Calling yourself a "swinger" when you're really just looking for a loophole around cheating is totally unhealthy. The cheater doesn't love either of you, folks.
@spoof2803 Жыл бұрын
Definately 100% agree Though if everyone involved is fully consenting, aware and comfortable with the agreement it can be okay! BUT if it takes a long time to convince someone and you manipulate someone into agreeing then that is just , in fact, unhealthy. Relationships like this can be messy, and you need to understand how it can affect how you and your partner(s) see eachother. Always be sure that EVERYONE is happy with the arrangement, and give them an outlet to talk if they are not

As a representative of the non-monogamous community I just want to make it clear that we don't wanna claim these people. If your partner isn't comfortable with what you're doing that's NOT polyamory/swinging/non-monogamy... that's just cheating. Those are very different things. Non-monogamy is entirely built on communication and respecting each others boundaries
@Kristiekins22 жыл бұрын
I have unfortunately seen too many poly people manipulate their partners into agreeing to it, but I know there are LOADS of people in the poly community that are super great to their partners and their partners are super on board. It's too bad people like this make it look weird to everyone.
@sarcodonblue2876 Жыл бұрын
It seems when I have seen poly couples in the past that someone is always unhappy. It attracts hyper sexaul people and those who don't like commitment. It is going to attract narcissistic types of people.
@fizz4442 Жыл бұрын
THIS. I'm poly and my partner is questioning but we both make sure to communicate and respect each others set boundaries. I don't go and try to get together with other people behind their back or bring someone else into the relationship. It's not hard at all to respect that, and It makes me so upset that cheaters will turn and go "well I'm poly actually" to justify their cheating. Like, it's really not hard to respect boundaries. . . Plus, It's just further reinforcing the negative stereotypes, really. Reminds me of when I was dating somebody four years back who had a record of cheating and using that excuse. They even called partners of theirs cruel names if they got upset over it. People like them are just cruel to be around tbh.

@l.s.d.5863 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it's that completely black and white. People can be uncomfortable but still open to try for various reasons. When I got together with my ex eight years ago, I really didn't want a monogamous relationship. I told him that, we argued about it, eventually I felt pressured into giving in, and agreed to it. I stayed faithful for years. It was hard. During that time, he cheated on me. More than once, with more than one person. Frankly, I should have just left. But I was younger and dumber then, and we were both otherwise really passionate about eachother and wanted things to work out. So eventually, I felt I had to lay down the law. Since he obviously couldn't respect his own demand for a monogamous relationship, we'd have an open one. That or nothing. I'd hoped that he would become more comfortable eventually, after he'd had time to see that sex with other people wouldn't make me any less devoted to him. Sadly, jealousy and insecurity are not beholden to reality. This went on for about two years. He was never comfortable with it. Eventually it, among other things, broke us up. You could defiitely say I coerced my partner into a poly relationship. But I wouldn't call myself a cheater. I never lied to him, never did anything behind his back or without his express consent. We tried it his way for five years. We tried it my way for two. Neither worked. I think it's tempting for people to see monogamous desires as more valid than poly desires because that's the standard of normalcy that society sets. Nobody ever talks about it being unfair to pressure a poly person into a monogamous relationship, even though I'm sure that happens much more than the reverse. Both desires are fair, both discomforts are fair, sometimes people's relationship needs just don't mesh and there's no way to go about it where someone isn't uncomfortable. I can't really fault people for trying anyways, if they feel strongly for eachother. Obviously there's a point at which they need to recognize that it's not going to work, and me and my ex's should have been a lot sooner, but making sacrifices and attempting compromise is part of relationships. Just sayin'. Context.

as a person who's poly and would be fine with swinging... if you need to coerce your partner into those kinds of relationships, they don't want to do it. it's manipulative and awful to do. if you can't respect your partner's boundaries you aren't their partner. sure maybe that person loves you enough to go through the pain and discomfort of you sleeping and flirting with other's instead of potentially loosing you, but if you love them why would you want to put them through that. also let's not turn the constant breaking of trust and hurting your spouse into a "haha i'm so quirky" thing. either get it together, or get a divorce. stop being a self centred ass. i'm surprised how he hasn't divorced her, though she's clearly for whatever reason got a hold of him. people like these put a bad name on open and poly relationships, we're not all like that

