For Canadian wine lovers, John Szabo is a natioanl treasure. What he and his colleagues (David Lawrason, Michael Godel, Sara d'Amato) have done for the Canadian wine industry has been remarkable, especially the Canadian Wine awards. The winealign website has been incredibly useful to members given that we are tied to the monoploy system in Ontario. Thankfully, winealign provides a service of mixed wine cases which are quite eye-opening. Great show; so educational!

I hope you find the high quality wines of Etna soon! They are incredible. The Contrada San Lorenzo by Girolamo Russo is elegant and beautiful. The Magma by Frank Cornelissen is my favorite, 100 year old vines, pre-phylloxera, ungrafted, tannic and COMPLEX (Though it is expensive it lives up to the price, I enjoy it on the caliber of Grand Cru Burgundy) Carricante is whatever lol I agree with you. However, some of the wines on Etna are truly beautiful, I hope you find some. Palmento Costanzo makes an incredibly dark fruited Santo Spirito for around $75 USA. Lots of great wines and history on Etna. Please make a video on their wines! I would love it! Thanks for all the fun wine content, keep living your best life Matt. I appreciate you!

I had MANY of them and have visited those properties and Etna several times. I like the wines but they are getting aggressive on Contrada prices

This was a fascinating deep dive into all things related to wine and the wine industry. Like so many in the industry the humility and genuineness from John Szabo is evident and gives even more credence to what he says. I particularly enjoyed his views about trusting our taste and palates, while finding publications or critics that are similar to our so that we can grow as tasters and critics. Naturally I enjoyed the Hungary angle to this video, its not every day you hear someone talking about Keknyelu from Badascony! Also happy to hear that Volcanic Wines will be released in paperback and e-format. Great video thanks for sharing it with us, cheers!

Wow. The first video I ever watched on this channel was you interviewing Szabo while I was looking into his book on wines from volcanic soils. Glad that search brought me to your channel. And very glad that he’s returned as a guest once again! Haven’t watched the full hour yet, but I absolutely will be doing so! Also, Wine Align, please bring back “So You Think You Know Wine”!

Yeahh Santorini is next level, spent hundreds of euros on assyrtiko, been there, the word 'concentration' gets an absolute new meaning when you taste a wine from the island. Superior! And certainly Etna is close up there, with Montalto, Nave, Santo Spirito, Calderara... Omg volcanic wines, what an amazing topic!
