I remember seeing Jennifer Batten playing with Michael Jackson when he first went solo. Then I was blessed to meet her in person at a 3 day convention here in Las Vegas that my brother did every year on MJ's birthday. Such a great lady and thank you Jennifer for signing my MJ pictures ❤️🐸❣️

I love Jennifer so much. She's such an underrated guitarist. I don't think she's one of the best "female" guitar players, she is one of the best guitar players. period

Melanie, I saw her with Andy Timmons and Uli Jon Roth, the monster Uli Jon Roth that every guitarist praises and worships, Andy Timmons is not too far away from that either, and Jennifer stole the show from them, I was there for Timmons and Roth and Jennifer stole the show. she came before both of them and should have came after both of them.

I wonder why everybody always calls someone "the best". What an addiction to judging and ranking, graving for superlatives. Just enjoy the great music. If someone is the best, the others would somehow be the "losers".

Hey Dom. Great interview as always. Please pass this on to Jennifer. I was in my early 20's in Sydney Australia. Jen was touring with MJ. I saw her do a guitar clinic at a store in Sydney and approached her after requesting a private lesson on her 2 handed tapping style. She agreed and I went to her Hotel the next day, $50 in hand, and got my private lesson ! Cool Lady, Great Player, and a moment in my career I'll never forget. Thanks JB......Dave Dwyer 😬

I had the pleasure of working with her in the 90s. I remember the first time seeing her on the video security cam at studio entrance and thinking… yep that’s her. Very talented and super nice to work with.

She was my teacher in san diego. Her sight reading was unbelievable. She was teaching me Be bop. She had a locking tremelo bar put on her strat. She showed it to me and was upset about the size holes the put in her neck for the locking Nut. she was transcribing music into A book for peter Sprague. She is also a great Caligraphist Her charts are clean and accurate. She was a great teacher lots of fun.

You sound familiar with that period in San Diego. I recall playing a concert in Balboa Part at one point, as I recall there were 11 bands, this went for several hours during the afternoon and wrapped up right about sunset. The band I was in was the most popular up in North County so we were second-to-last to play and then there was a rock band that closed the show....I wonder if that was her band, this would have been 1978. This was unusual because we were a country honky-tonk band (Tall Cotton) but popular, we were actually the first electric band to play at the Belly Up Tavern and really helped get that place popular, playing there 2-3 days at a time about monthly and bringing in country dancers. I moved away in 1979 and later had a Swing Dance, Jazz, R&B Band for 10 years up in Oregon. In any event it was a cool time to be in San Diego and the music scene.....Jose Murphy's, Dick's at the Beach and many people would sit in with each other's bands. The rock band I sat in with was called "The Brattz" (sp). I don't recall meeting her though.

I was at a workshop for Washburn held by Jennifer in Durban South Africa. Needless to say, I was awestruck. She allowed questions and a guy asked her if she could play the Beat It solo. Then he asked her to play it. She did it perfectly. Then she said that she had to do that solo in the M J show while running across the stage- wearing a 3-foot high hat!

I first heard Jennifer play when I was a student at Musicians' Institute in '84. One thing is for sure, the lady has done her home work. Very impressive player. I remember being stoked when I heard she got the Michael Jackson gig. I thought "Too cool, she gives it all she has and it paid off big time. Good for her." Now I find out (over thirty years later) she played "Giant Steps" as part of the audition. ROFL - Go girl!

Excellent guitarist. Seen her at a clinic years ago. Aside from being a good musician seems centered as a person too. High profile Jackson gig aside, Jeff Beck loves her and most guitarists love Jeff Beck. That speaks volumes! She's right about TRANSCRIBE too! LOL I love it.
