Very good tutorial, I like the point that you reminded about the protective glasses. As most of the time we overlook this most important factor which can really be very dangerous and have permanent damage with our eyesight. I will surely remember at all times NOW to use the safety glasses, especially with Chinese needles which break ever so frequently. Wishing you all the very best. Thank you so much for sharing.

I just found your channel and I LOVE your content! I am learning so much. Actually, when I first started sewing I would alter my clothes, and later I got into sewing from patterns, but lately I have been getting into altering my clothes again. I have lost 20 pounds so I have to alter some things. Your channel so far has taught me about altering jeans, which is something I think I have to do at this point, and then of course got lost in other videos. This one about sequins is so fascinating. New sub!

Also, how,do you approach the lining to keep,it exactly in line with the revised bottom hem of the sequenced portion?
@sewshowwithshae
@sewshowwithshae Жыл бұрын
In regard to almost any lining, I will just remove the same amount that I removed off of the outer, this is making the assumption that the proportions are correct from the outset, and though that may not always be the case, it is the easiest way to go.

Great video! So well explained! Do you have a video on how to strategically remove sequins? I have a sequinned dress that literally cuts the inside of my upper arm (I've tried talcum powder and putting various things on my arms as recommended by others, none of which have made any difference other than making a mess) the other recommendation I get is to take it to a seamstress, but there is no one near me willing to take on this task - so any advice would be gratefully received!

Hi! Question, I’m hemming my daughters formal dress, it’s entirely covered with beads and sequins. Should i follow the Same method? It has a bigger train then this, and the reason we’re hemming is really to gather some sequins /beads to fill in some decent sized spots that are missing from a previous wear. (A bracelet snagged them off) So we’re going then be harvesting unbroken sequins to sew on the gown.
@sewshowwithshae
@sewshowwithshae Жыл бұрын
Great question, and no, the beading is very different from sequins so you are not gonna want to use the same procedure here. I have been meaning to do a beaded hem video but we don’t get them in the shop very often so next opportunity I get I will put up a new tutorial on that up! In short; the beads need to be crushed, and then the threads need to be secured. Cutting them can be risky, depending on how they are attached to the garment.

With sequined twitchy material I always sew first trim later. If it’s a bridal gown I don’t cut off everything until she tries it on Just being careful because sequined material has jumped on me before

How come you don't use a pressing cloth for ironing this?
@sewshowwithshae

😬 I’ve never been a pressing cloth user, I don’t find it necessary (however I know this is not a popular opinion! But I’ve been doing it this way the last 2 decades and it’s gone pretty well!)

My fear with cutting sequin material is I’m scared it’s like beaded material…aren’t the sequins kind of all sewn with same thread, and if you cut, more will fall off? Thank you in advance for answering. ❤
@sewshowwithshae
@sewshowwithshae 10 ай бұрын
This is a great question; sometimes they are chain stitch together, but sometimes they are not. And usually you can pick at the edge to find out what kind they are. The trick that I will use when the sequins are chain stitched together is I will unravel the amount that takes me up to the new hemline, and then stop the thread from unraveling by putting a tiny dab of liquid superglue. Then I’ll come back and just cut the fabric as usual! This is a pretty tedious process, but I have found success with it!
