Bangor station shows how Lift shaft towers/spires can be built/designed beautifully. And pretty easily too.

As part of an all line rover I did a circular trip from Shrewsbury to Machynlleth and then the Cambrian Line to Pwhelli, didn't want to go back on myself so took a bus to Caernarfon and then Bangor to go back to Shrewsbury via the North Wales line and Chester. It took most of the day but loved every moment of it, very pretty coast and countryside, I feel greatful that we have such great scenery in Britain, would like to go back and visit some of the stations and areas as you have done.

Being Irish myself, I’m so familiar with the beautiful North Wales line in both daytime and overnight, both summer and winter, on SailRail from Manchester via Holyhead to Dublin when visiting my family in Ireland, having lived 22 years in Manchester - in winter and at night, this line takes on an almost magical quality, as one can almost feel the history, even before you reach Holyhead - and between Chester and Holyhead, you can pick up Irish commerical radio stations such as RTÉ on MW (Medium Wave) 🇮🇪☘️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿❤️

This inspired me to do the opposite of what you did and walk from Bangor to Llanfairfechan and then get on the train! Very nice walk down the coastal path and a lot more distant from the noisy A55! Definitely recommend the walk to anyone in the area looking for a challenge :)

1:49 I recall that when I first saw the Welsh red and green colours, being Irish, I’d mistaken them for the Mayo County GAA Gaelic football colours, as my home County in Ireland is Meath - that said, it always amazes me that via the railway in Rural North Wales, aside from being connected to big cities like Manchester and London, via the Port of Holyhead it is also connected to the big city of Dublin and so when I go home to Ireland, I pass through 3 countries to do so, England, Wales and Ireland 🇮🇪☘️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿❤️

5:38 Culturally, the Welsh people are closest to us Irish people and there is so much history in North Wales in particular - the Holyhead to Dublin ferry route is the oldest trading route across the Irish Sea, dating back to Roman times and evidence exists that Saint Patrick was a Welshman of Roman descent - in the aftermath of the Easter Rising of 1916, many of the Irish rebels were deported to internment camps in Wales ❤❤❤

The A55 from Llandudno to Holyhead is also one of my favourite roads, along with the A5 all the way from Chirk. Your Welsh pronunciation is good in places, but maybe you should try learning a bit of the wonderful language of this wonderful country! Each letter always has the same sound, so it's a lot easier than English!

A lot of older rail enthusiasts that I know reckon that the North Wales Coast Line was ruined by the upgrading of the A55. But as you say, the original route must have been a nightmare before it was built. Of course, if only we could get them out of their cars and onto trains!

I also love Wales (well apart from the person who yelled at me in Welsh, I had the audacity to look like someone else from behind) though the last time we were there the weather was appalling and had to get home via Shrewsbury. It’s always fun having to go further south to get to the North West. Stupid short notice cancelling of rail strikes.

The A55 is a godsend for us living here. The traffic chaos before it opened was bonkers. It can still be bad today even with the dual carriageway. However you’re quite correct it does absolutely ruin the mood along the coastline but alas it’s a necessary evil! And yes the exit onto the A55 at Penmaenmawr is a bitch! Stunning walk over though. Never done it. A route underneath would be amazing so you could see the railway and the viaduct. Llanfairfechan is a lovely place! The cafe is great and the park and promenade is a great place to take kids to. And your pronunciation is pretty good to be fair! (Not sure if you’ve already been but if you are able to make it you ought to visit Cegin Viaduct - it’s a walk from Bangor but wowzers it’s a sight to see!)
