These Southeastern Railway Stations in Kent SUPRISED me!

Today journey is travelling with Southeastern Trains by visiting stations in Kent, A county that I rarely visit. I was down in Kent for the Chatham Show and while I was down there I bumped into someone and was suggested to take a look at the line between Faversham and Ramsgate.... so I did that!
Travelling on the Chatham Main Line's Ramsgate Branch my journey is from Faversham to Margate calling at all the stations on route and seeing plenty of Class 375 and Class 395 Javelins but there is a catch.... or stakes, IF one train get cancelled, I have to skip that Station. So the question is.... Do I get to visit all 5 stations between Faversham and Margate?

The Class 395 Javelin are incredible trains that can reach speeds of 140mph on HS1.

My family are from Kent and specifically Faversham and Whitstable so I know both areas well. Whitstable is a really nice seaside town but the station is sadly a bit far out of the town centre. One of the first places I went trainspotting at was Whitstable so has a close place in my heart - has such an interesting history with railways too! Great video Si! PS what was that 376 doing there!?!? I know you said it was going to Ramsgate but I didn't realise they went there!

The 3rd platform at Herne Bay was originally for excursion trains and such, and whilst it hadn't been used for years it still had track until fairly recently (~5 years? less?). Conversely, Margate used to have 5, a bay platform on the far side of 4 facing Up, as well as the parcels bit on the coast side. Glad you had a nice time

Interesting stations along this stretch of line! Think alot of spotters miss out on the South East.

Great video, Simon. I have an ex-girlfriend who lives in Birchington - it’s very much the posh bit of Margate! When you do get to Ramsgate, make sure you check out the old site of Ramsgate harbour station and the tunnel just before - now known as the “Ramsgate tunnels” - the tunnel and a great tunnel network was built and used as an air raid shelter - it was so successful that fewer people died from bombings in WWII in Ramsgate than died in WWI from zeppelin bombings! You can do a guided tour around the tunnels - really recommended!

Great video Simon at 3:50 the driver of the class 375 gave u a depo whistle and at 11:06the driver of class 395014 gave u a depo whistle

all the stations featured looks like lovely stations especally Westgate on Sea & Margate & nice to see the south eastern javelin trains which im loving & wouldnt mind having a ride on one someday as i havent been on one for a few years & that line looks like a llovely line to ride brilliant vlog

Nice video Simon, nice to see Southeastern network getting some love, there are some lovely stations on its routes. I’d recommend the Maidstone East line and Medway valley as both have some very nice stations and in some areas fantastic views. Thanks again.

Great video Simon, Margate station is a wonderful building. Remember going there when I lived in Canterbury in the 90's.

The line down to Margate and Ramsgate is a great line to do and no doubt about the history of the stations speak for themselves and of course Margate is famous for the Only Fools and Horses episode the jolly boys outing and the line does see rush hour services to London Cannon Street. Great video as always Simon and hopefully see down in the Kent area again soon, much more to explore 🙂👍🏻

The line from Faversham to margate has a 30 minute service at some stations and hourly service at Westgate on sea station

It does. Any Station that only had a hourly service in the video, it was mentioned in the video.

Just around the corner from Chestfield and Swalecliffe station is a fish & chip shop that cooks the chips in a seperate frier, good for anyone who wants a meat free / vegan diet!! The class 375 trains are much nicer than the Javelin (Hitachi) trains, it's just a shame only the Javelins can operate on HS1. The Javelin trains run in a loop from St Pancras to Ebssfleet where the service diverge, one way to Ashford, Folkestone, Dover, Deal, Sandwich to Ramsgate and the other way via Strood, Medway towns, Faversham to Ramsgate. Both services complete the loop to St Pancras stopping at the stations on the other side of the loop in reverse sequence as listed. There is also a direct service from Margate via Canterbury to London on a point to point basis.
