I am an Uyghur, but my main languages are English, French, and Russian (I was born in Kazakhstan, raised in Canada, and reside in Antalya). Although I can understand some dialects of Uyghur, I can speak very little. I'm hoping to get a little more free time to learn Uyghur. I still have relatives who are native speakers.

@@turkchap :( If God wills, they shall be liberated, and all of us from sin. 🙏
Also fear for the fate of people in so called Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous where all non Chinese languages got eviction notice in 2016.

Sadly the Uyghurs are facing a horrible genocide there :(

Major Turkic nations (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkiye) should build language-villages for those vulnerable Turkic languages in their countries and make the youth of their nation learn and speak them.

Such a good idea! These languages should be preserved since they the remnants of cultural diversity and richness of Turkic languages.

On the other hand: who cares? I mean it’s sad and all, but I just don’t understand what those languages are contributing to society. It’s not like people are getting hurt or die because they don’t speak their ethnic language anymore.

Every disappearing language takes a whole human culture with it. Tales, idioms, expressions, lifestyle and the entire culture of a language should be regarded a value of humanity as a whole. That’s why anthropologists record disappearing hunter-gatherer languages. Even if we cannot prevent their extinction, we can preserve their cultural and linguistic heritage in academic fields. So even if there is no physical persecution, a disappearing language is something to care about in my opinion.

The Uyghurs would like to have a conversion with you about that but unfortunately they're busy being assimilated in concentration camps.

The Crimean Urum language of Turkic Orthodoxes in Ukraine is also dying; like Karait, it's similar to Crimean Tatar language. But the Caucasian Urum language of Turkic Orthodoxes in Georgia, Greece and Russia is still used, it is a mix of Azerbaijani and Turkey Turkic dialects.

A nice video, it’s a pity you didn’t mention Polish Karaims though, although in 2021 only 16 people spoke it at home. They’re the smallest recognized minority group in Poland and their history here is interesting as well, many of them lived what used to be Poland but is in modern day Belarus, Lithuania, and they moved to Poland, and are scattered in places like Warsaw, Wrocław (pretty much west, they had even the only prayer home in post-war Poland there until 1989)

well idk if it was Belarus, but I mean generally the lands east of modern Poland

Also a few years ago Polish singer Karolina Cicha made an album in Karaim language, she’s not Karaim afaik but still, that’s so cool, I like these songs
