Saw something about this in my Instagram Discover section but I refuse to go anywhere near that heaping pile of garbage that is TikTok and wouldn’t want to give these users (DEFFS NOT FANS) the views. I knew this would be BS from the first inclination of what this rumour was about, however this is DEFINITELY something that could send Taylor underground again and I will be hunting these absolute scum down if that’s what they have done. The thing here is that Taylor has always been talking while moving her hands and a lot of people actually have this habit. So a lot to Swifties noticed it and they started calling Joe an abuser. The interview is filled with comments about that time stamp and that Joe abuses Taylor, she needs help, they were showing some previous scars on her hand saying that Joe was the one who did it on Twitter and flodding Twitter with these Joe abusing Taylor myth. This was debunked when Taylor Nation (Taylor’s official Social Management) liked a Twitter post calling out this rumor and saying that it’s fake and a wrong accuse has been out of Joe.

As someone who has dealt with domestic abuse in my personal life, I don’t think these people understand the severity of the situation they just caused. Domestic abuse is not at all something you use to get clicks. I first saw it on twitter from a guy who absolutely was not a swiftie, he didn’t follow taylor or taylornation or any fan account, he also deleted the tweet after a few hours. Than a brazilian tiktoker (I’m from brazil) with like 5M followers, also not a fan of hers, posted calling it a theory so we reported it and basically bagged her to take it down so she did. This is crazy to me, because I do think it did not start from the fan base, and it just blew up fast. It's incredibly frustrating because the hand signal was created WITH guidelines for what to do when you see it, which primarily include reaching out discretely to the person without mentioning abuse or violence or all, or asking them yes or no questions so they can tell you they need help directly if an abuser can only hear their end of the conversation. This whole thing is ridiculous--Taylor is surrounded by tons of people who work for her and would be able to help her if she needed it--but it also creates the risk that if someone does this hand signal and actually needs help, people will respond by publicizing the situation and putting them at more risk of harm.

Also, the symbol was invented because people are trapped at home with their abusers during COVID. That's not the case for Taylor. If you're someone who's worried about her, think about it this way: Taylor filmed the Long Pond Sessions and Joe wasn't there--she could have asked Jack or Aaron for help if she needed it. She's been on set for two different music videos surrounded by people she could have asked for help. I'm sure she's been COVID-safe, but I can't imagine that she hasn't had any in person meetings with Tree or other members of her team or seen her family members in person since March. If she actually needed help, she would have taken any one of those opportunities to let someone know, and they would have responded by actually helping her instead of making Tik Toks about the situation. This hand signal is for people to use as a last resort when their abusers have made them completely isolated, and these "theories" are making a mocker of it.

Videos and comments like this show ignorance to the complexities of domestic abuse. We never know when or how someone might need help or how they might try to ask for assistance. You can’t assume. Thank God you are addressing it because the amount of DMs I've got from people who are not even Taylor Swift fans or followers, and are questioning the fact that she's getting abused. It's sickening to even think that people are believing and spreading false rumours when she's in a happy and healthy relationship and position in her life. Seeing Taylor in her two new videos, on Long Pond sessions and interviews all made me think wow, this is the most genuinely happy & comfortable Taylor has been ever. It's really pathetic that people would make up these rumors that not only hurt our chances of seeing interviews from Taylor but also could possibly devastate Taylor and Joe's relationship. This 'trend' on TikTok is really uncalled for. Even my friends (who aren't fans of Taylor) sent me clips of the rumour and asked me if Taylor was okay. I had to reassure them and let them know that it is a baseless rumour (and even sent a screenshot of Tree Paine's liked tweet to them). I really don't understand what's going on in the mind of these people, they disgust me. Sometimes, I'm glad that I'm not on TikTok, really.
