For others to learn from my mistakes.......In my impatience, I went to my local auto parts store and tried several 16" wipers that their parts departments said would fit, and finally gave up and bought the OEM style from a vintage Corvette supplier. They have to be very "low profile" to not interfere with the door.

Yes. I ordered Trico wiper blades from Amazon for my 81 Corvette and they operate perfectly. Most other off-the-shelf blades will hit the hood’s edge which can damage the paint and or fiberglass. GM used Trico wiper arms and blades on many of their vehicles. 😊👍🏻 amzn.to/44zqld7

Took a long time to find your video. They always show the modern ones. I always forget this trick, or it doesn't work so I get frustrated. Thanks for the perfect camera angle. (86 Firebird) These were ubiquitous in my day, now they are "old school". sigh

I fought with mine until a guy on the NCRS forums taught me the same method of removing the blades by pushing down the spring…it was so simple, well, you know how I felt afterwards…

Yes, I know EXACTLY how you felt. lol 😆 I thought there had to be a better way than jamming a screwdriver between the blade and arm and was very happy I discovered how the spring retracted once pushed. It definitely was an "AHA!" moment. Thank you for watching! 🙂👍

Great tip... I'm getting ready to replace my 71's wiper blades for the first time and this will really help. I've never used the wiper motor since I purchased my Vette 18 months ago, but I guess I have no choice to get to the blades. Thye are hidden under the vacuum operated door. Bad design by those Chevy engineers.

Old wiper blades can do a lot of damage if you need to use them and they fall apart. We’ve all seen windshields scratched to the point of being a hazard, and they look horrible. The vacuum system was problematic since day one, I guess. Glad to hear you found the video helpful. 😊👍🏻

@@76vette your correct about it scratching the windshield...that's why I never tested the wipers when I was purchasing the car. I'll wrap some socks round the wiper arms to prevent scratching and spray the windshield with silicone.

I bought them at AutoZone. Had to bring the original blades to ensure they were the same height. Otherwise they will hit the hood as they come up. 😊👍🏻
