын
Thank You @vas4739. I think you mean ionized calcium and iron saturation is simply serum iron divided by ferritin. There are almost unlimited markers to order. Blood work is great to identify a few deal breakers and metabolic conditions, but then it gets more complicated. In my office we also use Nutrition Response Testing and Microbiome tests to get to the root of the issue.😀