i used to be in a polyamorous relationship, there was no jealousy because we would always tell each other how we felt or if we were flirting with someone else etc. like that's the whole point of a poly/open relationship, you're supposed to communicate with your partner(s) and that includes respecting boundaries. when i first started dating my current boyfriend (who's monogamous), i asked him about an open relationship and he told me he wasn't comfortable with that. i never brought up the subject again because, as i told him, i knew even before dating him that we'd probably be monogamous and i was okay with that. he told me what his boundaries were and i respected them. open relationships definitely should NOT be something you force onto someone else. if the person doesn't want it, accept it and go look elsewhere. these people are toxic af and it's disgusting.
@spongecakes19862 ай бұрын
I'm hypothetically poly (I say hypothetically because I haven't had an opportunity to test that theory) and I brought this up to my last partner. She said she wasn't comfortable with that, and I assured her that even though I was poly, dating just her was enough for me. Unfortunately, months later we had a miscommunication where I thought she changed her mind and I brought it up again, which really upset her (understandably so). I felt so incredibly guilty, and still do when I think about it. We broke up less than two months later, mainly due to general issues with communicating our feelings with each other when something was wrong. I can't imagine how someone would think it's okay to try to force someone into a non-monogamous relationship that they never wanted. What kind of partner are you if you can't respect your partner's boundaries? Not even partner- what kind of PERSON are you?

You're not wrong. Swinging is when both people in the relationship consent to it, and if one person doesn't it is being unloyal. I have a lot of friends who are swingers, I don't mind it. They do what they do safely and consensually.

My experience is that in an open relationship it depends on the boundaries set within the couple whether it's okay to flirt with others in front of each other or not, but it's definitely always important to communicate in an open and healthy way about jealousy, instead of...whatever that was
@CHLOCHLOLP Жыл бұрын
I feel like if you cant do it infront of ur partner then like whats the point? To me that says there is still some jealousy or discomfort about having ur prtner be with someone else. Im not poly but ive known a few poly couples, they were all open and agreeing about it but some of them definitley were sweeping a lot of discomfort and feelings under the rug by doing stuff like that.

I am polyamorous (my fiancé is too) in a open relationship and we have discussed and are still discussing about boundaries to not hurt or make the other uncomfortable about anything within our relationship. It's something that is so important for us as we just want to be living happily the way we feel and we're good with that. Funnily enough I've never been really with other people and they didn't either since we started being together. We just didn't feel like it that's it. Our relationship is fulfilling as is it's just that we happen to be polyamorous. We don't feel like seeing someone else is necessarily "filling a void" or keeping ourselves happy which is, to me, such a red flag (like if you feel your relationship isn't fulfilling open or not it seems wrong to me) but mostly we see as the ability to share love or affection (physical or not) maybe. Also people who cheats aren't the people who would be good in that type of relationship... they use the excuse but they are just shitty people who cheats... It feels very wrong to me how they treat relationships and boundaries. Seems very unhealthy.

I'm sorry if the grammar or structure is weird I'm not an native English speaker and I'm tired 😓 Just wanted to share my opinion and experience as someone who lives in an open relationship.
@froggobaggins33282 жыл бұрын
I feel like many people who claim themselves as "polyamorous" and see other people are often just super weak-minded that want to cheat/ get tired of their partner and find a way to make their problem some sort of solution. It's something pretty common in the poly couple that have 1 "true" poly partner and the other just accept their partner demand for love while the other one ( i'll call them the cheater one because in that case it is) have fun with other people while keeping the main partner as a way to always get somewhere to land if they find nothing interesting anymore in the new partners they get I'm tired of labels, especially the one who get overused and miss-used. You get the same problem with people who claim to be Bisexual just for the sake of it but only really date 1 gender. I find it kinda harmful for the real poly ( and bi there), especially when those fake labelled people tarnished the flag they wave
@alicehellsing55052 жыл бұрын
@@froggobaggins3328 sorry to nitpick here but being bi doesn't come with a mandatory has to have dated women and men before. For some people it could have not worked out with one of the genders and that's why they only dated one gender, this doesn't invalidate them but I feel like often bi people get shit for never having dated a specific gender.
@froggobaggins33282 жыл бұрын
@@alicehellsing5505 Not dating because you didn't have the chance to is okay, you don't chose who you are attracted to. But specifically avoiding one gender because one of them did some harm to you at some point or think they will do harm to you is problematic. at this point you need to work on that fear/ hate or don't claim to be bi if you only go toward one specific gender. It's like saying you like all kind of women but avoid everything but one type of woman
